The room was exactly as it was described and bigger. Extra clean and comfortable. Decor was simple, elegant and warm. It has two plants, and enough to be comfortable without taking unnecessary room away. There were sweets and good wine as courtesy. Smart TV with internet, premium YouTube and the possibility to connect your Netflix, Disney+, etc to it. Now the host, he was super!! Very attentive, flexible and kind. He told us of a very good places to go. Finally, the location. 10-15 mins walk from Central station, downtown, music center, and 5 minutes walk from main museum. The location was simply perfect.

Nothing I can think about.

This is in just a lovely part of town, off the tourist trail, a long way from those things that, unfortunately, make Amsterdam a haven for groups of slightly debauched looking young men, yet only a couple of bus stops (or a 20 minute walk - the longer more picturesque way) from Central Station and indeed a nice walk into the centre by quiet roads, or a 14 tram from five minutes away. The house is modern, but in the manner of a typical small canal house, on what is still a working canal with lifting bridges. It has a lot of lovely bars and restaurants nearby and it's great not having to go into town in the evening with all its awfulness. We were concerned the room might be noisy, but with the window open on a Friday and a Saturday night there was almost no traffic noise and only the odd conversation from young people wending their way home. The room was very comfortable and clean; we were on the first floor with a big window looking over the canal. It really is a charming place. There was a good coffee maker, mineral water and even a half bottle of wine provided gratis.

Nothing really. A second bedside table would help though.

Full Disclosure - I am not rating the Canal House Inn. The owner/manager(?) offered me a free upgrade to another property - an apartment overlooking a canal, close to the city center. It was amazing, and if you get a similar offer, I suggest you take it! Also, Christian - who was my contact (I think the manager, not the owner) was super responsive.

Nothing. It was great! 3rd floor, so some stairs, but they were manageable, and Christian helped with the bags. It was not clear how to get the washer/dryer to just run a dry cycle, (my dutch is non-existent) but it was great to have to do some luandry.

There was a technical error in the booking process and once we've completed it the owners, Christian, advised us it was double booked and our reservation is cancelled. He then immediately offered to move us to another apartment which was larger, better located and a great solution to the problem. Christian simply said yes to any request we had, including allowing us to checkout very late at the last day, which was superb. So while we did not get to see the Canal house our experience was excellent.

Greeted personally by Christian, and what a fabulous host he is! The room was absolutely spotless and the location perfect. We received information on the best places to visit and eat and I have to say the advice was spot on. We actually arrived a little earlier than planned but that wasn’t a problem at all. Christian took our bags in and directed us to a lovely cafe for a much needed coffee. The room was spotless, and as an extra special touch we had a small bottle of red together with 2 ice cold bottles of water. I genuinely have only good things to say and I won’t hesitate to recommend the accommodation and location.

The Canal House Inn is a treasure. Impeccably clean, canal views, quiet, Nespresso, awesome restaurants nearby, comfortable bed, and Chris is highly responsive and accommodating. Little to no street noise, beautiful mornings watching the water traffic, a delightful cafe just across the bridge. It was great to be in this location which is in city center but heading into a quieter neighborhood, and get a feel for the authentic pace of the city. The stairs are steep everywhere in Amsterdam and this is no exception, and we quickly adapted. We found a preferred route into downtown past the Rembrandt House Museum (a must see). We were often out for the day exploring, and would aim to be back around 5:30/6pm to get ready and pick a local restaurant. Chris has a lovely review of each in the guide in the room and spoke with us about them. The cuisine wound up being a highlight from our trip which was unexpected and welcomed (we’re big into seafood and international dishes, and the Dutch seem to be too). The three closest attractions: the Maritime Museum (a strikingly beautiful museum - and you can see the CHI from inside), the Botanical gardens (so relaxing and warm if the weather is cold or rainy - also, butterflies!), and Rembrandt House (phenomenal - the audio tour is included and well done) are brief walks. To/from Central Station is actually an easy walk (15’ walk straight across), but the 22 or 48 (I think) buses stop right at the top of the canal. And if we were tired or the weather called for it, we would hop in a trolley/tram from wherever we were looking for a stop near the botanical gardens (14 line I think) and then it’s ~4 minute walk back to the Inn, past a couple cafes should you need a half pint of local beer along the way. Side note: You can pop on and pay as you enter public transport in Amsterdam. I hope to come back for another stay and have bookmarked this fantastic Inn.

Christian was the host par excellence. Even though he was leaving on holidays the day after our arrival, he made a point of spending an hour with us describing the neighbourhood and giving us tips on « best of » of all kinds. For a cherry on the sundae, he even called us from the airport the next morning just to check if everything was alright. His colleague, partner and replacement, Carlos was equally kind, effective and serviable.

I would have liked a bed which could be used from both sides

Perfect location, wonderful host, and fully equipped with everything a traveller may need. Although there were some road closures at the time of my visit and the bridge over the canal was being replaced, this spot was the perfect place to stay. Without knowing, I picked a spot very close to where my friends live, and following the host's recommendations, I was able to visit a bunch of really good spots for breakfast and lunch. I'd go with an option like this over a random hotel any time!

The room (Number 2) overlooked the beautiful canal (despite the bridge works currently in progress) and we loved watching the boats, the bridge going up & down and people watching. Christian our host was outstanding as he opened the door as soon as we arrived at 7pm ish, took our bags up 2 flights of stairs and was very knowledgeable as to local bars, supermarket etc. He helped with our bicycle security as we had cycled from the Southampton in the UK. He explained where the secure bike park was but we decided not to use it as not close by. We used the canal railing to padlock our bicycles and wheels to it. The room had a kettle and fridge. The shower was very good and comfortable bed. We had door entry codes which made access easy.

Sadly no bicycle secure parking at the accommodation but Christian warned us of this at the booking stage. He was very kind and let us use his electronic bicycle alarm (which was very good). Our bicycles did not get stolen which was good!
