The staff were great. In particular Marwuan (just guessing how to spell his name) always had time and a smile for us, and Mahammad gave us more advice than we knew what to do with! The pool is perfect for keeping cool on a hot day or warm evening, and for soaking your souk-weary feet. The whole riad is wonderfully quiet compared to the bustling streets outside which makes for good sleep or afternoon naps.

There was a bit of drain smell in the bathroom, but the housekeeping did us the favour of leaving the extractor fan running when we were out. Other than that, it's hard to fault it. Perhaps the breakfast was _too_ big? We could never finish it all. The pool was a little dusty, but Marrakech is pretty dusty, so cleaning it must be a neverending task!

The Riad is beautiful & traditional and we really loved our stay. Mohamed, Said & Marounae were very kind & helpful and they went out of their way to make our trip special. We loved drinking tea & playing card games with them, learning about the Moroccan cultures & they also made my friends birthday very special. As a travel agent I visit many places around the world and stay in different types of accommodation. Astra Damus is simple but very unique & in the words of Said “welcome home”, that’s exactly how it felt every day when we returned. I can’t recommend this place enough. Great location, it is quiet despite being in the centre, the breakfast is good and the staff are amazing. Love Kirsty & Ruvimbo xx

We loved everything

The riad was very comfortable and clean. The staff was amazing, kind, and courteous! Said stayed up til 2:00ish am to receive us when it took us three hours to clear custom! He even helped to get us the mint tea when we weren't familiar with the directions! Mohammed took care of the ride for us to the airport and printed our boarding passes! He replied to my text messages in a prompt fashion. The riad is conveniently located near the Medina and other attractions! Great value for what we paid. Overall, we felt at ease! Astra Damus Hotel is a lovely and homey Riad right in the middle of Marrakech’s Medina. Every detail inside is just beautiful. But the most impressive is how we were received by Said and Marouane. They treated us like family, made us feel special and welcomed. They even prepare a surprise for my daughter for her 19th birthday because I mentioned that this trip was her birthday present when we arrived (although her birthday was during Summer!). They borrowed us local cash when we arrived, they went with us - early morning - to our pickup point for our trip to Ouzoud waterfalls. They care about their guests in the sweetest way! Totally recommend

From the start, communication with the hotel was quick and easy. They arranged a taxi to collect us at the airport and someone met us where the taxi stopped to walk us to the riad, which made the journey stressless. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay special; they were extremely accommodating made some excellent recommendations. Mohammed in particular was super friendly and helpful and even pulled some strings to get us a dinner reservation at a fully booked restaurant. The breakfast varied every day and was very good and the location of the hotel was excellent - central and a short walking distance from all the sites and souks. The room was lovely and the bed comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.

The rooms on the ground floor opened directly onto the main courtyard and I felt like they didn’t offer as much privacy as the ones on the other floors. Next time I would request a room on a higher floor.

The riad was absolutely lovely and it looked just like the photos. Perfect central location. The roof terrace was gorgeous. We were served a tasty and generous breakfast every day including breads, pastries, pancakes, fruit, yoghurts, coffee and mint tea. The staff were all lovely too, kind and helpful. Clean and very quiet bedroom with comfortable, spacious beds, great air conditioning - we all slept so well! When we hung out at the riad, we were offered free mint tea too which was very sweet. Used the plunge pool on a hot afternoon which was great (when we mentioned that we planned to use it, they cleaned it for us especially). Very smooth, stress-free airport transfers. Would highly recommend!

I would give this riad 10/10, apart from only one thing - which was that in our bedroom for three, our toilet and shower was only separated from the bedroom by a thin shower curtain - so there was zero privacy for the bathroom. As two of the three of us were afflicted by poorly stomachs (possibly a dodgy meal on day one), this would have been pretty awful as there was effectively zero separation between the toilet and the beds - HOWEVER, we were saved by a communal toilet, with a lockable solid door, in the main lobby. This was a godsend (and unfortunately we spent more time than we would have wanted in there!)! If our room hadn't happened to be right next to this external toilet, it would have been a bit of a nightmare!

Many thanks to the hosts in the Riad, Said, Marouane, and Mohamed, for their warmth and hospitality. They were always ready to help, making us feel truly welcome during our stay. The riad had an incredible atmosphere, and the terrace was simply beautiful. Everything was clean and organized, and the Moroccan breakfast was delicious—far exceeding our expectations and even better than what we experienced at other riads. We felt very well cared for in this riad, and the tea was absolutely fantastic. Said speaks excellent German, so if anyone has difficulty with English, he can explain everything clearly. We had a fantastic time at the Astra Damus Hotel. The staff is absolutely amazing, they pick you up, tell you all the best spots in the city, help you arrange excursions and transportation and have an incredible eye for details. The hotel itself is in a great location bit a bit hidden so it was great that we were picked up upon arrival. The hotel is beautiful and rooms are very beautifully designed and you will have every comfort you need. As it was our honeymoon they prepared us a beautiful welcome which we appreciated a lot. We will definitely stay in this rihad again whenever we come back to Marrakech.

If you’re looking for a riad to stay at, this is the dream place. This riad gives you a real taste of Marrakesh, giving you an authentic experience. The architecture is beautiful, location is in close proximity to the main souk (Jemma El Fna) and the staff are phenomenal. The place looks exactly like the pictures. Leaving the riad today made me feel a little emotional. Genuinely felt like we were leaving our new family and home. We just want to say a big shout out to the staff- you were all amazing! Firstly we want to thank S’aid, always helpful and has the best manners in all of Marrakesh. He made sure we were always okay, always friendly and when I was feeling sick, he went out his way to get me some soup. Nazha is such a sweetheart. She is a great cook and superrrr warm and friendly too. Always had a smile on her face in the morning and made us the best breakfast (pancakes, omelette, msemen, etc). Thanks for the soup!! Mohamed was also great - very knowledgeable of the area and general traditions of each city in Morocco. He was always happy to answer any questions we had, and always with a smile on his face. Best of luck with your future studies. Oumaima and Najma were also fantastic. They looked after the riad, making sure it always looked beautiful. Their hard work does not go unnoticed, the Riad was always peaceful and tidy. Lastly, big thank you to Zakaria, the manager. Welcoming and always happy to help with our enquiries. We stayed in 2 different riads during our time in Marrakech, so we were able to make some clear comparisons. Riad Astra Damus was the cheaper one but by far the better one. PROS -The room was cleaned every day. -The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming which was by far its greatest strength. Zakariah greeted us with a comprehensive introduction to Marrakech and all it can offer. He invited us to eat with him and treated us like guests in his home. When we mentioned that we were looking for vegan baklava, he and the cook went out of their way to find us something. They surprised us with a biscuity pastry and didn't even charge for it. - Water, tea and coffee were complimentary throughout our stay. Having water bottles whenever we wanted was just such a simple thing that made our stay so much less stressful. -The terrace was a lovely place to relax and eat breakfast with a small pool. - we were initially on the same floor as some noisy occupants. Zakariah very kindly gave us another room straight away. - Breakfast was different every day and they made an excellent effort with our vegan dietary requirements. We were truly grateful for this. The cook was so lovely and motherly. - there was a resident cat who was also absolutely gorgeous and very friendly!!! -the tiled decor of the riad is stunning. Thank you Zakariah and the team for vastly improving our experience of Marrakesh.

CONS - the rooms were a little run down in places and could do with a some refurbishing. Particularly the bathroom. - it was quite noisy. You can hear people talking as it echoes a lot. You also get woken by the call to prayer every morning at 6 as it's very close to a mosque. - the pool should be cleaned more regularly. The sun lounging area needs some TLC too.
