Staff were very efficient and helpful - thank you. The room was very good and had an excellent view. The breakfast and bar service were excellent. Choice at breakfast was particularly good and the bread and the cheeses outstanding. The hotel was a quiet and relaxing place to be and to stay in. Access by airport bus was fantastic and gave us really good service both arriving and departing. The sauna was greatly appreciated - a very valued service.

The indoor pool was crowded at different times with noisy and unhelpful children/family groups. Information on getting pool robes and slippers was gained only on request, and they took a day to be delivered to the room. The wardrobe door was sticking and not smooth to use. The bathroom sink had to be unblocked (this was done quickly).

The food is of a very good standard with plenty of variety - they laid on 2 special meals for Christmas Eve and day for over 350 people which were excellent. Room (suite) was large and spacious and great shower. Beds comfortable and adequate wardrobe and cupboard space. Staff all very helpful.

The claim is 5 star but it is lacking in certain things. Even though we had a suite there was no tea/coffee (€11.50 plus tip for one with room service!), no iron and ironing board, not even a pencil and paper by the phone for messages. No evening bed turn down which is 5 star service. Bedside clock would have been nice. You felt everything provided was at the minimum - i.e just 2 towels with no spares. There was no going the "extra mile"

Everting was perfect. I went to celebrate my birthday and the staff on breakfast did surprised me with a small cake and candle and them did sing a birthday to me, I didn’t expected nothing like that, them treated me like family after that them made another surprise, they knocked on my room to wish me a happy birthday with a bottle of champagne, they made my day very special. I loved everything and everyone at the hotel. The staff are really friendly and helpful them treat the guests with excellence and making the experience do memorable. I give 100 stars. This hotel inspired me to make my videos on YouTube where I will talk about the best hotels and experiences I have stayed in. I loved everything

Breakfast generally good . But no muesli or granola . No fish / smoked salmon etc . Coffee served from a machine where you join the queue ! Good coffee though . Location excellent . Easy walk into town . Brutalist architecture not to everyone’s taste but I loved it . Period Bauhaus style furniture in common parts are wonderful . Lobby area and restaurant space spacious and lovely outlook . Gardens and trees around pool area really beautiful . Staff excellent .

A little dated in places . Bedroom furniture looking a bit shabby . Carpets could do with an upgrade . No tea / coffee facilities in room . Bathroom cosmetics from a plastic plunge bottle . Sunbeds and parasols past their best . Some broken . The indoor pool / sauna area should be restful but they let kids bomb the water, scream and use the pool to like the public baths . So it’s not a calm spa experience . Beware if you’re in a room overlooking the casino sometimes they hold summer open air music festivals in the park and loud music is played until the early hours . Take ear plugs !

The hotel was in a good location with easy walking access to the town centre and amenities. The hotel was spacious with great facilities and lots of outside space, not common to all better hotels in Funchal. The hotel was modern, the rooms were spacious and the air conditioning was quieter than most hotels I have stayed in, meaning you could leave it on all night. The hotel staff also were happy to accommodate our request for a double bed and I mentioned we were celebrating our wedding anniversary during our stay at the hotel, they very thoughtfully gave us a bottle of bubbly, which was left in our room on our return to the hotel on the day of our anniversary. A great hotel all round and will definitely stay there again.

No major complaints or criticisms, other than there were a couple of minor repairs required, to the wardrobes and bathroom fittings. It would have also been nice if like the first day, small bottles of drinking water were provided each day.

Loungers need to be replaced

Nice location and garden around the hotel. The building spaces in the hotel are spacious. If there are a lot of guests, it's not a problem. The rooms are also spacious. The double bed is huge, the mattress is hard, those who like this will appreciate it. The infinity pool looks awesome and rooftop pool itself is a nice addition too.

The selection of breakfast is disappointing. If you stay longer, it could be boring and repetitive. For vegetarians/vegans likewise. The rooms are poorly insulated, so you can hear a lot of things. The bathtub is small. The staff is nice and helpful, but there are few of them. They are forgetful and slow due to overload. The a'la carte menu and anything from the bar is expensive. This wouldn't even be a big problem, because it's convenient to eat inside, but there are many restaurants and bars around and on the main road opposite, where you get faster service and more for your money. After a few days, it's worth exploring them.

I was in Funchal to run the local marathon on Sunday January 21st, and it was perfect - the setting, the race, the comfort, the location, the weather, the company and the hospitality of the hotel. Unfortunately Sundays dinner, at a restaurant uptown, was quite toxic and I had terrible night, vomiting, diharrea. Being unable to hydrate or digest food or rest after the big effort of a full marathon left me in very bad shape. Only after sunrise did things quiet down, thanks to medication, my partner's care and the "elimination" process (I apologize for being somewhat explicit). Luckily the hotel staff was very understanding allowing me to stay in bed until 2:30 PM (taking some tea and a banana), enjoying a late check out and the possibility to rest, so that when I left for the airport for the flight back home, although unable to run a short 5K, I could at least already sustain myself. OBRIGADO, we will come back next year, hopefully to this unique place.

Beautiful grounds and breakfast room. Lots of spacious public areas. The rooftop infinity pool had a great view and the complimentary robes and slippers were a great touch. Appreciated the option of an early breakfast on our sunrise hike day.

Our room was very dark and the furniture jammed occasionally. We were supposed to be in a triple room but in reality its a twin with a camp bed squished in. Midges around the main pool, and a very slow pool bar service with many drinks not available (smoothies, mocktails etc) was a bit disappointing for this standard of hotel. Watch out for the sea gulls!!

The big positive is the swimming pools - we used the indoor and outdoor ones for a pre-breakfast swim. The late check-out (1200) was helpful too. It's convenient for the port, but 10-15 minutes walk into town where most of the restaurants and bars are.

The room would feel more spacious without a ridiculously large bed - it was too big even for the sheet and quilt. But that's all part of the emphasis on ostentatious design that characterized the hotel. Some surfaces in the room hadn't been dusted in a while. No tea/coffee facilities in the room - just a warm bottle of water that would have been nicer if put in the room fridge instead.
