Red Roof Inn Kingsport

It was the third time we have stayed there. We recently purchased a home in Gate City, Va. just six miles away. So the Red Roof Inn has been our base of operations so to speak. A shout out to Bobbi who prepares the wonderful continental breakfast during the week. She has a tremendous work ethic and does a wonderful job on the excellent breakfast.

We spent the day out at our new home getting things done for our move in end of the month. Tired from a long day, we returned to the hotel at around 4pm and house keeping had not cleaned our room. Not that big of a deal, we survived realizing some times things get missed.

Breakfast was fine. Shower was great. Water in the show drained nicely.

I made a reservation for non-smoking (as I always do). Check-in person said I made it for smoking and was all sold out. My receipt had smoking with a no-smoking icon next to it. She claimed this was for smoking. Wasn't able to get the key working after two different resets. Counter person tried with a key, but still couldn't get in either. She assigned me another smoking room - claiming she could not make a change because the reservation came from Booking.com. Never saw more than a 10-15 cars in the parking lot - so much for "all sold out." Also, the hotel would only provide room service after three days. I believe the hotel was probably severely understaffed.

The breakfast was average. You didn’t have to put the butter in the fridge, it was too cold to spread. The sausage was very good. Eggs were just ok.

The breakfast attendant (the elderly, white gentleman) wasn’t very friendly. Everyone else looked at us and said hello, he just looked at us and looked down. The other gentleman was friendly and held a nice conversation with us, that’s what you would expect from a southern town.

I went to the sprint car races in Bristol which rained out on Saturday. I tried to leave early come home but couldn't cancel out of the room because of loop holes in the online third party booking which I did not like so I was stuck staying through the original booking because I was getting charged anyway...that's the one thing that will keep me from doing it again. It should be my choice when I leave and not some booking agency and the staff said they couldn't help me with that I had to do it myself through the third party agency and have them contact Red Roof of Kingsport....that is not good policy in my opinion and before I ever book another room again I will make sure the hotel will allow me to leave when I want with credit on the spot without jumping through a bunch of hoops.

Tom, front end rep has the personality for the job. Friendly, courteous and helpful. He "went over the top" to solve a simple tv programming problem. It was frustrating but we perservered. He could "teach" no, you have to be born this way. Send a "spotter" to see what I mean. He is an asset to Red Roof Inn

Difficult to find driveway entrance. A sign where you pull in to direct you through the other businesses before arriving at your destination

the convenient location is the intersection of two busy thoroughfares, so ambient noise level was somewhat high; prices were higher during NASCAR race weekend but still relatively better value than other motels or hotels in the area at that time.

Breakfast was good, but out of biscuits Saturday at 8:30.

A lot of loud talking and activity throughout the night and until daylight. We only had 1 towel on Sunday morning. They did not bring any towels at all. Phone in the room did not work.

It was close to the interstate for easy access.

the refrigerator didn’t work, couldn’t find any ice machine that worked, and the seal around the entrance door was defective or non-existent which allowed cold air to enter the room all night long. Also, the desk chair armrests were all worn out and unsanitary.

The room was clean and the staff was very polite. The selection at Breakfast was good. waffles were great. Great cereal and danish selections. Great value.

The bottom of the sofa was warn out and needs to be replaced. The eggs and meat were a little on the cold side at breakfast . I would like some fruit added to the selection.

Location was convenient to all Kingsport has to offer. Easy access to the property from multiple directions Staff was helpful in getting me a room after trouble with the reservation.

A friend who lives in Tennessee made the initial reservation. When they arrived to check in they were informed this location will not allow anyone who lives with in 60 miles to get a room.
