This is a lovely hotel, very traditional and it's obviously been there a while. The common areas were a bit damp smelling in places, but the room itself was very large and had been beautifully refurbished. We didn't use the onsen, but really appreciated the bath in our room with an exceptional view to the beach. The room was impeccably clean. Recommend that you include your meals in your stay here as there is nowhere else in the vicinity to eat, but also be aware that if you are not Japanese, the food is! The meals are very seafood heavy, which is to be expected as this area is famous for seafood. I found the food quality is fine, but they cater for big numbers so it was a bit flavourless compared to food we'd had elsewhere in Japan. The shuttle service is also a bonus, with the hotel shuttle travelling to and from the Shimoda station every half an hour for most of the day, great for a trip to do sightseeing for the day. All in all, this is a really nice hotel for a more traditional experience.

Me, my friend and our kids coming here at the end of summer vacation for last 4 years. We love how it clean, how people are working and helpful there, we love onsen, we like very much location very close to beach so your kids just few steps from ocean, area for kid’s fireworks with everything you need. We even don’t want try another place for stay lately…

The breakfast this year has become more meager…yeah.

The staff was so friendly & helpful. The view of Shirohama beach from our room was incredible. The onsen was amazing…especially loved the outside bath & liked all the products to sample in the bath area. The gift shop was very nice…with prices similar to near the train station. The hotel provides a shuttle to the main train station several times a day which makes it very convenient.

I wish there were more restaurants close by…even a ramen place would be nice.

As ignorant Americans who speak no Japanese the staff were incredibly helpful and patient. We relied on google translate for most of the difficult (translations) conversations during check-in. A wonderful employee spoke English assisted us with the majority of introductions. After a magnificent welcoming and introduction to the facilities we were given the utmost privacy. The staff allowed us last minute reservations for the esthetic room and the private onsen, both of which I highly recommend for couples. The standards male and female onsens we're incredible! The outdoor portion extends from under a cover allowing you to enjoy the weather and ocean sounds while relaxing. It was a great trip within the hotel compound!

The time of year we were able to travel was during off-season for the area. This slower season meant some of the amenities were closed, obviously not the hotel's fault but for future travellers plan accordingly.

Very large room with a bath overlooking white sand beach.You can soak in the tub and watch the surfers. Dinner was awesome - abalone, fish,sashimi etc.

It was characterful and charming from the first moment. The pools and onsen were awesome and the location overlooking the beach was great. The staff were friendly and helpful and the shuttle bus was great. The laundry was also helpful given we are travelling around.

The breakfast wasn’t tasty. There were tables by the window overlooking the pool and we thought we could at least eat our breakfast there, but it wasn’t allowed. The breakfast area looks like an old conference hall.

The staff and service were exceptional. Everyone at the front desk went above and beyond to make sure our needs were met. Also the proximity to such an excellent beach was incredible.

I wish the pool could have stayed open later.

The location is really good! it’s right by Shirahama beach, which is one of the best beaches accessible from Tokyo. the room was spacious and quite comfortable.

the pool was dirty, with bugs inside. as it was open for swimming - nothing indicated otherwise at least - I would expect a minimum level of cleanliness. very limited food options for breakfast.

The property is located right in front of Shirahama beach, check in was very smooth and they allowed us to put our bags into the storage room before check-in time to enjoy the beach. The staff is incredibly friendly and can provide information in English if needed. There is a small restaurant inside the building which was very tasty.
