We had a pleasant and great stay at Pousada Rio144! Thanks to Jean, Fred and the rest of the staff were our needs and questions always met. Jackies backing skills are another highlight of our stay. :) The views are spectacular, the pool offers a relaxing, peace of mind as well as uncanny vibe and the furnishing of the place gives off an authentic, yet modern flare. Loved it!

The only little downside is the location, it is at first difficult to reach with taxis. Otherwise is a great place for people who want to explore Corcovado and Santa Teresa.

Everything about Jean's hotel is exceptional - every detail was thought through meticulously and Rio144 is by far one of the best, most comfortable and prettiest places we've ever stayed in. The bedroom view to Pão de Açúcar is spectacular and something out of a movie. Some people might be put off by the location, but we didn't feel unsafe at any point during our stay and the positives definitely outweigh the small inconvenience of a 15 minute uber ride and the steep hills that need to be taken to get to the hotel. The highlights are too much to be mentioned in detail, but we were welcomed by monkeys surrounding the hotel trees and Jaqui, the chef, cooks a genuine traditional breakfast to die for.

Nothing we didn't like, the only recommendation we'd give travellers would be to consider having a few uber drivers' numbers as a pre-arranged agreement to go up Santa Teresa hill as a back up.

We had the most incredible stay at Rio144. The views are out of this world. The owners were lovely and made us feel very welcome. The room was clean and the pool/terrace area was relaxing. Breakfast each morning was fabulous and we were so happy we chose to stay here rather than the typical tourist places by the beach. We had a wonderful time.

There was nothing we didn't like. Just be prepared to use Uber to get around. It will take 20 mins or so to some of the main tourist attractions. We liked being more isolated but not everyone does.

The view, the staff/owners; the house/property is so unique and everything, even the trees, are placed perfectly for shade/views. This place is perfection - you don’t need to leave! The owners/family were so kind and went the extra mile for us - placing toys in the room for our little one, letting us borrow a thermometer when she was sick, including us in a visit with local friends, walking us to a restaurant, answering soooo many questions, showing us how to make caiperenias. I cannot say enough except that if you are considering this place, it would be a shame to miss out. It was BY FAR, the best place we stayed on our trip to Rio. I’m so so happy I found it!

The food was second to none, the variation, choice & quality were superb. It was served beautifully and with plenty of variation of areas of where we could have it. As for the quality, location, cleanliness and everything else about this property it most certainly couldn't have been any better, i only wish we had been staying with Jean for a much longer time. We will be going back.

Absolutely INCREDIBLE STAY - STUNNING. This place is next level - amazing location right at the top of Santa Teresa, infinity (barriered) pool with panoramic views across Rio inc Sugarloaf Mt. and Corcovado (Christ the Redeemer). Rooms are stunning, massive beds with memory foam mattresses and the same panoramic views. Excellent facilities. Stunningly decorated, lovely facilities, just beautiful and gorgeous. Really friendly (but discreet/not OTT) team - Jean and family (owners) are lovely and so was reception manager Thalita and the rest of the team. Nice honesty bar policy where you can help yourself to drinks and pay at the end. The hotel is an absolute must-stay but a few notes: - Accessibility wise please check with Jean if you have specific needs before booking in - it's right at the top of a very steep hill (hence the AMAZING vistas). We were fine (the hotel is a registered address on Uber and most of them were happy to stop reasonably close to the top of the hill), however some yellow taxis don't know the address so you need to be pretty clear with them in terms of instructions. - Food: The hotel provides a fabulous breakfast. There are also cooking facilities if you would like to do some self-catering at lunch/dinner, and good sized fridges in the rooms. As mentioned we easily travelled the area through a combo of walking (daytime only!) and Ubers, and ate predominantly in the fabulous local(ish) restaurants Aprazivel, Tereze, Lilia (Lapa) etc etc. I think ordering food delivery might be difficult here due to the location, but on a couple of days/evenings when we wanted to chill (or had an early start next day) we just bought a selection of cheeses/chutneys/meats/breads etc from the supermarket and relaxed on the terrace with beers.

This place is incredible, it's a must-stay (couple notes above re location etc but you don't get these views without this location!!!)

Spectacular views of Rio in this beautiful colonial Villa in the jungle of Rio de janeiro, rooms are nice and spacious with comfortable beds and amazing views. The people (especially Marcia and Jerome) provided us with a great experience and were very accommodating.

From the perspective of a Brazilian the location is quite remote and the neighborhood is not the safest at night. Tourists should take this into account especially in terms of transportation (not all Ubers serve this area so we had to depend on local taxis)

I had an amazing stay for my birthday. The staff and owners were really helpful with getting around and just information I needed on the area. the breakfast was more than enough. Pictures do not capture the essence of the place or the people. This place is magical. I will be visiting again soon. Like any other country you’re visiting, keep your wits about you and BE POLITE.

The design and layout of the property is gorgeous. Every detail is thoughtfully placed. The view from room 8 is OUTSTANDING! We were served breakfast by the pool and enjoyed the honor system with all food and drinks when the main house is closed. The view and tranquility from the pool is a once in a lifetime view and experience. The ladies and gentlemen that attend to the guests were SO sweet. It felt like staying at someone’s fancy home!

Almost in walking distance to places but just a tad too far. However it’s the perfect spot for peace!

We can not recommend staying at Rio144 enough! After spontaneously deciding to stay in Rio for a few more nights, we checked in with Jean and were so impressed with the hotel - from the warm, hospitable staff to the beautiful rooms and stunning views of the city and sugarloaf mountain. Anytime we felt like going into the city we just ordered an uber, but staying at Rio144 also offered the possibility of exploring nearby Santa Teresa. Every morning we would be served a delicious breakfast - a great start to the day. Thank you so much Jean & Co for a lovely stay!
