Absolutely lovely hotel. Beautiful, helpful and efficient staff made the stay so smooth and restful. Huge room. Wonderful food. The most amazing view over Nagasaki and its harbour from the sitting area in our room. Loved it. Also great minibus service to and from hotel to train station (central area); the drivers are amazing. The hill is really something else! Use of onsen at next door sister hotel was very welcome. The onsen at Koyotei is nice and clean but a little small.

Initially we were a bit put off by the massively steep hill upon which these hotels are perched (and a bit scared after driving up it!) as we thought it would be too hard to get around. The minibus service was GREAT though and the view makes the hill absolutely worth it. We walked down to the harbour a couple of times and it's a fascinating crawl - winding down the lanes and staircases through the houses. Didn't walk back up but certainly it is possible. Easy to get taxis back after a late night, and they're cheap.

A visit to Nisshokan Bettei Koyotei is like a step back to gentle and easy days. Absolutely 1st rate staff made everything about my stay enjoyable and relaxing. It was obvious they prepared well, learned who we were and what we liked. I felt valued, pampered, and relaxed. There is no better location in Nagasaki. What a view!

This is an older hotel and feels a little dated. It was easy for our large picture window to fog up. The walk to the sento bath feels like a trek. Also, it is so far up the mountain that you cannot walk to this hotel. A taxi/shuttle ride is an adventure as well. I don't know how they make it up the final drive-way. so steep!

The property is a traditional Japanese Koyotei situated about a 10 minute bus ride on the northeast of Nagasaki station. The bus is provided by the hotel as a complimentary service and is very convenient. The property itself is very peaceful and when I was there, it attracted many domestic Japanese tourists. Something which I prefer to see as I like to ingrain myself into the culture. A very beautiful culture indeed. At other hotels I have been to in Japan the guests can be primarily foreign. The public baths were exquisite as well. The large bath includes a sauna. Be warned, this traditional Japanese hotel does not cater to western needs in terms of the temperature of the sauna and baths. Unlike other Koyotei, these baths are HOT. But I encourage you to try them. The breakfast was exquisite. The arrangement of the bento boxes, the variety, and the staff was all very well thought out. Thank you for the stay.

In my room there were a few bugs. Not the annoying type but they were just there. Some were like butterflies and were quite pretty.

This ryokan is about as fancy as you can get. It is not in town and required a taxi or shuttle to get there; fortunately they provide a free shuttle but it's on a schedule. Because it's on a hill above the city, it's peaceful and the view is fantastic. The service was friendly and helpful and they spoke English. Signs and information were in English. The room rate included meals for which this ryokan is well known. The meals were exquisite, traditional food artistically prepared. We didn't try the public bath, but it looked clean and was empty. In the waiting area for the public bath, there were massage chairs and foot massage machines that were wonderful after a day of walking around the city. The room had a soaking tub we enjoyed. We felt pampered.

Some people might not like the location but we found it easy to get to the city for sightseeing.

This hotel is a little out of the way, but really worth it for the view. It's relaxing to see Nagasaki from above at different times of day. The staff were so friendly and always smiling and greeting guests, even giving us big waves as the station shuttle departed. I recommend taking advantage of the shuttle bus because while the city bus gets near the hotel, it's a steep mountain and the remaining walk is quite intense. The included breakfast was high quality.

Location was beautiful, you could argue you get the same reverse view of Mt. Inasa since you are directly across the valley. Staff was super friendly, we wanted to go to Nagasaki bio park, and they went above and beyond and helped us print out a bus schedule and station map to make sure we made it Facilities were great, the onsen(s) were super relaxing. Breakfast every morning was delicious for a traditional Japanese style Shuttle bus was extremely reliable and accurate on timing every day.

Not anything that is a deal breaker at all. But you do share the outdoor onsen with Nisshokan hotel next door (they are part of the same hotel group I believe). Those that are from Nisshokan are given yellow towels while Koyotei was given white to distinguish guests. I will say the indoor onsen may be a bit small (6 wash stations vs 10+) so going to the outdoor one is definitely worth it, unsure how busy it gets but I would imagine may be pretty packed during busy season from both hotels

The massage chairsssss!! They were great and free! Staff were nice. Good experience of staying in a ryokan. Great view of Nagasaki from the bedroom. Good baths. The hotel provides a shuttle bus to/ from Nagasaki station. Breakfast was traditional japanese only, but the staff were kind enough to get us bread upon request.

The location. Be advised that altough it is not that far from the Nagasaki station, it is an uphill climb. Really not a good option to do by walk. The hotel was quite old and in need of maintenance.

This is a really beautiful Japanese style hotel. The view of the city and harbour is spectacular. The staff is lovely. There a shuttles to take you from Nagasaki Station to the hotel and back. Breakfast is abundant.

It wasn’t a problem for us, but this property is not completely accessible. There isn’t an elevator or escalator and you need to go up and down via the stairs.

Lovely Japanese style hotel with excellent and friendly staff. Excellent onsen. Amazing views across Nagasaki. Shuttle bus from station made location more practical.

Didn't realise that there is no on site restuarant. If you didn't order food before stay which was served in room, had to go down hill to central Nagasaki.
