Fabulous hotel. Centrally located, easy to get to on the train from the airport. A short walk to many of the landmarks in Helsinki. The hotel is beautiful& the staff are very friendly & helpful. The hotel sauna is lovely too. We loved the breakfasts , it was so nice to have some traditional Finnish food along with the more common hotel breakfast items. The restaurant is gorgeous with amazing views from the balcony. We spent new years eve at the hotel, watching the fireworks & eating wonderful food. We even got a downpour of snow!. I love Helsinki& will definitely return to the sokos hotel.

Location is fantastic, nice and quiet, amazing views, cosy atmosphere, safe and above all else, the staff!! They are incredible, I cannot thank each and everyone enough. I contacted the hotel a bit before my stay to ensure what I was booking had the view I like, with a balcony room. Whilst understanding it’s based on availability, I was looked after and taken care of. Staff make or break a business, and the staff definitely made this my favourite trip to Finland (I’ve been 7 times before). I want somewhere that felt like home, somewhere comfortable and somewhere I can always return to and I finally found my go to hotel. I will be back!! Thank you to every staff member who corresponded and looked after my stay, I’m forever grateful!

I must say I didn't expect the room to be big, even though we booked a family room. I could even open all my 3 large suitcases on the floor when I did the packing before we checked out. It is unfair to rate the breakfast as this is the last hotel we stayed for our 15-day trip. The spreads for BF are the same as the same hotel, and we already lost interest in the same old item. The location location location... please do not need to take a taxi from the airport.. the railway station is just right opposite the hotel. The tram station is right outside too about 5 mins walk. There is a 24-hour supermarket right below the building, but pls ask for directions from reception.

The toilet is abit old, the extra bed needs to be more comfortable.

The buffet breakfast was wonderful. It had tons of options, including fresh fruit, and some vegetables. While I am not vegan or gluten-free, I noticed they had those options available. The hotel sauna was top-notch and well-maintained. Being so close to the train station was helpful on several levels. I used it often as a landmark to get back to my hotel. Even even shopped, the department store connected to the hotel, and I’m not a frequent shopper. Also, I was on the eighth floor, and it was extremely quiet at night and early in the morning which helped with sleeping.

I was a little concerned that there are so many entrances to the hotel that it might lack proper security to the room floors. I never experienced any problems. You do need a key card to activate the elevator to the floors and there are cameras on the room floors

Our room was spacious with a lovely bathroom which appeared to have been recently redone. We opted for a quiet room, so there was no view to speak of as we were looking out into a space in the middle of the hotel and down into a department store which sits below the hotel in the same building. Breakfast was excellent with loads of options to choose from and, when we needed to eat earlier than the breakfast window, we were provided with a breakfast bag which was perfect for our itinerary that day. We also enjoyed use of the hotel's sauna during our stay. Staff were friendly and helpful and the location of the hotel is great - very close to the central train station and loads of shops, cafes, restaurants etc.

The other members of our group had a much smaller room which was not as recently renovated and therefore not up to the same standard as the room we had been allocated. They did, however, have a much better view! A kettle is provided in the room, but there is nowhere very sensible to plug it in, and the bedside tables are far too small. These are small points though and overall we were very happy with the accommodation and stay at Original Sokos Vaakuna.

We stayed twice (each stay 3 days 2 nights) in the first week and second week of October 2024. The hotel located in the heart of city centre and right next to the main train station, metro and tram lines. The shopping malls, supermarkets, restaurants and sightseeing are all within short walking distance. The room is spacious, clean and the beds are comfortable. We enjoyed the night view of the city from the window. The hotel has luggage storage room facility (near the hotel entrance) and the door has security lock. Breakfast buffet style was nice with a great choice of food. Breakfast restaurant on the 10th floor and has beautiful view of Helsinki city. The front desk staffs are friendly and very helpful. Reasonable wait time for check-in/out. We had pleasant stay.

Beautiful vintage hotel right in the heart of the city! Comfortable bed and heated bathroom floors. Great view from the large windows and very quiet considering its proximity to all the trams, busses and people. Breakfast was by far the best we had in our stay in Helsinki with its fantastic selection of items and views from the restaurant on floor 10. Women’s sauna was lovely, clean and temperature was fantastic

Checking was extremely slow-only place we stayed that didn’t have some form of online check in prior to reaching the property to expedite things so took longer. When using main entrance to the hotel there are several steps or a very steep ramp in place to get to the reception desk. Elevators are tiny (built in the 50’s) but fine for us as a only 2 travellers

Interesting hotel, with lots of 1950's touches (it was built for the 1952 Olympics). Has been sympathetically renovated and is very, very central, right by the main railway station and main shopping areas. If I'm being picky the room was a touch small, perhaps. Quite expensive - but that's Helsinki. Arrived too late (just before midnight) to use the sauna sadly. Really impressive breakfast as well, so I'd recommend it highly. Also there's a handy 24 hour supermarket in the same building.

Room could perhaps have been a touch bigger but was fine overall - and it was one of their cheapest rooms and still had a great view (see the picture!)

Fabulous property, friendly staff, comfy beds and spacious bedrooms with huge windows, great breakfast with lovely views on the 10th floor. 24hour supermarket is under the hotel along with a metro station and the tram stops and railway is a few steps from the hotel

Luggage is difficult (I travelled with my elderly father and Niece) they have steps upto the reception and a steep ramp to take luggage up and down. When your bags are heavy it’s quite difficult. The lifts are also small so you have to have a couple of trips if travelling in a group. But this really isn’t a huge problem at all if you’re not in a wheelchair. They do have staff lifts that wheelchair users can access but have to be activated by staff to go up but you can come down on your own.

Location was great, and very quiet despite being in one of the main plazas. Room was well appointed, spacious, and very comfortable - especially liked the thick curtains as we were not used to so many hours of daylight! Breakfast was good - catered for meateaters, vegetarians/vegans. Loved the sourdough loaf bread! Cost of the room was a bit expensive for us, but certainly got what more than what we thought we paid for!

Breakfast was a bit repetitive for vegetarians because we don't eat mashed potato (as an example) for breakfast, and if you don't like eggs, the only alternative was raw salad vegies. Would have liked to see baked beans as a regular alternative - in 3 days we only saw it once!
