Hotel Sonne Interlaken-Matten

The process starts from the check-in and the automation to enter the room simply dazzles you. The room was indeed very nicely decorated and the balcony was great with the view of the clouds which were just at a level where it met with the mountains. My dream of having such views came to reality as it was just the perfect time to visit and the view from the balcony of Hotel Sonne was simply breath taking. The hotel offers coffee and snacks in the common areas and also the chocolates which they give are as smooth as silk. I never wanted to leave the room as it was the perfect combination of cozy and comfort.

Hotel is well located in Interlaken. It is not too far & not in the busy streets. I stayed one night in the city centre and the noise and the people were so loud but at Hotel Sonne it is so peaceful and calm. The view was great from our room and we loved the coffee station with the nice little swiss chocolates offered. The super market and restaurants and the bus stop is so close by. The Hotel is just in the right place as we wanted it to be.

Breakfasts offered are only with Vegetarian and Vegan Options, but we have a lovely bakery just across the entrance of the hotel which serves breakfasts and this is definitely equal to having breakfast in the hotel.

Super friendly staffs! They have a bus-stop named under their hotel. Yes, you heard me right, the bus stop is named Matten, Hotel Sonne! You definitely can't miss it! Remember to ask for your Guest Card which you can take the buses within Interlaken and train to Grindelwald for free. You get some discount on the full Jungfrau Railways tickets. The bakery shop opposite the hotel is very good too!

I understand that they will be closed for 2 months for some renovation/upgrading work after this October. So I guess all those imperfections will be fixed by then. 😀

Great location, superb balcony view, friendly and welcoming staff. Room was comfortable with phone app access which was convenient. Extra shout out to staff who surprised my brother with a lovely birthday cake and didn't forget me either :-)

Would be handy to have a small fridge in the room.

Location was very convenient - the bus stops were just a few steps away from the entrance. Quiet at night. Comfy beds - there was an extra bed for the 3rd traveler in the room instead of just a sofa bed like other hotels. Nice view of the mountains from the balcony. Staff was friendly and helpful. Free water, tea and coffee with biscuit and chocolate on every floor.

The room door needed to be slammed in order to be closed properly. Otherwise it would trigger the alarm. This created noise nuisance at night and in the early morning to other guests.

Very beautiful hotel in quiet setting. Rooms with balcony with view on the neighboring forest.

The hotel claims to be a Bed & Breakfast. However, breakfast is only available, if expressly requested in advance at the time of booking. We wanted to have breakfast at the hotel, but were suggested to have breakfast at the neighboring hotel. Maybe this breakfast policy needs to be stated a bit more clearly in the hotel description.

We were given a very warm welcome and the staff at the Check-in counter - SHIRAJ was very helpful & very entertaining. He specially gave us a room which was good for us. The room had a very nice balcony and also had a newly renovated bathroom with SHATAF. It was indeed a pleasure to stay with Hotel Sonne. When we check-ed out we were also given recommendations on how to travel and suggested us a special route to go to Italian part of Switzerland. The route was with breath-taking views.

The best thing about Hotel Sonne is its location. Please see Google Maps (Type in "Interlaken, Switzerland, Hotel Sonne") The Hotel is at the cross roads of two major roads, METZGERGASSE and HAUPTSTRASSE. A taxi from the train station at Interlaken Ost, will take about 5 mins and charge you about 15 Francs. The bus will drop you across the road from the hotel’s entrance. Not sure of its charges since we were using the Swiss Rail Pass which entitled us to free passage in trains, buses and ferries. The Hotel is an old building which has been restored keeping the exterior intact. Looks beautiful. Please see pictures attached. It has an elevator for use of guests staying on the upper floors. Quite comfortable, though a bit small. Had a lovely balcony which we used every morning to have a cup of tea, and again every evening to have a drink. We had NO meals at the hotel though they were ready to provide Indian meals in case we so desired. Just across the road from the Hotel is the Steininger Bakery and Café. It serves an excellent Breakfast and other bakery products the whole day. And within 50 metres of the Hotel there are several other restaurants where one can have very good Pizzas, a Thai Restaurant if you like Thai food and for desserts there is Café Gelato which also makes excellent crepes. A bar is also close at hand for drinks. An ATM is within 20 metres of the Hotel (diagonally across the intersection) where you can get Swiss Francs. For daily needs there is an excellent departmental store called COOP about 10 minutes walk along the METZGERGASSE . The staff is very good , friendly and helpful. Do stop at the reception and ask them for advice on travel, shopping, or good eating places.

I am a firm believer in the saying "Don't meddle with a system that is working fine" We liked everything that Hotel Somme had to offer. All we can say is, Keep it up.

Very helpful staff. Liked the Hotel icon put on my smartphone which opened hotel and bedroom doors instead of a card although that could be provided if preferred. Also communicating via WhatsApp which was very quick and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and I highly recommend it. Main bus stops were virtually outside the hotel and it took minutes to get into the main town. There were several restaurants around as well. The floors had a section with kettle, coffee machine with all the necessaries, jug of water and tray of small biscuits and chocolates. Would mention however that breakfast if taken does not provide meats or eggs but everything else provided
