We live close by and was a treat for myself and my 3 year old daughter. Our room was lovely and comfortable, the pool was a hit with my daughter and the forest around the property was lovely to walk around also. Our dinner was delicious, i had the patè to start and chicken alfredo which was very nice, and they have an activity kids menu and give colors too which is a nice touch. The breakfast was nice, im not a big breakfast person so felt it was wasted on me but my daughter loved the mini pastries, the staff were wonderful very engaging with my daughter and so friendly! Would definitely reccomend
I enjoyed my stay thoroughly, maybe some sort of evening activity for children would be useful, after the pool and the walk (walk was short due to rain) there wasn't much else for her to do, everything else was wonderful though

The food in fire and salt was spectacular. Areas of the hotel renovated where lovely, with blue and grey scheme, but our bedroom had a completely different colour scheme to the bathroom, so the bathroom looked dated.
The sauna and steam room are not hot enough, otherwise the spa is beautiful. A cold plunge pool or ice bath would be a great addition. 2 different staff where difficult to understand, and didn’t seem that interested / articulate with their delivery. But probably require some more training. Girl in restaurant served us and she was brilliant, very engaging and attentive.

The entertainment and meal in the bar was really good. Staff were excellent and very attentive in the daytime and evening. The hotel is so welcoming and very well looked after. There were so many staff available to cater for our needs.
My friend and I were disappointed that the hot tub was not available in the main pool area. It was not possible to book a treatment either on the day we arrived which was Saturday. We felt the hotel should have advised us that the hot tub would not be available due to maintenance. There was also not enough toiletries in the bedroom for 2 people, just one sample bottle of shower gel, shampoo and body lotion, we required a set each. We never received tea or coffee in the morning at breakfast. By the time the manager brought the coffee around we had finished breakfast and I had to leave so I had no time to have the pot of tea.

I travelled with my elderly parents and my husband. Staff and hotel were very supportive in ensuring my parents were comfortable as both have mobility challenges. I have stayed before on a few occassions and always enjoyed the facilities.
The only thing I disliked was having to be seated for the bar, I felt this should be welcoming of all guests without the need to seat you, with seating requirement reserved for dinner times. It just felt like having 2 x restaurants with no "Bar". The seating area off the reception is very comfortable and we decided to have drinks there as there was a 40 min wait for a table, unfortunatley food is not served in this area (only scones, desserts or afternoon tea), I felt it should serve a lunch menu in this area, especially if the bar is full.

It's a beautiful hotel on fabulous grounds which are lovely for a walk around. The whole hotel smells gorgeous like Voya products in the room. The food in the bar was delicious as was breakfast. Every staff member so was polite, friendly and helpful.. The restaurant and function room were both beautiful, airy, spacious rooms
The bar menu only had one vegetarian main course option. We opted to have 2 starters instead and all of these were delicious so can't complain! Also had never been to a bar before that didn't serve West Coast Cooler which was a bit odd

Lovely estate, very friendly and helpful staff. The room was a good size with a lovely bathroom and most importantly very clean. Two nice restaurants to choose from in the hotel. Spa facilities make the hotel stand out. Thermal suites and treatments are well worth the extra costs, despite the overall expense.
We booked an executive double room but walked in to find two separate beds, but after checking with reception the issue was fixed within 30 mins. The general pool area and gym are open to the public and are basically unusable on the weekends. After spending a relaxing morning in the spa, we decided to go for a swim but discovered the pool was filled with young kids doing swimming lessons both Saturday and Sunday so don't expect to continue the relaxing experience in the pool area. The Fire and Salt restaurant advertises a fine dining experience but unfortunately the mains were just ok. The sirloin steak was cooked correctly but lacked flavour and was somehow tough and somewhat dry.

Bed was lovely. Outdoor jacuzzi was nice also. Pool great for small kids. Staff lovely, top class.
Finding out about the dispute with those who had bought houses. Made us uncomfortable that we may be supporting a hotel that had mistreated locals. But thats being ignorant if the dispute. Masks, covid etc was a pain Corridors where bedrooms were felt dusty - would be great if you could ventilate these more.

The Johnstown Estate hotel is an absolutely wonderful place! From the very first moments of our stay, we feel like we're in a fairy tale – greeted with warm smiles from the staff and surrounded by luxury. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, and the views are breathtaking. The restaurant serves exquisite dishes that delight the taste buds, and the service is always ready to assist. The spa is a true haven of relaxation, and the staff treats us like VIPs. Truly a unique hotel that you want to come back to!

The hotel was dressed lovely for Christmas! So cozy. The fireplaces in the front reception were a nice touch. Particularly appreciated the gluten free section of breads at breakfast.
The pillows. I'm pretty picky but these were ridiculously flat even put together! And no extra pillows in the closet. For such a nice place, investment in decent pillows for the beds would be expected. Otherwise, beds were comfy, shower and bath lovely. Location is a bit removed from public transport. A shuttle from the train station would be a nice touch and show support for sustainability!

really clean, modern and lodge was perfect size. the pool and spa was very clean and relaxing. staff were very friendly. Free robes and slippers, free toiletries and tea/coffee.
a few little odd bits in the lodge needed fixing. The oven didn’t heat food properly, the lid of the kettle did not shut properly causing hot water to spill when pouring. The stand in shower in x1 of the rooms only pumped out boiling hot water and you could not turn it down, the bathroom window was blowing a draft despite being shut. there was also no airer to dry laundry, just the small radiators.
