This place is an absolute gem. I'm so glad we stayed at least two nights, but 3 0r 4 would have been even better. Located less than ten minutes from Tanunda but quite a way down a gravel road, it is quiet and very serene. Like a slice of Tuscany in the Barossa. The stone buildings and gardens were enchanting. The weather was fabulous and so after a day of sightseeing and wine tasting the pool was very much appreciated, as were the BBQ, facilities.. If you are looking for somewhere special to stay to enhance your Barossa experience then this is it.

The location was good, but their was no breakfast as advertised. Very nice as far as the grounds and quietness, but a lot of money, for basically somewhere to sleep.

There was no food available at all. We were told on arriving that we would have to drive to town for and food. As a retreat, it should be the sort of place, where you go to relax and not have to leave if you don’t want to. It’s a bit hard to drive to town for dinner and not enjoy a wine with your meal, as you then have to drive back to the retreat. Then in the morning, you can’t have a sleep in & get up to enjoy a breakfast. You have to get in the car again & go back to town for that.

The accomodation was so spacious & the bed was big and comfortable. Lots of space in the sitting room to relax. Eclectic decor which gave the cottage heaps of character. The outside space was both private and enchanting.

It was a little tired in the bathroom (the cupboard doors were chipped and same inside the wardrobe) but we managed to look past this as the accomodation provided everything we needed. I would have liked to see large refillable bottles of shower wash/shampoo rather than the little disposable type which create excess plastic waste.

Stayed at retreat for our 20th wedding anniversary, gardens & pool area are stunning, shame it was cool and drizzly so it was hard to indulge and enjoy them. Room comfy, big round spa bath unique and we used it given weather not suitable for relaxing by the pool. Shame.

No foxtel or streaming services on tv given average weather. Not a lot of natural light in our room to enjoy gardens from your room in average weather. Pool furniture could be a little better. Property a little isolated, fine for our overnight stay in Barossa.

We loved the beautiful grounds and gardens which are meticulously maintained. Our accommodation was spacious, private and the bed was super comfortable. The location is an ideal base from which to explore the Barossa while still being away from busier tourist areas. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend.

There's honestly nothing to say, we had a wonderful time.

There is much to like about JCR starting with the location. it’s quiet, the setting is lovely, and it’s picturesque. The bath tubs are huge and perfect for a couple. The proprietor is very accommodating with suggestions and any help needed. The TVs accept Chromecast and internet appears to be Starlink so it’s easy to watch any streaming show or movie you choose instead of network TV most hotels offer. Dishes provided were very helpful and nice quality.

Rooms are historic so they are adequate but not spacious. Beds are a bit on the hard side but only a bit, and it was not clean underneath. A microwave would have been handy.

A gorgeous venue, dripping with charm, peacefulness, and a lovely balance between ramshackled and formal beauty. The cottage itself and the setting was soo romantic, staying in the old settler's homes; and the cottage was beautifully fitted out wirh antique furniture. We loved opening the french doors in the bedroom and looking out from the bed to our private courtyard. The larger gardens and pool were incredible - so relaxing and peaceful. What a delightful place to rest amidst all the green. We loved playing croquet on the lawn too. A place to breathe deeply and rest.

The only disappointment was being surprised that there were no breakfast supplies to speak of, and no proper milk - despite having a coffee machine. It was weird having plates ave cutlery supplied, and a cutting board, but no provisions.

Absolutely stunning location, very romantic. Beautiful gardens to take a walk in. Quite secluded. Very comfortable bed. It was too chilly to take a dip in the pool but it looked clean and inviting.

Nespresso machine needed a clean internally. Expensive to get a cab ride into town but that was our choice. Rolled my ankle on a wobbly brick step in the dark so could use a bit more lighting for a night stroll but no big deal.

We stayed in The Loft, which was very unique. The room was very well equiped, spotlessly clean, with a large bathroom. The gardens and grounds are beautiful, tranquil and private. First night we ventured into town for dinner at 1918 restaurant which was very good. Second night we used the BBQ facilities and cooked produce we had sourced in our travels during the day. Host Jerry was very accomodating, allowing us (including friends also staying) to use the lovely enclosed and heated pavillion to dine in. Memorable night. Would defintely return in summer to enjoy the gardens more.
