Rydges Southbank Townsville

Brilliant location, especially for people travelling to Townsville to watch the football. Easy access to the (decaying) city centre. Bed was extremely comfortable.

Our room was not cleaned on the first day, cleaning staff placed a notice saying they couldn’t clean it because of personal things left on the bed. This is when we down to the restaurant for breakfast. However this was quickly rectified when brought to the attention of the reception staff. Shower was aged, small and a black shower curtain over the shower blocked light out so we were effectively showering i the dark with the light on.

Location is perfect on Palmer Street with lots of dining options and only a short walk to the strand. Room was lovely and spacious, very comfortable beds and generous supply of toiletries. Lovely view of the harbour. Complimentary biscuits at reception was generous. Reception Staff was very helpful

Room was not cleaned properly upon arrival. Mould on ceiling at entrance was a concern. Desk was dusty and sticky to the touch. Lampshades were not neatly on side tables. Peppermint tea would have been lovely as well as bottle of water replaced daily. Photos didn't show bathroom properly and therefore didn't know the showers had shower curtains, which I don't like. I always select bathrooms with proper fitted shower screens when that option is available. Noise levels from the street can impact one trying to fall asleep. Room Service was done daily and fresh towels provided, however dirty dishes were left behind and clean coffee cups were not provided.

It had a very comfortable bed & spacious room and had everything we needed. We loved the location. It was just fantastic with restaurants, city mall & Cowboys Stadium, all within walking distance. I absolutely loved the size of the big TV screen. The buffet breakfast was a bonus @ $25pp at Rydges restaurant - what a perfect way to start the day 😋

It's outdated & needs to be updated, eg, paint, around door edges, better decor & our room could have done with another soft armchair or a small 2 x seater sofa. Also, the TV should have been a "Smart" TV with Netflix, Prime options, so we could have logged into our own account. The Air Con wasn't working too well as when we arrived, the room was freezing (°18) then during the night, it got very HOT (°27) 🤷‍♀️ Outside noise was very loud eg: traffic, people talking both out on the street & outside the room in foyer & music at night.

Very friendly and helpful staff, such nice people. Room was clean and beds were very comfortable with nice sheets. We had a nice view from our room over the marina. Good location if you plan to dine on Palmer street, only a very short walk to the yacht club as well which is nice. Microwave and kettle in the room. The pool was super warm, like bath water, and was open till 10.pm. price was a good deal the night we stayed and was good value for money for a 1 night stay. There is a taxi rank out the front so easy to get a cab to the airport.

Bathroom was extremely poor and below standard for a Rydges chain hotel. Surprisingly bad. Really needs to be ripped out and refreshed. Other than the bathroom though the room was fine. With a Reno the hotel would be excellent but based on the cost and value it is still a good stay.

*Location *Breakfast *Staff Really nice breakfast, we like the arrangement of the restaurant. Handy having a 6am breakfast start for those travelling, catching a plane or going to work. Myself and family members have stayed at the hotel on numerous occasions in the last couple of months when visiting Townsville. It’s now our go-to hotel in the area. Staff members Supervisor Casey (sorry if I misspelt) is excellent. She went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and pleasant 👍

Most importantly the rooms and bathrooms are lovely and clean. Bathrooms could use an update, some peeling paint. Part from that happy with cleanliness. Would recommend a stay here to anyone coming to Townsville.

the staff could learn a little more about service. for example, on arrival, when checking in, the specific interaction was, hello, can I please check in - no problem, will you be using the same credit card??? maybe ‘how was your trip so sad” or a more cordial visit would be advised. and upon arriving for breakfast (which was included with the booking) we were questioned on this fact. furthermore, when it was determined we were indeed correct, there was no ‘certainly MR xxx, please enjoy the breakfast”. oh, and when ordering coffee - we were advised by our host that she was the only one on duty and we would need to wait a while…hang on, how is this our problem?? apart from this, the venue and the location are great.

Nice, clean, large comfortable room. We were on the 6th floor with a harbour view. Hotel was in the business district of town, so had a good choice of restaurants to choose from right on the doorstep. Really lovely friendly and helpful staff

Townsville, to me, is not a naturally tourist town, other than if you want to go to Magnetic Island. Nice town just the same though

The self contained apartments are in a separate building in the street behind the main hotel. They were comfortable and very spacious with two bathrooms and large balcony/verandah. These were expensive but had all I needed and was able to work from the main table. There was undercover parking for the apartments.

In comparison, I stayed one night in a hotel room and unfortunately there was too much of a difference -the AC/heating was far too noisy to sleep (no opening windows). The ensuite was very tiny, but manageable. It wasn't terrible but I think I'd been spoilt in the apartments.

this hotel was refurbished no long ago by the looks of it, I think if they change the front entry doors and lobby area to a bit modern look will give them 4 1/2 start, it has all the potential to be a 5 star if they addd all other services that requires to be come one.

the toilet were refurbished but if they put proper showers screen and new cabinets will be a perfect hotel, and should build a gym area, need to have a menu from the kitchen in the rooms, require a tourist book to know what you can do in Townsville, valet parking, and all other services as a 5 start.

The room was a good size and the view fantastic. The location of the motel is excellent, walking distance to anything you would want. The bed was large and comfortable.

The air conditioner was very noisy. The room is a bit old, but this is to be expected as the motel is old. Some renovations have been done. Unfortunately, my husband found a used tissue between the pillows on the bed, so maybe housekeeping needs to be checked.
