Allie & George were nothing but wonderful for all of the Vet Cricket guys in our group. They were very amenable, supportive & ensured we had a great time. Their extra support in solving some tech problems & resources, arranging a non planned/booked Brekky for some with extra needs and their advice about the local area, taxi problems et al was much appreciated. The twin room apartments are huge and the facilities very good indeed. The pool was immaculate. All staff were punctual & thorough & respectful when fitting in cleaning around our program. Thank you.

Nothing to not like!

I’ve stayed at the Shakespeare for my entire life whenever visiting Mackay and through every owner it’s always been a wonderful experience and it was no different this time. The beds are comfy it’s warm and the facilities are well maintained. This time they upgraded me to a family room due to overbooking which made my stay extra comfortable. I can’t recommend this place enough, I hope in future the bar and restaurant will reopen I have fond memories of the food there. And now as a solo female traveller I should note that I felt very safe and secure, the staff are on site and ensure there are no drunken disorderly patrons and I’ve never felt the need to implement added security measures to feel comfortable enough to sleep. The quality of both the room and service is always the same with every stay and it’s exceptional!

We booked an executive King room and ended up with a two bedroom apartment with Queen bed. We do prefer a King bed, however the apartment was roomy and well positioned for us to leave early the following morning without disturbing other people. The higher clearance carports are easy for parking raised 4wd’s. We loved the breakfast basket and generous supply of milk.

The room, and especially the bathroom is dated, but still clean. We checked in and then found our room wasn’t ready, the staff went straight to our room to clean it and make beds when they realised we had arrived. The room was very clean when we did get inside.

Great tucked away location made the room peaceful. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the room itself had very good amenities. Great for a single night stay.

There are no procedures for travellers that say longer than one day. With the exception of the first day, the included breakfast in our room charge had to be chased up every day. On the last day of our stay, the office was closed, and we received no breakfast at all.

Stayed at the Shakespeare last week while passing through Mackay, really couldn’t fault my stay. I was due to arrive late and late check in was organised and communicated perfectly by hotel. Room was pretty big; pristinely clean and bed was comfortable as, it also came with a very nice crib breakfast/lunch. Met a couple of staff throughout my stay and they were all so friendly too. Passing through Mackay again in a few weeks and planning to stay here again.

Couldn’t fault it.

We stayed in a 1 bedroom unit. It was clean and tidy. The living area was spacious but crowded with 2 single beds as well as a dining table and chairs and a lounge suite. There were only 2 of us so no problem with space. The kitchenette was better equipped than I expected of a motel unit. Aircon worked well in both the bedroom and living area. The shower was over a bath but had good flow of hot water. The ensuite was very spacious, actually too much space. Self check-in was well organised - we arrived late on Sunday.

The queen bed was somewhat uncomfortable due to some sagging in the middle. The Wi-Fi signal was weak - I assume this was because we were at the far end of the property from the office. 4G reception was good.

The main attraction of this motel for me was its architecture. When doing a search for a place to stay in Mackay the look of this motel caught my attention because it looked a lot like the office of the Shakespeare and Hathaway detective agency from the BBC TV series which I like. It looks very different from the other residential buildings around it. I had nothing to complain about regarding my wife's and my stay there and the room and attached bathroom was clean and had the necessities we required.

The property appeals from the outside. The room was a pleasant surprise because it was very roomy and had fridge, microwave, jug and toaster. Biscuits, tea and coffee were also complimentary. The curtains helped keep the room dark at night. The owners were extremely helpful. There is also a pool available for guests. Whilst we only stayed one night because of the room facilities it would be easy to stay here for several nights.

I have stayed a few times here. And will do on my return journey. This is not a 5 star accomodation but that is reflective in the price. However, i have travelled all over the world and the value for money is absolutely very good. I would describe the rooms as a bit dated (especially the bathrooms) but absolutely more than acceptable. Rooms are more than adequate - especially if other guests dont bang around upstairs. If you want a solid room to rest your head on a journey I would recommend staying here and even for a few days. No views (unless you like bowls!!) but very close to the water and probably a 5-10 minute walk.

A few flies etc. perhaps supply bug spray but they probably came in when people (including me) left the door open inloading the car.

Decor dated but the room well set out and very clean. All amenities are good and the little breakfast basket was a very nice touch. Location was not Central to Mackay, but we only wanted a quick stop on our way down to Brisbane. Bed was very comfortable, nice linen too. Communication regarding where to collect the key, etc was very good, I received a text to tell me exactly what to do which was very helpful as we arrived at 7 pm. Quiet location really good value for the price!
