Location right opposite the river where there are lovely walks in both directions. Attractive Outdoor seating looking over the river. Close to the attractive town too. The staff were absolutely wonderful, every single one. The food was excellent at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Reasonably priced, carefully selected food from good small producers. Not extensive but a sound wine list with good ranges and choice. Comfortable and well equipped rooms. I’d pick room 103 for being spacious with views over the river and a large bed. They also have a ground floor large room with full wheelchair access including its bathroom. Bedford is a well kept secret!
Nothing really, except limited room in car park, but we found a space, probably fit not much more than a dozen cars.

Given a river facing room which was huge with a large couch and very comfy king double bed. TV could do with an upgrade but we didnt mind that. Bathroom was clean and had hot water for the large walk in shower, so no complaints there. Breakfast was excellent. Only criticisim is the second morning, the food was served on cold plates. We had dinner there too on Sunday night and really enjoyed the meal. The location is fantastic. The river is across the street and has a constant stream of rowers, geese, swans and ducks parading past. The vibe is good. Very cleverly the hotel is set up as a coffee joint / bar / restaurant. On Monday morning when most guests had left, the breakfast trade was very quiet but there were plenty locals there having a morning coffee with friends. The location is 100 x better and more comfortable than any of the town's Costa / Starbucks type places.
We were lucky to find parking. There is a small parking area behind the hotel and as we arrived someone left. A wedding was happening so the hotel was busy in that respect. It was a sunny weekend so parking anywhere near the river could have been tricky. I think the hotel should be clearer about the first come first served parking policy or better still reserve a bay for guests staying over. I'd be happy to pay a bit more for that priviledge. No other issues really. Its an historic building but a small hotel that could do with a few bits updating but that needs people supporting it. These are tough times. The souless Mecure around the corner just doesn't compare.

I liked that the staff were so welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. They were nothing but smiles and found us (2 adults and 2 children age 4 and 5) table in a busy pub and didn't have to wait long at all to be served something to drink whilst we waited for our food. The place was so cozy and charming that I would love to stay there again. The location is very close to the city centre, but also the park, which was lovely with all the lights at night😊 I also loved the fact they let people with dogs in to rest and eat😊
There weren't anything I didn't like at the place😊

Views, we had a front room overlooking the decking and river (103). Room was spacious, bathroom clean and well fitted (no bath just shower) but more than adequate for us Bed was big and comfy, more pillows in wardrobe if needed. The room had a huge wardrobe with iron and ironing board too. There was a dressing table which doubled as a tea/coffee making area/table. Nicely decorated and great views of the River Ouse. Food and service here was great, we ate at the hotel one night of our stay, a table outside on the decking, the tables are under a huge umbrella which also has heat lamps and the tables are provided with big woolen outdoor blankets if it starts to feel chilly.
Room was so hot it was unbearable when we walked in. There was only one fan (small Dyson) but it didn't really do anything. We tried to open the windows but firstly if they were able to open they had locks on so couldn't open more than around a few inches, and only 2 did, the other 2 were painted shut! So no natural air flow into the room. As the room was at the front it had full sun and so had really heated up. I went to reception and whilst we headed out they had been in to try to fix it so that it was a more comfortable temperature. They closed the curtains and added a bigger Dyson fan so the room was cooler when we returned from a walk which was better.

Our week long visit was a bit of nostalgia for us. The staff were absolutely some of the most helpful and cheerful that we've encountered in our 50 years of European travel. The hotel itself is a relic from the past and though the rooms are a bit dated, they are quite comfortable with good beds and pleasant decorations. Plus, the fact that the hotel is from a long ago period is what made it so great for us. To sort of repeat, what made our stay so great was the staff. We booked the breakfast included and were absolutely delighted by the English breakfasts where we ordered off the regular breakfast menu. The dinner and lunch menus were quite varied and those meals we ordered very tasty. Oh, and they have some great beer on hand drawn draft, including Timothy Taylor Landlord Pale Ale, which I love. My wife found their hard apple cider, name not remembered, quite nice. When back in Bedford we'll certainly stay at the Embankment again.
The car parking area is small and you need to arrive early in the day to get a spot. When we arrived in the evening after a day of visiting friends we had to park on the street overnight. By 0800, and after a tasty breakfast, I found plenty of parking spaces in the parking area. The 0800 time is important because that's the end of the on street free parking.

Lovely hotel, great staff, good location overlooking the river which is a real bonus. The bar is good and the menu has some great food on it. Breakfast was delicious.
Our only gripe was that we were using the sofa bed in the room as we were staying with our children, and it was very uncomfortable, sagging in the middle. I don't expect sofa beds to be as comfortable, but this was very poor. Expect we were a bit unlucky in getting that particular room, and would stay again, but would ask for a different room! Evening menu is a bit limited for kids.

Perfect location and free car parking. The room was very tastefully decorated and big. Great shower and big bathroom. Bath sheets were huge and the products supplied of very good quality. Staff were really friendly and made us feel very welcome. even got a phone call to check where we were as we were running late due to the road closure caused by the river festival. I emailed to ask about access and they recommended a car park close by until roads reopened at midnight. Breakfast was very tasty. Lovely ambience in the restaurant and pub. We booked late only the night before and it all went very smoothly. We love this hotel and will definitely be staying there again. Highly recommended.
Nothing- we loved everything

Without exception the staff were friendly and welcoming. We ate in the restaurant on both nights and the food was very good. Despite the fact that they were very busy our meals came out promptly. We were concerned when we arrived that having a room over the bar and outside seating area would be noisy but the fire door at the top of the stairs deadened all the noise, and it was very quiet outside as soon as the bar closed. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was hot.
The only very minor item which let the room down was the fact that the curtains in the huge front window were in a rather fragile state and in need of either relining and repairing or replacing. Having said that it didn't affect our comfort!

Check in was easy and problem free. The full English breakfast was excellent and well presented. Staff were friendly and professional. Our room had pleasant modern decor and facilities inside were very good. With the room being at the very top of the building (and the weather very warm) the fan already switched on when we checked in was welcome. Bathroom was fresh and clean.
The carpet in the room was grubby and dusty all around the edges and the large cobwebs on the open windows detracted us slightly from the rest of the pleasant room. In the evening I had to have a third choice of drink as my previous choices were not available.

What a lovely room with a view. Such comfortable beds, lovely white linen and towels. We've stayed a few times now and never disappointed. Everything we needed was in the room. So grateful to have the room ready ahead of the stated check in time. We also got lucky with the car park. It was full on arrival and just as we were ten point turning to get out, some ladies were just leaving it was such a relief. Everything worked out beautifully and would not hesitate to recommend or stay again. Nice terrace on a sunny day can't be beaten in Bedford which is not the greatest town apart from The Embankment and Castle Road area. 😄
