The Sylvia Hotel

Great location at English Bay in Vancouver's west end. Easy walk to many great restaurants. Public transit very easy from airport with only one transfer from the skytrain to a bus and a cost of around $8. The room was big and comfortable. We were able to sleep with the windows open and not be bothered by traffic noise. The fruit tray we got from breakfast room service was outstanding in freshness and value. Happy hour in the bar for sunset was well priced and a beautiful view.

We would have preferred not being by the elevators. Fortunately one was being updated and so, not being used. You could hear people talking while they were waiting for the elevator that was working. Not a deal breaker but not a great way to start your morning.

The hotel was great and we spent a lovely time there! Everyone was friendly and helpful.Breakfast in the restaurant was nice with a fantastic view. The location is unbeatable and this part of Vancouver is of of many pleasant areas of Vancouver. The room was quiet at night and we left the window open. It was comfy and spacious. We loved the atmosphere of the hotel, there is a lot of history and that makes it so special. Parking is easy. Early morning walks at the nearby seaside were fantastic. You meet joggers, cyclists and people walking their dogs. Grab a bike and cycle the seawall, it starts at your doorstep :) Lovely cafés, restaurants, supermarkets etc were very close to the hotel. You can walk to the ferry taking you to Granville Island. Gaston is not far away and the walk there is nice. I wouldn´t want to stay anywhere else in Vancouver!

Fabulous place to stay in a fantastic location on English Bay just a short walk from the wonderful Stanley Park and a somewhat longer stroll from the water taxi over to Granville Island and beyond. The room we had was very spacious with the luxury of a separate sleeping area for our son. It could, perhaps, be described as a little dated but I prefer to think of it as simply being in keeping with such a beautiful and historic building. The restaurant has an excellent menu - we enjoyed both breakfast and dinner during our stay and can recommend both. One tip would be to book even if you're a guest of the hotel as it is very popular and rightly so. The staff were lovely and the service provided was exemplary with nothing being too much trouble.

Our only disappointment is that our stay wasn't longer - we'll certainly be back if we can!

Fabulous location across from English Bay. A cosy, comfortable hotel. The beds and pillows were great and the room was spotless. Loved that there were two comfy armchairs around a good sized table from which we could relax, read, or see a partial view of English Bay. We stayed at the Sylvia Hotel for 2 nights, after flying in very early from New Zealand. We had a reservation but didn’t expect to be able to get into a room before noon, however staff went out of their way to find one and get it cleaned and ready so that we could get some sleep in the morning - we greatly appreciated their thoughtfulness! The hotel is very convenient for the many restaurants and coffee shops on Denman and Davie Streets, and close to the bus stops. Nice bar and restaurants in the hotel with great views of the bay.

Room numbering system is confusing.

The exceptional, friendly, and efficient staff even on a busy New Year's Eve visit.

The food in the restaurant was good but not exceptional (except for the Lava Cake). Not quite sure how they arrived at who gets what table and at what time. We were told they only had 5 pm available, but when we left, there seemed to be lots of empty tables. We sat at the bar for a while, and there were empty tables right up to 8 pm, so why couldn't we have a reservation for at least 6 pm.

When I booked my flight to Vancouver through Booking.com, I received a $60 voucher to use on my hotel. I could not use this voucher online, and no one replied to my inquiry from Booking.com. Then the voucher expired. I thought I would be paying $129 for my room, not $189. Even though my stay was great, it still left a bad taste in my mouth. I felt a bit ripped off. I sure hope Booking.com reads this and provides me with a $60 refund!!

Classy historic hotel that maintained the historic decor, comfortable and roomy rooms, high quality meals, and thoroughly enjoyed the live music entertainment 2 nights. Fantastic location across from English Bay Beach, very close to Stanley Park and Granville Island in a safe neighborhood. Fans were provided due to the lack of air conditioning.

Due to the lack of air conditioning we kept our windows open, unfortunately starting at 7am every day until 5pm, very loud disturbing noise from the garbage bins etc pushed across the cobblestone courtyard below. Don't recommend staying on this side of the building. Recommend putting window air conditioners in the.rooms on this side of the building.

Our room was large and a great view. I’m a regular at this hotel

The restaurant is always a toss up. The menu has improved but the service is sometimes a black hole. Our breakfast and service at that time was terrific. Our evening meal was tasty but our first server left us after the main came and never came back the rest of the servers didn’t pick up the slack and we were left for a unreasonable amount of time with plates finished. We took a chance and ordered dessert and coffee. Coffee came quickly. Dessert never showed up for ten minutes after our coffee was finished. I sent the dessert back and paid the tab sans the dessert. Server busy talking to random people. Not sure if this was a kitchen issue or a server problem

The property has character and the dining room has one of the best views in the city. Staff are friendly and servers were accommodating with our choice of seating in the dining room. There was live music on Sunday night that was great. The rooms are in good shape, not super modern but clean and well maintained, handsome, spacious, all the amenities wifi etc. parking is also easy and convenient, no valet required.

The bed was very comfortable and the location was perfect. Close to the ocean, restaurants & bus stops. It was surprisingly quiet as we like to have the windows opened during the day & night & Room 711 was very clean & spacious. Front desk staff are very helpful, & polite.

Unfortunately when we checked in the elevators were not working, and then again the next day in the afternoon, but they were eventually fixed. The front desk staff were very apologetic & offered to hold our luggage upon our arrival.
