Phillip and Judy were wonderful hosts. They were communicative and extremely kind. The house is in a fabulous location where everything you need is within a 20 minute walk. The 1br, 1 ba house was all the space we needed, and it was just the cutest layout! The staircase is so cute, and it is is a little difficult to navigate as it's quite small, but there's a larger staircase outside the house that has more room to move up and down. Checking in and out was a breeze, and parking is free; you just have to be willing to communicate with Phillip and Judy and the guests staying in the other on-site location to make sure no one is blocking anyone in. I really didn't mind this as the other guests were also lovely. I much prefer this to a hotel. The space is genuinely perfect for 2 people traveling in Charleston, and if I go again and 86 Church is available, I'll stay here again!

The moving space in the 1br, 1ba is a bit small, especially for a bigger gal and guy like my friend and I, but it didn't detract from the experience at all! Again, the parking isn't necessarily quick and easy since it requires communication, but it's genuinely not even close to being a problem; it's on-site and free. There honestly wasn't anything I didn't like about staying here. No place is 100% perfect, but this was exactly what I was looking for and would stay again.

We were blown away. The location surpassed our expectations and the hosts were most accommodating and helpful. They patiently answered all our questions during the booking process and gave us helpful tips for our visit. There were wonderful restaurants and shops in walking distance, and having a parking spot took was so convenient. The house was everything we were hoping for. It made us feel at home and on vacation at the same time. We are planning to be back soon.

For our first time in Charleston, we were entranced by the authenticity of this home built in the 1700s. it was literally steps from everything; we couldn’t have asked for a better location. our hosts Philip and Judy Middleton were gentile and gracious and trace their roots back to an original signer of the Declaration of Independence. the two story inn was small, cozy, and delightful with a courtyard outside the door.

it’s not for everybody. the narrow spiral staircase would be hard for mobility challenged. since it is from the 1700s, expect a window unit AC and old pipes. However, those who are more intrigued by charm and authenticity rather than elegant modern quarters will recognize this as a find

I would highly recommend this place! First off, this is in a wonderful location right in the heart of the French quarter! It was such a charming loft and the coffee and snacks they provided were very appreciated. The hosts are so hospitable and they are available via text if you need anything. The bed was VERY comfortable and the extra towels provided was a nice touch. Again, I highly recommend!!!

Since there aren’t any corner stores that are really close, it would’ve been helpful to have a few extra water bottles in the fridge or a Brita water filter. I would also recommend replacing the coffee maker. Again, everything was lovely so it was hard to find anything we didn’t like about the place!

Lovely quirky little cottage, right in the heart of the historic district. We were able to walk to all of the places of interest without having to use the car.

Would be quite tricky to negotiate the little internal staircase with any level of mobility disability . The shower was not very efficient, but then this is a very old property and so some quirks have to be accepted.

The location is superb and the property truly historical. The parking is on site. The property is an enclosed, very picturesque garden with fountain. It will be even better in spring when the various plants bloom. The bed was comfortable and the house had all the needed facilities including a working kitchen which I didn't really need because I ate out.

Not much on breakfast -- just cereal and fruit. I would recommend an accommodation with a nearby restaurant for a proper breakfast. The house is heated/cooled with a window unit which is loud but given the age of the building, central air/heat would be too costly to install. Fortunately, the weather was clement and I had no need for it. Given the age of the building, handicapped people should definitely avoid. The spiral stairway between floors was a challenge even for the nimble. Finally, the tree next to the second floor exit should be trimmed to allow better access.

This was a charming old house with enough updates to make it comfortable. The stairs were narrow but easy to climb and descend for those without a disability. We really enjoyed sitting in the garden in the evening and in the morning. Off-street parking was easy and convenient. An easy walk to the Market area for lunch/dinner. The walk to King Street up by the College of Charleston was also manageable.

This was such an amazing experience! The cook shed where we stayed was so cute and the entire property was beautiful. The hosts were also very nice and accommodating. The location was perfect and within walking distance of almost anywhere we went.

The only two very small challenges were parking and the staircase. The parking is to be expected in Charleston, though. The driveway is a little tight and you share it with anyone else staying on the property. Luckily, after you park, you probably won’t need to use your vehicle again. Also, the staircase from the downstairs up to the bedroom/bathroom is tight and pretty steep. For me, it added to the overall charm, but I could see that it might be different to navigate for some.

The location was excellent. It was a short walk to the waterside parks, shopping on King Street, and the historic sites. It is just enough removed from the busy streets to feel like an oasis of quiet. The courtyard/garden area was serene, shaded, and cool. It was a great place to relax between excursions.

The air conditioner in the bedroom was loud, and woke us up whenever it started on the first night. The rest of the trip we turned it off at night. The overhead fan provided enough air circulation to keep us comfortable.

This is a historic 'kitchen' house as part of a historic property in the heart of the historic center of Charleston. It's a perfect location to explore Charleston and a perfect window into history that would not be available except for the generous hosts opening their property. It is a 238 year old house so there are creaks and dips, but that's a huge part of it's charm. The bathrooms are newly renovated and the home is very comfortable - and the A/C works great. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating and clearly take pride in owning this historic home.
