the cleanliness

the breakfast was very disorganised n not ready for the 0830 booking slot we were given, we had to ask for a few basic things like cutlery, how long the tea coffee would be, whilst we could hear the staff talking about their nights out n how they’d been up since 7am n it’s not fair etc . very limited options also, we were glad we were first in as we also heard them saying that if others came in for breakfast they wouldn’t cook anymore food as they were closing the kitchen and couldn’t b bothered! We also had no Wi-Fi when we asked at reception we were told nobody else has a problem so it must be our phones great problem solving guys cheers 🤷👍

It was in a great location, staff were friendly. It was clean and the rooms, although basic, were very light and comfortable

I cannot believe 2 weeks before they were completely full for 3 consecutive nights that decided to stop providing tea and coffee in the rooms! Apparently this is due to increased costs but the cost of the room was increased due to the demand for rooms with Ed Sheeran playing Cardiff and, the radiator in the bathroom was on full!

Property was situated 25-30 minute walk, 4 minute drive, from the island which was great for us as this is what we came for. We also went into Cardiff which was less than a half an hour taxi. Staff were lovely, very welcoming, great selection of alcohol at the bar. Great customer service from everyone who worked here. Free wifi. Property can provide iron and ironing board if needed.

Not a lot of room for parking but it is specified in the booking but I mean even externally from here the parking is limited but nothing that the hotel doesn’t already tell you but if there is available parking outside the hotel there is room for 3-5 cars. Bathroom floor was slightly torn up from clearly being very worn. No plugs by the bed but one awkwardly mid way up the wall next to the wardrobe with no table or anything for the plug to be of any use. There is only one pillow on each side of the bed, each pillow very flat too. (Checked the wardrobe for additional ones but there wasn’t any) Shower was very small, I’d ask for a room with a bath and shower if you’re a larger person as my friend had a room which this was the case.

There was nothing that was too much for the staff anything we asked for they accommodated for and more! All of the staff we encountered were friendly and absolutely went above and beyond there was not one staff member who we encountered who didn’t have a smile on their face or was jumping to make sure that we was ok and had everything we needed! I really cannot sing their praises enough. The rooms were clean they could do with a bit of a paint but there were no issues bathroom was a good size and had a bath which was a bonus! This will definitely be the first place I look to book if I was to come back to wales! It was literally a few minutes walk from the train station which the train is cheap enough to go anywhere from there really! Thank you again!

I really couldn’t find any faults other than that the rooms could maybe do with a lick of paint!

The location is fantastic, as is the decor and the atmosphere. The price for the rooms were very reasonable and there was everything you needed. The bar is lovely and provides many options.

The bed was extremely uncomfortable. Springs were digging into me, left, right and centre. I've left with a few aches and pains. The toilet was not completely stuck to the floor either. It kept tilting to the side if you leant over even slightly (room 2). The blinds also need a bit of TLC as there are panels hanging off. Lots of noise from other guests too, which I know can't be helped but some signs in the corridors may be appropriate, reminding other guests to be considerate. The tea and coffee situation is slightly bizarre and would have been beneficial to know beforehand to either bring our own teabags or that there would be a charge for extras.

The staff as always were polite, courteous and helpful, asked for extra pillows and Morgan brought them to the room in only a few moments, two other staff were excellent also, both remembered me from a previous visit and spoke to me as if I was a good friend , Shaun the night porter and a young lady, I think her name was aleshia.

Unfortunately the extractor fan was extremely noisy and would stay on for some time when you had turned off the bathroom light also there was a small issue with the shower in when you used it the water ran down the bath side that was against the wall all the way to the bottom of the bath end and dripped all over the floor , had to use a towel to mop it up every time , other than these 2 minor problems nothing else was an issue

Staff were very friendly couldn't do enough for us. Warm and welcoming. Lovely view from bedroom. Hotel very convenient for train station and local amenities.

We only got 2 teabags on arrival and 3 sachets of sugar never got new when house keeping was done. Had to ask for extra pillows they were thin and useless. Staff where running around as under staffed. Bar was nice beer not so nice tasted off. So we left it after a sip we did wait a while but no one was tending bar as only 1 girl running desk and everything else.

However on check out all this changed. I was charged twice for my stay and expected the hotel to notice the error and agree a refund however Siraya the manager was adamant that I had book twice and they would not refund the cost Shocked is an understatement. I would have been a returning customer as working in Barry over the next 3 months and would have recommended to my team but given the response I will not be returning so I hope the extra £144 was worth it At the point of check in I was not told about the additional booking nor given another key and therefore this feels very dishonest I sm sure members of the council will be interested to hear about how visitors to the Vale ate treated

Very good value for money, quiet location, extremely helpful staff. It was sold as a small double but it was big enough. I've had smaller rooms elsewhere without being pre-warned about the size. Bathroom was smallish but good -again I've paid a lot more in other parts of the UK and had far smaller.

Lots of steps, but I booked long in advance before I knew I would struggle to carry anything - the staff dealt with my big case very helpfully and cheerfully. I would ask in advance for a different room in the main block next time.
