This is the most beautifully decorated hotel we've ever stayed in …. a real boutique feel. The staff from the greeting at check in and throughout our stay were so friendly and lovely. We had a top floor room with front and side views of the ocean and beach (room 36) …. just wow. On arrival we had in the room a beautifully handwritten card and treats to celebrate our wedding anniversary which was a special touch. The hotel is in a great location in walking distance to the town with shops and restaurants, plus directly on the coastal path. We stayed 5 nights and used it as a central base to visit west to Knysna and east to Tsitsikamma rather than keep changing hotels and it was a delight to return to each day. Breakfast and dinner was great, especially sitting outside looking at the ocean.

The only thing we would have loved would to have had sitting areas outside in the evening specifically for drinks. There is a lovely bar inside the hotel and lounge area, but the seating area outside in the evening is for dining. There is an infinity pool and sun loungers which have beautiful views, but means reduced access areas in the evening. Would be great if the sun loungers could be removed and replaced with tables/chairs for drinking in the evening.

There is no doubt that the The Plettenberg Hotel is one of the top hotels in the region, if not in SA. It's location is just amazing with the most stunning views of the bay, the sea, dolphins...just beautiful. For years we had wanted to visit so we were very happy that we finally did, this year in March. The decor in the sitting areas is very tasteful and the room we had was very comfortable and very clean. We stayed for 2 nts and both nights we had dinner in the restaurant. The food was delicious but we felt that there was something not quite right with the design and decor of the dining room. It could look so much better given it's location and view. To really make the most of your stay, though, I strongly recommend that if you can, book a room with a sea view. The common sitting areas are not that big and ofcourse do not have the stunning view that one has when sitting outside by the pools. It therefore does make a difference to have the stunning view from one's room. When we talk about value for money, it's better to pay more and have the sea view that to pay less, but still expensive, and have no sea view.

The Dining Room decor and atmosphere.

We had an absolute ball here for two days. Could easily have stayed longer and have been recommending it to everyone. The staff are so attentive, no ask too big or small, it will be looked after. They were brilliant about celebrating our engagement too and lots of staff were congratulating us. The pools are fabulous, overlooking Plettenberg Bay, giving you a brilliant view of the whales while having lunch, dinner or a glass of wine! The food was really good and very reasonably priced. Will absolutely be back to The Plettenberg, loved it.

That we didn't stay longer!

Very friendly attentive staff with a high standard of service. Superb views over the ocean. Being able to spot dolphins and whales whilst dining on the terrace. Breakfast and dinner outside is a very pleasant experience and food quality high. Well appointed bedroom with everything you need and stylish decor. Good location within walking distance of town centre. Car washed if requested.

There wasn’t enough locally caught fresh fish on the menu.

Lovely room and common areas are full of quality. Felt really relaxed and safe whilst in the property. Our room overlooked the ocean vista and crashing waves. The patio area for breakfast and evening meal also have a ocean view and on one day we could view dolphins in the nearby waters.All staff were so pleasant and accommodating. A glass of sparking wine at breakfast was a nice touch.

The balcony was too small to sit on. i think all the balconies are much the same.

One of the best hotels I've ever been too. It is on international standards and is World class. The staff are exceptional. The hotel and staff made my Mum's 72nd birthday so special and even upgraded us to a suite. I cannot thank them enough. Chantal, Samantha, the housekeeping staff, the restaurant staff, the porters, and the car guards were all amazing. Bless them all. Love the towel warmers and lounge I the room. It felt like home. Loved the fully stocked fridge and books on the shelves. Exceptional. It was cozy. Loved the way they turned us in at night. Felt so pampered as you want to feel on holiday. Nothing at all. Everything was exceptional.

What a hotel!! It was our first visit and we will be certain to return! The staff welcome was exceptional and this positive experience was with us throughout our visit. The staff are a credit to the hotel and couldn't do enough for us, nothing was too much trouble and they answered our questions with knowledge when asking about the area and suggesting things we could do when it rained one day! The rooms are beautiful and clean, serviced twice a day. The views from the hotel are stunning, dolphins in the surf are a wonder to behold! We ate in the hotel restaurant and the food was amazing, the cheese soufflé is perfect!

Having to leave!

Very Good - although on day 1 the fried eggs were hopelessly overdone (dark and crisp at bottom - surprised they get the kitchen - otherwise good (but no more fried eggs ordered)

no dressing table in room (although plenty of space for this) requested an additional separate chair (to enjoy sea via from ) - which was provided (i suggest you leave it there - I am sure all guests will welcome this) initially given downstairs Premier Suite next to pool - did not like this, way too close to guests at pool - no privacy unless doors closed - much happier upstairs

Wonderful, staff, location, roomn and food. Delightful hotel. Staff could not have been more helpful. The kitchen was incredibly accommodating when i wanted something different off menu. The housekeeping was excellent, as was front of house and security. Our room was perfect location for husband to access the main areas n the hotel, which we really appreciated. View from room excellent. Very happy stay. Thank you!

.Noisy extractor fan.. Would REALLY have appreciated a night light and better non slip tiles in the bathroom.

What a gorgeous little hotel! The staff are amazing from the moment you step in the hotel - you can tell service is a valued aspect, the decor is gorgeous to the point that you want to take photos of everything and the views are stunning! The hotel overall has the charm of an old established place but with all the luxuries of a modern place. Our premier suite was superb, spacious, with a generously stocked mini bar. The food was great to the point that we didn't want to venture out anywhere else. We LOVED it and would love to stay there again.
