Best Western Plus Chocolate Lake Hotel - Halifax

I loved the location and my son had so much fun in the arcade and pool.

When I was getting ready to get my car packed the cleaner asked if we were checking out it was only 10 o’clock. I said we will be checking out soon and I asked what time check out was she said 11. Then I brought a few bags out and she asked me if I was done yet and I said no my sons still in the room and I have a few more bags to grab. I put my son in the car and she asked me again if I was done yet. I said no I still have to grab two more things. I felt rushed she asked me at least 3 times if I was leaving yet and it was kind of rude because by the time I left it was only 10:30. I still had half an hour left to check out.

The saltwater pool was very quiet. The availability of coffee in the lobby outside breakfast hours was appreciated. Breakfast had a lovely selection of hot and cold items. The outdoor spaces were relaxing with chairs and picnic tables overlooking Chocolate Lake.

The access to the outdoor deck area at breakfast was awkward. One has to open a door onto a cement step then down onto the deck area whilst carrying a breakfast tray. Watched pretty much every person fumble. Main parking and access to front door/hotel lobby is a tight squeeze when it's busy.

I travelled with my 19 year old granddaughter who is 1/2 done with her nursing degree. We stayed 2 nights in Truro in a shipping container and 4 nights with you. We traveled place in our rental car and used taxi when we took visit to a pub then saw Billy Elliott on opening night. We walked full length of Harborfront one day, enjoyed the hammocks, shopping, etc. Re the hotel, we stayed there as our home away from home, had several meals there, lived the lake scenery, used gym, staff was always friendly. A friend of mine who lives in Dartmouth recommended it to us. We would gladly stay there again. Thanks.

The breakfast offered delicious. They offered a full breakfast with eggs, bacon and pancakes. The hotel was in a great location for what we were there for. It was only 10 minutes from the allergy clinic. Rooms were clean and spacious. The bathroom was a bit tight on space but most hotels are like that anyway. The staff were really nice. I sent a message through booking for an arrival around 2 while their check in was at 3. We were able to get in at 1 but the response from the staff on booking.com was a bit off putting.

The response from the staff on booking.com. When mentioned about an early check in at 2 I was informed that check in was 3 and I can check in after 3. I spent 5 years in hotel customer service and wouldn’t have responded that way. Instead I would have told the guest that “we will try our best but check in is at 3 and I cannot guarantee anything before that time”.

The location of the Hotel is good only 15 minutes from Halifax waterfront by car ,and we enjoyed our swims in the lake by the Hotel, also the supervised beach on the opposite side of the lake is only a 10 minute walk away. The staff were superb both in the Hotel and the restaurant. The buffet breakfast was very enjoyable with a good choice of food available and also the evening meals were of good quality and a reasonable price. The room was clean and tidy with a fair amount of space and comfortable beds although a little more storage for clothes would have been good. The air con unit in the room worked well and bathroom and shower were good. Overall, very good, would stay again and recommend to others

The Hotel is pet friendly and during the second week of our stay guests with Dogs moved into rooms adjacent to us and although that didn't cause too many issues there is the possibility that it could as the dogs barked quite a lot.

The hotel was close to the activities we were doing near the Wharf/Boardwalk and close to Dalhousie University. The breakfast was great, good variety and always hot and fresh no matter what time we decided to eat each day. The convenience of the Bar and Grill restaurant for dinner was a bonus. The view was nice for patio seating. The room was very comfortable.

I don't think there was anything we did not enjoy. If we were to be picky we were a bit worried about the soccer team staying on the 7th floor same as us as they were quite noises for the evening and running around.

The location of our room as able to drive car to the door which was so convenient.The location on the lake was lovely to sit in outside chairs or on patio and observe activities in lake.The food was delicious .The complimentary self serve breakfast was the best I've ever had with variety.And lastly but most importantly the staff were the friendliest and most professional., and consistently.

I can't think of a thing to say as I was thoroughly pleased with everything.

I loved the view from our room, the dinning and comfort. the staff were great. the breakfast was wonderful. location was still close to some stores but not right in high traffic area. our floor was very quiet. staff was helpful and accommodating.

the tv for some reason the remote only worked half the time and the guide would say certain things were on but they weren’t on. We didn’t get to enjoy the pool much as it wasn’t very big and it was very busy. the parking lot was very small and had a lot of pot holes.

We loved this Amazing hotel! it’s about a 7 minute drive to downtown Halifax. It is also very close to major highways and the scenic roads to Pegg’s Cove and all the other beautiful towns west of Halifax. We had a view of chocolate lake which is a cute small lake. You can go for a swim from the hotel property or walk/drive a short distance and access the small Sandy beach across the lake. All the staffs very super friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was superb. Guests can also sit on the patio overlooking the lake for a drink or a meal. Our children loved the pool and the arcade. Guests can help themselves to a full service coffee/espresso/ cappuccino machine in the hotel Lobby as well. We LOVED this place.

Our rooms air conditioner was unusually loud and we brought that to the attention of the front desk when checking out. It probably needed a tone up but it’s didn’t affect our experience at this hotel.

We didn't get there as the day we arrived, we had a phone call to say a close family member had passed away. We had booked in for three nights but left the following day, not having used any of the facilities. The staff were excellent, very helpful and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely stay here should we travel to Canada in the future, and would highly recommend it.
