The location is fantastic with the pub overlooking a stream in a pretty village. Our twin room was very comfortable with lovely bed linen, magazines and bottled water provided as well as tea & coffee. The fish and chips for supper was excellent, not too big a portion and really tasty. Nice dining area and cheerful atmosphere with friendly staff.
There was no hot water in our room early evening which was so disappointing after a long drive. We did raise the issue with the landlord who checked and then explained that the hot water tanks had run out saying that with 6 bedrooms and the kitchen all the hot water had been used up. No apology nor gesture of goodwill such as a drink on the house were offered which was a very disappointing response to an already annoying situation. The room cost £151 and I would expect hot water should be available for that price and some gesture of goodwill for the inconvenience.

Everything...but above all was the welcome and warmth of the team. From the welcome from Cass upon arrival, Cath, Alex and of course Fiona and Kenny as our hosts...it really was a wonderful stay. Forgive me for other great staff that looked after us but I did not catch their names. The locals were open and friendly too and generous enough to share their local with us. Barney as one of the locals deserves a special mention. Fires, food, wonderful decor, good beer too. The attention to detail makes this one special place. Our room was comfy and warm...meticulously clean. There are too many touches to list in terms of the effort the team go to. My other half was poorly and everyone was so kind. Put it this way....things were that good we booked and paid for the same 3 days next New Year. A full on ten out of ten...our kind of place...our kind of people. Thank you Fiona and Kenny.
Nothing.

Christmas night away with 12 family members. Booked all 6 rooms. We all had a brilliant time.. Couldn't fault a thing. Location stunning. Lovely building full of history, restored beautifully by the current owners. Fabulous, comfortable rooms off a classy corridor full of quirky and interesting items. The food was exceptional and the staff made it all perfect. They were all very friendly, attentive and helpful. The games room with the Pool table was a lovely space to all be together for our annual family catchup. We have been having our Christmas night away for about 8 years and we are all agreed that this was the best yet! We will be back!

Very cosy and welcoming country pub with a few lovely, comforable rooms. Each has a slightly sloping ceiling which we were warned about but it was not a problem. Cosy bar and restaurant area, lots of outdoor sitting areas for when the weather is good, including one beside the river. Free parking around it. 5 star breakfast and very good evening meal! Would definitely go back!
The pillows were rather hard even though there was a choice of size. The shower is in the bath but there was no grab rail and it's a high step out. A lot of dogs in all parts of the food area, no restricted area.

The welcome and service throughout our stay was exceptional. The pub is quaint and their food is delicious, I highly recommend their speciality pies for your evening meal and their full English breakfast is excellent. Then there are the bedrooms, this was our 2nd stay here (we have booked a 3rd too) and both rooms we have stayed in are 5* definitely as good as any boutique hotel we've stayed in. Finally, on to of all that they are dog friendly! Our chocolate Labrador, Rolo, thoroughly enjoyed the dog biscuits he was treated with.

Evening dinner was very tasty. Very good and interesting menu. Breakfast was delicious with fruit and yogurt, good coffee and good choice of well cooked breakfasts. The Hitel was in a delightful spot in a pretty village. The decor inside was stunning and unusual. The bed was comfortable. Nice linen and towels .
The pub is v popular and so the dining rooms were noisy with people chatting and constant background music. The recorded music was played until after 11 and unfortunately we could hear it upstairs in the bedroom. We could also hear people talking quite loudly downstairs under our bedroom, which went in until after 12 midnight. We had travelled a long way that day and we had longer to travel the following day so that was a bit distressing. We could not hear anything from guests in neighbouring rooms.

The King's Head staff were welcoming and friendly. The room was lovely and clean with good quality bed linens. The food was delicious and breakfast outstanding. Great shower, didnt want to get out! Checkout time of 11am seemed more generous than some places and we really appreciated that. Complementary fruit, fresh milk and bottled water to help yourself to, and books galore to read. A really great place.
We would have appreciated a larger TV in the bedroom, the one there was too small to read subtitles. Nothing else to find fault with and would highly recommend.

Beautiful location by the river; our room was upstairs overlooking a small sports field. The room was beautifully dressed and we felt very comfortable. We did appreciate the bottled water in the room and the fresh fruit in the corridor, such a nice touch. We walked around the village twice and each time we got chatting to very friendly locals. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the owners were what all hotel owners should be like. Hats off to you all; we loved our stay.
Nothing to dislike whatsoever. The only minus was that the taxi from the hotel to the Railway Station at Kirkby Stephens (4 miles) cost GBP30 so we should have accepted the offer of a lift but didn't know the cost of taxi!

- The staff there were outstanding and really made me feel welcome. They were friendly and very approachable. - My room was a good size for a twin room, loads of space, and my bed was very comfortable. - Great location, short drive from Kirkby Stephen and beer garden outside very tranquil - I really enjoyed the breakfast service. The cooked breakfasts in particular were delicious and a decent portion size. I generally enjoyed the food during my stay, but I'd add that a few more salad'y options wouldn't go amiss - There was a terrific selection of local beers in the hotel bar
- I guess it can't be helped with old buildings but wifi reception was a bit patchy in my room - The shower seemed to be a choice of hot or boiling

Very comfortable rooms, extras such as radio on, toothbrush, cushions.
Breakfast with one person taking orders, the same person checking out does not work. Waiting to give your breakfast order whilst this person is sorting tea and coffee order out is wrong. I was ignored for 10 minutes, sitting waiting to give my order. I watched and other people were treated the same. Employ two waiting on staff for breakfast would be my suggestion.
