You can't beat the location. Great value for money on the city view rooms as all rooms in the tower are the same size. That being said, the rooms are small, and the bathroom is tiny. The room is more like a 4 star hotel but you're able to use all of the facilities of the palace wing such as pool, fitness center, and spa. I stayed in the palace wing last year and you definitely get what you pay for, and that includes the front desk staff which are much more polite and accommodating on the palace side. After experiencing one of the sea facing club rooms in the palace wing once, staying for a fraction of the price on the tower side is well worth it.

The front desk on the tower side were straight up rude and argumentative when I told them that they had disturbed me by calling my room for a non-emergency over and over right around 10pm at night. I like to wake up EARLY. They called me so many times in a row while I was sleeping that I nearly disconnected my phone from the wall. The next morning instead of apologizing, they told me that they are allowed to call the room as many times as they want before 10pm. Totally unacceptable.

WE had issues at breakfast , two points ; The girl at the front who takes names and room numbers is at breakfast we found extremely unfriendly, did not smile and we found her almost rude, she is not representative of the brand name Taj Hotel. Second point we found the breakfast service this morning extremely poor, a fresh orange juice should not tale 10/15 minutes to arrive, by which time the food was cold. The manager repeatedly apologies and I had to remind him he had repeated himself at least three times. On a positive note I found the female member staff in the business centre ( Sanitha) extremely helpful and very professional. Someone who is a credit to the name Taj Hotel and the sort of staff member who we would love to employ. I am sorry if my points above are offending but a feedback has to be honest and based on ones experience .

We booked the Taj Mahal for the final 5 days of a special birthday 14 night trip and were delighted upon arrival to find we had been upgraded from the Tower to the Palace.  We arrived at the room to find it decorated with balloons and also a chocolate birthday cake! House keeping then arranged a simple foot spa in the room which was perfect after a long day travelling. Service was amazing, as you might expect from the jewel in Mumbai's crown of hotels. But we also loved the architecture and the ambience, this hotel is a true treasure from a different age. We took breakfast in the Sea Lounge on the first floor which had a good array of both Indian and western continental offerings, coupled with an amazing view of India Gate and across the bay. Relaxing by the pool was a dream, staff here would always help secure beds in sun or shade, lay out towels and ensure a steady supply of cold bottled water.  The pool itself was heated perfectly, just enough to take off the chill, and plenty of room to either relax or swim laps. The location is great, several great cafe/restaurants within 5 minute walk should you wish to venture out, we recommend Leopold Cafe, Mag St. Cafe and Cafe Mondegar. Don't miss the street markets in an evening too!

Nothing - it was amazing!

Breakfast was excellent. Pool area was perfect as as the positioning of trees and the building kept it cool during extremely hot days. The check in process was efficient and enjoyable. The hotel is well situated to explore key attractions in Mumbai. The linens and towels were exceptional. The room was well maintained twice daily by the cleaning staff.

The staff was less friendly compared to other locals in India. Everyone always had their hand out for a tip for services that should have been included in their 5 star rate. The food in the hotel, while very good, was 4 times the price of great restaurants a stones throw from the hotel.

Splendor, beauty, luxury, excellent service. This hôtel is by far the most beautiful hotel in the world! Staff’s professionalims and kindess is something I have never exprience, in nonę of the 5* hôtels around the world. Some of them have been serving there for 20-30 years (this tells you about how much the hotel management cares about their people which is crucial for good client experience too). I also had an Ayurvedic treatment - abhyanga and shorodara - and it was a pure bliss, the highest quality of service you can imagine. Design of the hotel - with all the little details - is magical! Breakfast in the room facing the Gateway of India and with red sun rising above the bay feels like a dream! PRECISION: I was upgraded to stay at the Palace, thank you for the kindness of staff who upgraded me.

The room was beautiful and massive! Very clean. Staff super friendly. The facilities of the hotel are fantastic, the pool area so relaxing for an afternoon drink and the restaurants were amaaazing! Still dreaming of the food now we are back home. Fantastic location right near the Gateway to India. We would happily return here although it was pretty pricey.

The balcony was a cool feature but it was hard to see out of the fly screen (also the screen was quite dirty), and I preferred other hotels where we had a good view through the window in the air conditioning. No Netflix was a real downside for us! We travelled for surgery so spent a bit of time in the hotel so this was quite annoying. The sound proofing from outside (all the car horns beeping) was not the best. We could still sleep but it was annoying.

I don't generally stay in 5 star hotels but prefer boutique, smaller and basic hotels. I only need a bed and a shower. However, I stayed here because of its history, location and grandness. It was cheaper than a run of the mill London hotel. It was awesome. The staff were lovely, the rooms amazing, the breakfast superb and the location just brilliant. It was a lovely place to stay. I stayed in the Tower (the modern extension) rather than the old part. First, it's way cheaper, Second you have the same access to everything the guests in the old part do and Thirdly, - and this is important - the views are better because of the location and the size of the windows.

The ONLY reason i have scored it 9./10 and not 10/10 is because there was one main thing I wanted (and it was easy): to be left alone. Despite that, I had voice mail messages, telephone calls, notes under the door and the final straw was when I was asked three times when I was checking out. It was as if they had got the money and now the issue was "how quickly can you leave?" It really annoyed me. Some guests may be demanding this or that and getting it but me - a simple request - "do nothing" seemed impossible. In the end, on the evening before check out I went to reception, asked them to tell me all the questions they had for me and would answer them as long as from that point I could just be left alone.
