Beautiful place in an area not too close to the centre but very well connected with several train stations between 3 and 15 minutes away on foot. Lovely staff and beautiful private baths. We didn't see the public baths.

Some of the baths didn't seem to be in full working order (but we still enjoyed them!). It's a pity that breakfast wasn't fully buffet but also had some staples that were brought to your table everyday and if you didn't like them they were wasted. I suppose they are standard japanese breakfast dishes and most people would eat them but we didn't enjoy all of them and it's a shame they went to waste.

The check experience was great. The staff were friendly and did everything they could to communicate with us and make us feel comfortable. The Onsens were beautiful and clean. The late night ramen was a happy surprise. I would come back and stay in an instances.

They’re really wasn’t much I didn’t like. Even though there was a language barrier we were able to understand each other. I would have been nice to have a form that just explains the Onsen experience for foreigners. I had done some research on the subject but my friend was alil confused but all in all it was absolutely lovely hotel, wonderful staff and fantastic experience.

It is very convenient to ride the train to the town and nice walking distance to the bamboo forest and shopping streets. Breakfast is awesome and onsen is superb.

Ramen was nice but served too late at 10:30 pm. We didn't make it. Checkin is a little bit too long. We dropped off the luggages in the morning and left for bamboo forest sighseeing. Came back after 3 pm to get our room key. Then, the front desk started asking us to take shoes off and stored them in shoe boxes and also yukata pickup for onsen later. I felt it was not necessary to do the yukata process since we will not go onsen right away. We could just put the shoes away and checked in our room and then come back to pick up yukata when we are ready for onsen. There are already yukata inside the room and we really didn't need them. Anyway.

Like many have mentioned, this ryokan is quite commercialised. Therefore, it comes with all the pros of commercialisation. Unlike traditional ryokans, Kadensho comes equipped with your private shower, so there is no need to bathe with strangers if you don't want to. The staff seems quite international, and the prevalence and proficiency of English (and other languages too!) are also much higher than traditional ones. That said, it is still a ryokan, and the premises is beautiful. There are five private baths, one of which has a tub that is only big enough for one person.

The very expensive dinner was quite disappointed, especially the main course (tofu soup that was tasteless, with the only meat two pieces of chicken that have sinews). Tempura is indeed free flow, but you won't know unless you ask for it, as the written instructions did not mention it at all. For breakfast, this is honestly the first time I had so many bones in my salmon. Else, it was much better than dinner.

The location is amazing for anyone taking a train into the area. You walk out of the train station and it is right there. We liked the onsen, but the queue for getting into them is a bit confusing. Our friend was nervous about doing a public onsen, so this was a great alternative to let her have the experience. We got a birthday cake delivered to our room and they made that easy. They also had yummy treats near the baths and hot or iced drink machines.

I would have liked to know how people were waiting for the rooms. Some people would wait on the benches in front of a room, but they would go into any of the baths and then other people would wait on the bench for the bath they wanted to go into. It made it hard to understand when your turn was since people were just sitting all over.

Conveniently located in front of the train station and a convenient store. A 20+ min stroll to the main tourist streets and Arashiyama bamboo forest. There were 5 private onsen and a public one. Each of the 5 private onsen are different. There were free ice-cream from 3pm-midnight, yakult drink in the morning and some tea-making thing from 3-6pm. Free Ramen served from 10.30-11.30pm but be early for it cause there’s limited dining space. Hotel breakfast was excellent and a highlight! Also make sure to book dinner at hotel in advance, and if you didn’t manage to like me, settle your dinner before 6pm as surrounding restaurants seem to close early.

A little dated but well maintained. Expensive too.

Perfect located for all attractions in Arashiyama. Lovely breakfast and dinner, Nice private onsen of which you should go for 4 and 5 as they are bigger and have reasonable open air. Group Onsen is beautiful and worth a visit. Very authentic place where we had about 90% japanese guests what we enjoyed.

Waiting times at breakfast as number of guests exeeds tables by far. Waiting up to 30 min is inacceptable for the very high price (even with 50% off).

Great ryokan style experience with very warm and friendly staff (front desk and restaurant staff were wonderful!!). They were steps ahead knowing what guests needed (even offering candies to beat heatstroke! And also had signs reminding guests of essentials to bring when heading out). Rooms were nice and spacious. Amenities were good and the kaiseki dinner was a fantastic experience. Location was also superb being right in front of the metro station. Also the key sightseeing areas were walkable from the hotel and very convenient. They also accommodated our luggage before and after check in as we still wanted to go around. Absolutely enjoyable stay!

Nothing really. The private onsen/baths were nice bec there were 5 of them. Although because of the hot weather we couldn’t stay long in the baths, i imagine it would be better to visit again during spring and winter to experience this better. No complaints from us about this property!

Great breakfast spread. Alot of effort was put into the preparation. Free Ramen supper was super. Onsen offered a variety of body products and scrubs. Very good. The free tea and daily wagashi at the reception was of very good quality. Free coffee, yakult and ice cream outside the onsen was a great bonus. There was a wide choice of yukata selection. The tatami floor was great for walking around barefoot and the lift floor was heated!

Therr was a generator sound whirling at the backfround in one of the rooms.

Everything was great: a fantastic little getaway from Kyoto. Staff was super friendly; food provided was excellent - great intro to authentic Japanese food; and the proximity to nearby sights was just a stone's throw away. Also to note is that there are a public onsen; private onsen baths that you can line up for in the lobby; and there are rooms with you in-room onsen. Great choice for people with tattoos.

one of the beds in our room was extremely uncomfortable: by the time we found out it was too late to say anything so it's nothing of the hotel's fault.
