We had a wonderful experience at Towa Ryokan. Every one of the staff was phenomenally nice, thoughtful, so helpful, and went above and beyond to attend to all of our needs. We had the five course (very delicious) keisaki dinner in our room and breakfast each morning in the basement restaurant. All of the food was delicious and such a unique experience that we will never forget. We stayed in a traditional Japanese style room and enjoyed all the space that it provided. We very highly recommend Towa Ryokan for a traditional Japanese stay.

Everything was wonderful! We were so sad to leave!

What a wonderful homebase in Kyoto! We were met with a welcome cup of tea and small suite. The location is an easy walk from the station so getting around Kyoto was quite easy. The rooms are spotless and the.furo bath in the basement is lovely. The room also had its own full bath. If you are planning to go and want to eat in, you need to reserve dinner, a minimum of three days in advance. However, there are many good restaurants nearby. The hotel has a sustainability program that is admirable. The breakfast is delightful, both Japanese or a light granola western breakfast are available. The location is very quiet and the rooms are well insulated from noise. However, there is no view.

This place really exceeded my expectations. It was super conveniently located, near Kyoto station, but still had a very traditional ryokan feeling to it. The staff were excellent, very friendly and considerate. I also liked the aesthetic of the place. The breakfast was excellent too, a filling traditional salty Japanese breakfast, with the menu changing slightly every day. My travel companion is vegan and she thought the breakfast they made her was really great. I think it was definitely a strong point too, since some places don't offer good vegan alternatives. I think this place is definitely worth it, and I thought it was very good value for money. Unfortunately we didn't have time to try out the public bath house. I also think the photos listed at booking.com show off the charm of the place enough.

The best thing in this hotel is the staff. They are absolutely fantastic and Nao is out of this world. I just want to come again to visit her. We stayed in a Japanese style room and was what we expected , although I thought it would be a bit bigger since it was 5 of us, pretty tight. Hotel is dated but very clean. The breakfast is an amazing traditional Japanese breakfast and they have an alternative in case you don't want that. It has a great location , easy access to train and bus and plenty of good restaurants around. The onsen is in the basement but amazing, not private though. However, I was the only one there when using it.

Fantastic staff (English was good), fantastic breakfast, fantastic room and public onsen was available to use. Great decor, aesthetics were beautiful. Really appreciated the aesthetic, the welcoming staff and the accommodations the staff gave, especially as we had come in early and soaking wet from the rain (they gave us warm tea and towels to warm up, and even though we were hours early, the room was prepared already).

The location was a bit out of the way and the inn itself was a bit hidden. Thankfully they have a bright sign to signify where they are so it was easy to find.

Located in the quite area around the residence. Daily housekeeping and polite staff here. Spacious rooms too. Staff here speaks decent english so you’ll be fine.

Pillow is stiff which is expected and mentioned on their info and part of the experience staying in a ryokan but damn it’s hard to fall asleep. I booked 4 nights here with breakfast but in the last day of my stay I got told that I don’t have breakfast on the last day. I cannot get explanation on this due to language barrier but may someone who stayed here with the same experience can answer this for me. I find it unfair since I paid the same amount until the end of my stay.

Towa was a very special experience! If you are looking to see what it’s like to live in a traditional Japanese house - you won’t be disappointed. The rooms are a good size and have everything you need. But it was the welcoming staff that absolutely made my stay - I had a medical issue during my trip and they referred me to a clinic and even called and inquired if I could go there. You will find wonderful compliments in your room that will add to your experience. My absolute highlight is the traditional breakfast - please get it at least once. It’s so delicious and very special. But be prepared - it’s a lot of food!

Check-out is at 10 which is a little bit too early

This was our favorite ryokan. The staff was wonderfully friendly, the room clean, the onzen lovely. One thing that really stood out was the breakfast. The food was fresh and clearly hand-made on the spot. We got to enjoy it for two times and were delighted to see that each day there were slight differences such as soft-boiled egg vs. omelet, salmon vs. mackerel, silken tofu vs. firm. This was by far and away the best breakfast we had on our trip and superior to some more expensive places. We would go back for sure and can highly recommend this lovely inn.

The members of staff are extremely polite and attentive. They noticed my bedding preference during housekeeping and laid the bed the way I preferred the following night. The breakfast is delicious and beautifully plated. The public bath is small but mostly empty after 9 when I used it, a really nice soak after a day's worth of walking. The ryokan is an easy 10-15 walk to the Kyoto Station with 7-11 and Lawsons along the way.

The heater was kinda loud.

Placed in a very quiet street, almost hard to find. Impeccably clean, exceptionally courteous staff, great Japanese breakfast. Spacious room, great futons, very nice tatamis. The ofuro (Japanese bath) in the basement was also impeccable, great to relax after a day in Kyoto. Numerous restaurants in the neighbourhood, from Kobe beef to omuraisu, in all price ranges. Convenience stores a few minutes away. Since it is relatively small, taxi drivers will probably not know the place by name, but showing them a map (or telling them where it is in Japanese) will get you there. An oasis in Kyoto.
