I haven't stayed in a hostel for a while so I was a bit nervous. Casa d'Alagoa was such a lovely stay. The receptionists were always helpful and friendly and the reception area is stocked with essentials (beer on tap)! There is a dinner and drinks every night which was a good way to meet other travellers. The location was great and in a pretty area of Faro. The beds were comfy and the curtain was great for privacy. It was all super clean and the bathrooms were nice too. I was able to leave my stuff in the room after check out and use all the common areas until i left which was a bonus. Loved the roof terrace!

The 6 person room was a little small for 6 people. I saw some of the other rooms and it was small in comparison. No air con, I think it might be a bit uncomfortable in the summer.

The hostel is fairly centrally located, a few minutes walk from the Old Town and a few more from the port where beachgoers can find the ferry to get there. The rooms are clean and comfortable, some of the best nights of sleep I've had anywhere. The beds have curtains so you can get some privacy if you want it. The bathrooms (especially the ones outside of the dorms) are clean and cleaned on a regular schedule. The staff are friendly and helpful and gave me some really good suggestions for restaurants and bars, so definitely do ask. They will also help you find/book a range of activities besides the ones that are hosted by Casa and their sister hostel, which happen daily. Nightly dinners and weekend pub crawls are a good way for solo travellers to meet fellow travellers. All that and the fairly active WhatsApp group chat means that you don't have to eat/do things alone unless you want to and I personally found it a nice mix of independence and sociability.

If I was being picky, I'd say that it'd be nice to have the option to have single gender dorms but that's definitely not a dealbreaker. I can understand what other travellers have said about the noise from the reception after 11PM but I personally didn't notice it much, was either out or too tuckered out to notice. Either way, I don't begrudge the staff for having a good time and, as with everything else, communication is key. If it bothers you, just politely ask for some quiet.

Great little hostel, the beds are comfy and the curtains are great for privacy. They host dinners and the rooftop is a great place to meet people if you are a solo traveller. I work remotely and the WiFi was good enough for calls and I had enough space to work comfortably. I returned to the hostel and would happily visit again.

The price of the dinner and drinks sold there is too high in comparison to what you would pay outside of the hostel and the bathrooms were a bit grubby but it wasnt a huge issue.

- amazing location - very central, 10 mins walk to the harbor/central market - outdoor spaces - my absolute favourite thing about this hostel. Just beautiful! - really spacious. Would recommend 12 bed dorm because it’s so big it really doesn’t feel crowded, plus mine had a balcony and 2 en suite bathrooms. I saw a couple of the 6 bed dorms (I think) and they looked fairly cramped. The shared spaces felt really spacious too, with lots of different terraces and places to sit. - Loved the curtains on the beds- added privacy and meant it was easier to sleep with people coming in and out.

- the 12-bed dorm was really noisy and very light too so if you’re a light sleeper this would be a problem - paying for towels - 5€ total, you get 2€ back for retuning the towel. Usually towels are included in hostels/hotels - you have to buy a padlock or bring your own lock to keep your stuff secure. There are drawers under each bunk but locks not included. Overall though would really recommend and would absolutely stay again. The hostel had a really nice vibe, it’s so big it feels really spacious /you don’t feel like you’re on top of other guests and it’s in a beautiful building in central Faro.

I stayed in a 6-bed female dorm first night, and in 4-bed mixed dorm the second. One of the best hostels I've been to. Many big spaces both inside and outside to rest, work or be social. Super super clean. Nice beds. And not at last exceptional staff: super helpful and friendly. Most impressive: I forgot a dress in my room, the girl in the reception connected me, short after and offered me to send it to desired address. Impressive. Also the staff was very helpful, when to book for second night. The different spacious common spaces gives a feeling of home, which for me was so precious after long travel time. I so appreciated the very comfy soffa. The location is also very good, close to anything. Also close to train and bus station.

In the 6-bed dorm, got way to hot in the night. Air conditioning would be a great improvement for those small rooms with so many people in it.

Beautiful, beautiful hostel exceeding all expectations. I had a nice room with en suite bathroom, the common areas were spacious and fresh for remote working, including the terrasses and rooftop. There were hostel activities for the guests everyday. It was easy to mingle and have a chill time in Faro. Location was also excellent and beautiful; great local traditional cafeteria just around the corner!

En suite bathroom could be cleaner, and no bathmat provided until requested. The main door needs to be opened manually by staff 24/7.

Clean, great staff, location awesome! Loved all the activities on offer. Great recommendations. Can virtually book anything at reception. Sunscreen is sold as well which is super convenient!

Very hot. Fans don’t reach all beds and with the door open to the balcony, the street and aeroplane noise is quite loud. Air conditioner would definitely make this stay more comfortable in summer. Sunscreen should also have 50+ as this is the recommended for fair skin tones.

The hostel was superb. The rooms were clean and had all the facilities one may need. The best thing was there was a mirror in the the room. The bathroom was very nice and beautiful. The hostel staff was very friendly and helpful. The hostel has many common areas where we can chill. A kitchen will all the appliances and free coffee and tea. The happy hour system was a cherry on top. The best thing was the dinners organized by the hostel.

Bathroom didn't have hot water. That was a mild inconvenience.

The property has real character. A beautiful staircase and lovely old windows. The staff are really nice and friendly and it’s a super easy check in. You arrive, they check your passport, take the 1.50 tourist tax and they give you a key. Way, way easier then the hostel i checked into the next day. Loved the curtain around the bed too. Gives you a real feeling of coziness at night.

No air con in the room, just one fan on the wall which doesn’t cool you when your curtain is closed around your bed. The shower/toilet had dirty water on the floor and no squeegee to clean it up so when you went to the toilet you had to step in it and go to bed with wet feet! What seemed to be animal hairs on the floor which got on everything.

Comfortable rooms, comfy bed, clean bathrooms and excellent facilities. Very central. Hostel organises a lot of activities that makes it very easy to meet people. Met a lot of nice people on the trip and everyone was very respectful.

Dorms could be a bit bigger because they are a bit tight for 6 people. Ours was without an aircon and for beginning of June was fine but cant imagine it being comfortable in the middle of summer.
