Loved the historic standing of the building! Each room is different with funky fun wall paper and furnishings. Interesting, not your run of the mill standard cookie cutter hotel...but with tons of charm and charming young staff. Thank you Ethan, Jamie Emily and Shannon...you made the stay wonderful. Great ambassadors for Cardiff and the Exchange hotel.
Building is a bit creeky and old in certain areas - also location is a far walk 25-30 minutes to main heart of Cardiff City.

The jacuzzi bath and the big comfy bed. Breakfast was excellent with a wide selection (pastries, yoghurt, fruits, jams, breads, cereals, juices, hot breakfast, tea, coffee) and was plentiful aswell. Really fantastic range. Staff were always on hand - from reception thru to dining service - and were most helpful and pleasant. Room was spacious, quiet and well cleaned with complimentary bottles of water, tea/coffee biscuits. Enjoyed my stay and would recommend to others. Travel to the airport is a convenient 2 minute walk to catch the number 304 bus (only £3 adult one way ticket). While the bus trip itself takes over an hour (1 hr 20 mins or so) it's a direct route for the airport. The hotel is about a 30-35 minute walk into the town centre (approx. to the Cardiff Castle or about £6 by an Uber. Some nice little coffe shops around hotel too.
Didn't seem to have an elevator, so was tough to carry suitcase up 2 flights of stairs.

Nice large bedroom and bathroom. The reception, restaurant area, bar, and ballroom are beautiful and impressive. Quiet outside as no through traffic. Thick curtains block out all the light. Jacuzzi bath enjoyable. Breakfast was fantastic. Breakfast staff VERY welcoming and friendly, especially the lady with blonde hair in a high ponytail. The location is convenient to Cardiff Bay. Reception staff friendly and helpful.
Our room had connecting doors to another room. There is no soundproofing between the two rooms. Could clearly hear conversations in the other room and TV. Lots of things that could easily be fixed - peeling wallpaper in 2 places, knob missing on bedside table, wardrobe door does not shut fully and only had 2 hangers. Could not connect to WiFi (reception info on how to access different than info in room, but neither worked). Sealant in bathroom degrading. Bathroom fan didn't work. Two sash windows, one in front of the other, but one had no glass in it. I let reception know about hangers and fan and this was noted.

The reception staff on our arrival and departure were very welcoming and helpful. We loved the welcome glass of Prosecco and welsh cakes on arrival. Loved the history and originial features in the hotel.Room great value for money ,We enjoyed the jaccuzi in the bathroom in our room, lovely to relax in after a long along walk .Room private and quiet. Fanastic location near to the Bay and everything we needed . Would recommend getting the train , short walk to the hotel.
The hotel was shabby in places and grubby .However, our room was clean and had everything we needed .The decor was very dark in places and depressing in keeping with the Victorian era ,but maybe a modern twist and lighter would be worth considering in the future. Breakfast was in lovely surroundings, available until a decent time 11 am . Good selection. However , the food was pre cooked and luke warm.Would have been nice to have a freshly cooked option, rather than soggy scrambled eggs .

Reception staff is polite, efficient, and helpful. There's no parking on site, but there's a discount for Q-Park, Cardiff Bay, close-by on foot.
There is not enough light on the bathroom mirror for shaving. There is no place to hang out a bath towel. There is no specific place to put the soap. It sticks to the wooden shelf if you put it there. No shower curtain. If there was a fire, i think i would get lost.No telephone to speak to reception, etc. Q-park bar code had incorrect timings associated with it, so I ended up paying 12 GBP extra. I complained to them by email after having emailed them before arrival. Park attendant said it was my fault as there was a notice about on the pay machines. I nor my son saw it. I did get informed of an eventual refund.

Location is in a classic building. This was our third stay at the hotel. Each room is uniquely decorated. Rooms are comfortable and well appointed, not the cookie cutter sameness of chain hotels. Baths have very large tubs and rain showers. The hotel has been fit into the building without destroying the historic character, which results in a few odd corridors. It give the impression of being a greatly oversized B&B. The new Aura restaurant is well done and serves a very good breakfast.
Some of the side streets near the hotel are not redeveloped and a little run down. However, the hotel is convenient to Cardiff Bay, and a great deal of renovation and redevelopment appears to be taking place. The building has not been completely renovated. Some parts of the un-renovated building are deteriorated, and this can be seen from rooms that do not look out on the surrounding streets. Some corridors and stairways could use more sprucing up. However, these did not detract from the comfort of the room itself.

The reception staff were very pleasant, friendly and helpful. The room was amazing, especially the bathroom with its jacuzzi bath. Also, a good selection of mini toiletries. I also appreciated the complementary bottles of water. Loved the old fashioned decor, and the named rooms. The hotel has real character. The breakfast was nice, it could have been a little hotter, but it was good and filling.
Just a couple of things, and if no one flags them, the staff won't be aware of the issues. Firstly, a couple of the bedside lamps in room 103 need an electrician for minor adjustments. One lamp has a switch with a loose connection, and another one needs the stem fastening to the base more securely, it s a little wobbly. Secondly, is there any way of reducing the power of the jets in the jacuzzi bath? They were so forceful that water was being sprayed all over the bathroom! I was concerned it would flood so decided to abort. Lovely idea though!

The hotel is stunning! We have stayed in the presidential suite twice now. The room is massive, beautiful window overlooking the front. The new is absolutely huge and wood easily fit 4 people 😂 ( two doubles pushed together ) It comes with a spa bath that fits 2 people and a waterfall shower. Has a full size ironing board, iron, hairdryer and safe. We were given complimentary iced Prosecco, cider, beer and snacks too which was a lovely surprise second time round. It is filled with history and is simply beautiful. It’s a short 5 min walk to the theatre, bars, restaurants and quick links to Cardiff central
No central heating in the room but does have an electric heater which on the coldest night so far warmed the room perfectly. The chaiselonge was also missing second time around but a table with two chairs was in its replacement. This however did not dampen the experience, just observation.

Really friendly and helpful staff. Stunning building. Our room was nice. Lovely big bath and a powerful shower over it. Great breakfast the following morning with good quality products and plenty to choose from. Good location for the bay and train into Cardiff Queen Street.
Needs a lot of attention to detail really going forward regarding general maintenance and cleaning. Lots of chipped doors which is a bit off-putting. The stairs looked like they hadn't been brushed for a while. Our room could of been cleaner. Marks on bathroom door and carpet. Also the ceiling had like splash marks. How they got up there....who knows. Good luck.

great location, lovely reception and bar area and the restaurant was very chilled… we stayed one night for an event down Cardiff bay so the location was perfect. The history and experience around the hotel was fab and the rooms are very spacious..The restaurant was lovely and very well decorated and all staff were very attentive and lots of them if you needed anything… overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay again.
The only downfall were the windows in our room. Due to the old single panes, we could hear lots of noise from outside. The rooms could do with a little upgrade too, but nothing a little tlc couldn’t fix
