All the staff without exception were very helpful and very pleasant Couldn’t fault them.

Bathroom not great with cracked wash hand basin and no room to swing a cat but plenty of hot water and lovely soft towels No bedside table on one side of the bed was a bit inconvenient but managed to work something out by utilising the suitcase rack !! AC very noisy but much needed Breakfast not particularly to our taste but starters were ok Granola nearly broke my teeth though Hadn’t realised breakfast booking times were first come first served so had a slight problem one day but was sorted as a “ to go “ by your very helpful receptionist

Location allows for a nice walk to almost everything in town. Breakfast is excellent with many choices, not typically available at B&B's. Our room was enormous and well laid out. Bed and chairs in the room were comfortable. The breakfast sunroom is great and if it had not been so hot, we would have loved to have breakfast out in the courtyard. The staff is amazing, simply delightful and attentive. This is a real value treasure in Charleston, where cost of hotels can be extraordinary.

Maintenance of such a large and vintage facility is a challenge. Some refurbishment is needed on walls/ceilings, tiling, woodwork and some of the antique furniture. Additional living room chairs would add to the conversational capability for guests to relax and mingle.

We have never stayed at an Inn or Bed and Breakfast place. We LOVED IT!! Felt like home! Historic building with all the "character". We arrived after hours and the after hour packet was there just as promised and we were able to easily access the building. The lights were even on in our room when we arrived. Our room was clean, cute and comfortable. The bed was fabulous. The staff could not have been nicer and always willing to help - especially Brenda and Ms. B! Our breakfast every day was yummy and we were ready to see the sites! Fresh brewed coffee in the morning! We looked forward to coming back after our busy days and enjoying the "snack" left in the entry hall for guests. Parking was right next to the building. If we ever make it back to Charleston, we will be staying at the Barksdale! Thank you!

Having to leave and go home and go back to work! LOL

Super helpful and friendly staff. Free water and snacks all day were key with the heat and very much appreciated. While we didn’t partake in the breakfast it was a great option to have. The room was clean and welcoming. The shower pressure was good. All in all the room was quiet. Loved the 24/7 locked entry. Felt very safe.

The bed was hard and uncomfortable. It also felt very rickety. The bench at the foot of the bed kept coming apart too. There was also barely any water pressure from the sink. Lack of counter space in the bathroom was an issue though. We had to utilize nearly every surface in the bedroom to store all our toiletries etc. The mornings were a bit loud with the breakfast crowd. Biggest pet peeve was the lack of curtains on the windows. My friend had a very hard time sleeping because it was so bright.

We really enjoyed our stay at Barksdale House! Our room was comfortable and decorated nicely. The breakfast was wonderful...many options to choose from and very tasty! Brenda was exceptional! She always had a smile and made you feel very welcome...she is a gem!!

There was a stain on the mattress cover...looked like faded bloody finger marks. And, the ceiling access to the attic, which was in the bathroom, looked like it was going to fall down and had a light glowing from it at night. Both things added to the feeling that this house may be haunted. Kind of exciting, but also a bit on the scary side :)

Amazing 200 plus year old house converted to an inn. Lovely antique touches throughout, yet with all the modern conveniences. Amazing choices for breakfast always served with a smile. Afternoon tea with sandwiches and goodies and a glass of wine! Location couldn't be better for touring around in the historic area of Charleston.

It is a pet friendly place and unfortunately one of the rooms had a dog that the pet's owners left unattended in their room and it barked nonstop for half an hour. Of course this was after hours so had to contact the after hours number to report. The next morning the staff said they had a discussion with the guests and we never heard the dog again. Not really an issue of the inn, more inconsiderate pet owners but still affects your stay.

The staff in this place can't be beat! They are friendly, professional, and very accommodating. The location is walking distance to shopping, the battery, the ferry terminal to Fort Sumter, the visitors center, close to the free bus stops, and anything else you might like to do in Charleston. The breakfast ordered from a menu is delicious and just the thing to start you off for a day of sightseeing. You have your own table for those of you that don't like communal seating.

Like any old building, there are always cosmetic repairs waiting for attention. But nothing that would impact your stay.

The staff here are very friendly. The space has a lovely Southern charm. It is centrally located on a quiet block. We walked everywhere from here. Breakfast is served every morning, and it is delicious. They always have snacks and bottles of water. We stayed in room 10 on the top floor, which I think was best to avoid any potential ground floor noises or walking noises from the ceiling.

Honestly, we didn't encounter anything we didn't like about this location. This was not a problem for us, but they only had one key. Because this is an old house, the flooring may be noisy at night, but it wasn't a problem for us because we stayed on the third floor.

Breakfast was wonderful and the location perfect since we could walk to our conference at Gaillard Auditorium. We loved that we were located in the beautiful historic district. Our room with King size bed was comfortable and quiet. It was great having a fridge and bar area. And there were delicious snacks always provided.

This beautiful old inn does have a bit of dampness but that is to be expected since the area sits on a Marsh. The bottom rooms may experience this issue more than upper rooms. But it still a wonderful place.

Location was excellent to historic district and more. Having secure parking for a nominal fee was a bonus. We stayed in room #4 and it was charming. Breakfast as all other reviewers mentioned was AWESOME. Loved having breakfast in the sunny/comfortable porch and later in the day relaxing in the parlor. All attributed to charm of this inn. Homemade snacks and cold/hot drinks daily were appreciated additions.

Our room had dirty vents in bathroom that could have easily been cleaned. Sink drain needed maintenance and water drained VERY slowly causing it to be almost inoperable. It required a fix below & behind the sink bowl. I fixed it myself as it was late and no one was present to call.
