The uniform in tune with the era of the hotel as if you are in a movie set. it was unique. The staff were excellent mostly. Music everwhere, light piano at breakfast, welcome drink with FADO music. The spa room lovely unique for a city Hotel. We had a massage with Yavary, she was excellent.

There need to be more safety rules or notice around the numerous stair cases in the hotel. The stairs can be dangerous. My wife had a nasty fall on the stairs although the staff were nice but there was no medical assistance given and no incident report was done.

Palacio das Especiarias has an excellent location near all major attractions or just a quick UBER drive to any of them. There are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby as well as a lot of entertainment. Breakfast was fabulous and varied. The staff is really nice and helpful. I loved the sound of the piano and at times a duo with a violin while having breakfast.

The room/bathroom was a bit small and there is not much storage space. There are a lot of stairs to go from floor to floor as the elevator is tiny and not too practical. It was not a problem for us yet it could be for certain guests.

I have stayed here several times and love the property. They have a wonderful breakfast and have added wine & cheese at happy hour. The place is full of antiques giving the guest a very authentic Lisboa experience.

I got a bad room this time. I did not like that the bathroom was converted from a closet and the sink had to be in the room. It was very inconvenient especially since the light for the bathroom turned on a bright light in the room. Also the door to the bathroom did not close completely. Last, this property has no frequent stayers program to give any preference to returnees.

The staff went above and beyond. The location is perfect and the sound of piano through the day was charming.

Would’ve liked a Bloody Mary to drink. The sauna wasn’t hot enough. The photos of the rooms only show the biggest ones so that was a little misleading. Otherwise everything was great.

The public rooms were classy and stylish. Some of the things were quirky like the Chapel off the breakfast room and the quite scary 'Fado theatre' in the cellar (next to the well fitted out gym and barrels of free wine!) Beautiful garden and a great library area for writing. great central Chiado location - I walked there and back to most places.

The rooms and the corridors were not finished to the same standard as public rooms. Although workmanships was good furniture was naff - there wasn't enough money spent in my opinion. A good designer might have helped. Piano and Violin music for breakfast was great but loud. I heard it from three floors up!

Lovely hotel, rather unique and a bit quirky! Loved the breakfast (although hot food was lukewarm), it was a good selection and the seating area, with the music was just lovely. I love the decor, the room was nice, the bed comfortable and a nice little balcony with a view. It was a great location and we had a back facing room so it was nice and quiet. We liked the extra wine and cheese that was available in the very unique theatre downstairs every evening (this was a nice unexpected touch). We also liked the spa and the fact that you had to access it through the backstage of the theatre was hilarious! The staff were great on check in - very helpful, but (as with most hotels) not great on check out!

Upon check out - no-one helped with our bags or cases, despite seeing me struggle and there being a doorman watching! We were asked no questions - like "how was your stay?" - it felt like now they had our money they didn't really care if we came back. A shame as it was a lovely hotel. I also seriously damaged my toe on the shower in the night - on a sharp corner. I thought I had broken it, but luckily just badly bruised. The shower head itself was either dribbling by the overhead one, or blasting all over the bathroom by the one you hold with your hand (this room is called Nutmeg 2 on the 3rd floor).

What an absolute joy to stay here! I booked this for a solo birthday trip and it couldn't have been more special. I wanted to wake up in a princess room for my birthday and it certainly delivered. The hotel itself is impeccably maintained and stunning. You are made to feel like it is your home and you can wander and explore as you please. On my birthday the staff took pictures for me at breakfast and did a special serenade to sing and play happy birthday on the violin at my table, with a candle in a cake. The wine in the cellar was wonderful. I am not a red wine drinker but enjoyed all 3 that I tried. Everywhere you go in the hotel you are treated by the staff as if you are the only guest. They always have time, kind words and good humour to share with you. In particular, Diogo made a special effort to make me feel welcome on my birthday, Maria Carla helped me navigate the city and was so flexible helping me to book dinner and spa treatments, Ronda the masseuse was lovely and attentive at the spa, Carlos the waiter for dinner was a treat and Carla's Fado singing was the icing on the cake after seeing her host breakfast every morning.

The beautiful garden closes after 10pm, and with the sunset at nearly 9pm it would have been nice to return to the hotel and linger there. I was confused with another black guest at reception and dinner - it didn't cause any problems but a heads-up for any other visitors.

It is rare to find such a wonderful hotel. The staff was super-friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be working there. The 400 year old mansion is unique; in fact, this mansion was the highlight of our stay in Lisbon. The location, near the Tagus River and the Luis Camoes Plaza, is excellent with easy access to the Alfama. The breakfast every morning included live piano and violin music and some Fado singing along with abundant, healthy foods. There is a small, but high quality gym and free wine tasting.

There is nothing I did not like. That sounds unbelievable, but true.

My wife and I have just returned from a 4 night stay at this wonderful hotel. The staff made us so welcome, and the atmosphere of assured calm resonates throughout. Marcio welcomed us on arrival, ensured we were happy with everything, and gave an excellent recommendation for a local restaurant around the corner on Rua das Flores. We thoroughly enjoyed the Fado night. The music (courtesy of Carla, Andre and Andre) was very moving, the food was delicious, and the table service (courtesy of Allan) was excellent. Staff were always on hand at reception to advise on directions, activities and options. There were always so many delicious options for breakfast, and again we were always welcomed with a smile and great service. The spa was a wonderful treat and again the staff were most attentive. The hotel is located in the heart of Baixa-Chiado, within easy reach of trams, metro, and (on foot) all the attractions of downtown Lisbon. We will most definitely be returning, and would heartily recommend this rare gem.

Can't think of anything. It was amazing.

Normally I stay in cheaper hotels, but for our honeymoon we booked something more special. We had high expectations based on the reviews and were not disappointed. What an amazing hotel! The staff is super friendly. We had such a nice honeymoon surprise ❤️ The lovely garden with complimentary wine and cheese. The complimentary herbal tea and water. The wonderful Roman bath. We loved everything. One of the best breakfasts ever. Fresh fruits, pastel de nata, eggs in all varieties, delicious herbal tea. A real princess breakfast. We had a room with river view. I thought the river going to be far away, but it was closer than expected, making the view amazing. Highly recommend this hotel!!

For us the bed could have been a bit bigger. We still slept super well though.
