The property is comfortable, clean, and globally well organized. I liked the bike sharing option and the hot bath, even though it didn’t have a view on the garden

Air conditioning is very very noisy, it was difficult to sleep. The property is very far from the city center, it takes around 1h to go there. And the hostel closes at 23:30 so forget about staying out late… Also I forgot an item there and apparently it’s impossible for the staff to organize a delivery - which seems to me a pretty basic service (I was of course paying for it)

Kyoto Youth Hostel provided a pleasant stay with a welcoming atmosphere, but there are a few things to consider before booking. Location: The hostel is a bit far from the train station, requiring a 15-20 minute walk. While the walk is scenic and gives you a chance to explore the area, it may not be ideal for travelers with heavy luggage or tight schedules. However, once you’re there, it’s a peaceful and relaxing spot to unwind. Facilities: The facilities were great—clean rooms, comfortable beds, and cozy common areas. The Wi-Fi worked well, and having access to laundry facilities was super convenient for a longer stay. Staff: The staff were very friendly and helpful, offering tips on nearby attractions and making sure everything was taken care of during our stay. Atmosphere: The hostel has a welcoming and community-oriented vibe. It’s a great place to meet other travelers while also having enough privacy when needed. Overall, Kyoto Youth Hostel is a good choice if you don’t mind the walk from the station. The comfort, cleanliness, and friendly staff make up for the distance.

Location is far from the major attractions.

I was initially hesitant about staying at Kyoto Utano Youth Hostel because of its distance from the city, but I'm so glad I didn’t cancel! There's a super convenient bus (#26) that goes directly from Kyoto Station to the hostel, which made traveling easy. My stay was incredibly pleasant. I loved how the lavatory is separated from the toilet – the lavatory is spacious, with a dry makeup area, and everything was spotless. The cleanliness extends throughout the entire hostel, including the toilets and bunk beds. I was lucky enough to get a lower bunk in the corner with a window – such a lovely surprise! The building is spacious, clean, and set in a peaceful natural environment. The layout is thoughtfully designed to accommodate guests smoothly without feeling crowded, even when fully booked. The public hot tub with all the provided amenities was such a relaxing touch! Plus, the meals available for purchase were fantastic and super convenient since the hostel is far from convenience stores. The staff were always friendly and eager to help, making me feel welcome as a tourist. This hostel exceeded my expectations with its excellent facilities, cleanliness, and overall atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kyoto!

Nothing!!!

I’ll try to be as informative as possible, although, I only stayed there for one night. 1) Facilities: - Facilities are available as you need: public bath, bathroom, self-cooking area, and dining hall. They are all clean, and easy to use. - They will provide you with a bedsheet, blanket layer, and pillow sheet to set up your bed DIY. You’ll need to rent a yukata (¥200) and a towel (¥100). - Room was quite big with two wooden double deckers. There is also a locker (idk how to say the size, but you can hang your clothes, and keep your shoes inside). There is also a sofa and small table with four stools. Room flip-flop is also provided. - At the lobby, there are tables for you to do any works. They even have board games for social activities. 2) Staff: - Staff is friendly, helpful, and resourceful. They are able to speak a good English. 3) Food: - You can opt for dinner and breakfast, depending on their menu of that day. Dinner was okay, I cannot complain. But I love the breakfast options.

1) Location: - Please bear in mind that this is in Utano, which is far away from Kyoto Station, and even Arashiyama. I would say it’s a bit inconvenient if you use public transport, because it took me an hour to take the buses from Heian Jingu. I will also have to walk 30 minutes to a nearby bus that goes to Arashiyama (not that I entirely hate the walk, I enjoy it tho). Cars would be easier to go there. - although to be fair, they do provide rental bikes, so you can make use of that. - the surrounding can be quiet and dark, with dim street lights 2) Room sharing - Not the staff’s fault of course, but if this is your first time doing hostel, please consider that you’ll potentially be with roommates that may snore very loud.

The hostel was really big and nice. The bed was also spacious and clean. Given its price, it's really a nice place. The location is only convenient if you are planning to visit Arashiyama area and kinkaku-ji. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful too

Aside from the disadvantages that come in staying at a hostel, I would say maybe the location if you are planning to head down in the kyoto region for other attractions. Also, there is only 1 shower room, so it might be a bit crowded? But there is also a big public japanese style bath for those who are interested in it!

Facilities were very clean, cozy, and simple design, perfect for a hostel-type stay. Breakfast service was convenient, simple, and tasty. The inside garden, hammocks, and location were great, further from Kyoto centre, but in a picturesque area and close to Ninnaji, Arashiyama, Ryoanji and Kinkakuji. However, it gets really silent after 10 pm, so it is perfect for those who want to relax and sleep, perfect for single travelers for short stays. Staff was friendly, you can also buy Kyoto day bus/metro pass from the reception.

They do not have wifi. They offer Kyoto city free wifi, but honestly, it disconnects every 3 minutes (I counted), and you have to repeat the login procedure over and over and over... It was enough to communicate shortly with my family, but not enough to watch videos and definitely not for work. Be careful those who plan on working remotely. You should bring your own data.

The staff were super helpful, patient and accommodating when my plans went wry. It was a perfect haven for rest between busy days. It's location is pristine, close to the rural edge of town and beautiful ponds/mountains/forests. I enjoyed hiring the bicycle and would recommend it for the closer attractions. The breakfast was good too.

Accessing the hostel later at night was difficult. Firstly, no public transport access after 9:30/10pm from central Kyoto made it a pain or very expensive (taxi) to return home if dinner or drinks went beyond that time. They also lock the front door after 11:30pm, though they helped me to enter when I notified them of my later return..

It's a youth hostel with lots of visitors. They have lovely shared hot baths, onsen-style. Good location for Arashiyama Bamboo forest by bus. Staff were really helpful. Good place to meet other travellers from across the world.

It's quite far out of town on the bus. We had loads of luggage that didn't make us popular with the other passengers in the bus! Maybe consider a taxi from town. Eating was in a shared canteen where you can get dinner or breakfast - we tried to get dinner but this was not available for us, so we ended trying to order out which was not a great success. You might want to bring your own food if arriving in the evening. We tried to hire bikes here but the youth hostel ones had gone by 9am and the private hire ones required you to download an app which didn't work on the app store for UK phones.

Great location! Really enjoyed my stay in a more rural Japan. The place is a bit far away from downtown, but it’s still just 1 bus (30 min approximately). Beds are nice, staff too. They have hammocks on small balconies you can use to relax, really enjoyed those. They have a small communal spa (onsen style) that was really nice. If those aren’t your style, regular showers are available too.

Even though it is called youth hostel, don’t confuse it with a party like hostal. There is a curfew at 11.30 (can’t enter the building after that, so if you wanna party in Kyoto prepare to stay out till 5.40 am lol)

A wonderful stay! The rooms were clean and tidy, the hostel itself felt like a retreat located outside of the main area of Kyoto, which was a lovely experience, just be prepared for the travel back into the central part of the city. Which is so easy because it’s located by a bus stop! Staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast is an extra ¥800 was lovely such a great variety of food and filling. Room gives you a locker which is great, drying racks and curtain on bed for privacy.

Check out was a bit early, 10am :( Remember to have cash for the ¥200 hostel tax And there is a curfew so be prepared with all your stuff food ect inside before 11pm
