The location of this pub/hotel is along some country roads and it is very secluded. The pub has a gastro vibe, and we ate an evening meal which was very good. The room itself was within a converted barn, or maybe it was purpose built. We had a ground floor room (there were a few rooms on the 1st floor). Our room had a terrace outside with wooden seating that backed out onto a lawn. The room was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The following morning, we had a good breakfast, with continental items and a cooked breakfast.

For breakfast, the eggs benedict would be better served with ham rather than bacon.

We were given a warm reception on arrival and the staff were helpful throughout our stay. The front bar felt like an actual pub, rather than a holding area for a restaurant and it was great to see locals come in for a drink. We were able to choose where to sit - inside our out - and there was no issue when we moved from one spot to another. The food was fantastic. Not just impressive descriptions but properly prepared and delivered. The dishes had flare and originality, without trying too hard. The room was quiet and it was great to have a little patio area outside the door. The decor was basic but fine for us. Being allowed to stow our bikes away in the shed was a bonus.

Nice old pub with lovely gardens in a quiet village location. We liked that the rooms were away from the main pub so no risk of noisy evenings, but actually this is more of a restaurant with a small bar attached than a pub with a restaurant attached, so there is probably low chance of that. The room was fairly small, but smart, clean and comfortable. We liked that the doors opened onto a quiet patio. Dining room and food offering was good.

Reception staff were a little...disinterested and not particularly welcoming, but all waiting staff were pleasant and in general efficient. The restaurant menu is very GastroPub and our meals did look wonderful, but didn't quite deliver on flavour. Truffle and Parmesan chips tasted great, but they really need to be crispy!

This is an exceptional find so should I be telling everybody about it??! The White Horse Inn is one of those places you have to want to travel to as it only reached down a single-track road with passing places until you get to the idyllic little village of Compton Bassett. The White Horse Inn itself is a pub - obviously - but so much more than that. The owners are welcoming, the food is exceptional, and the accommodation is comfortable and adequate. But it is the overall experience of being there - even if for one night as we did - that makes it so special and for which I am happy to rate it a 'ten'. The evening meal was some of the best food I've ever eaten at a pub, and the breakfast the following morning was THE BEST full English I've ever had - bar none! Well done for having wonderful ales and cider on tap and making our stay there a genuine experience that we are happy to pass on, and we would ... we will be staying there again.

There was nothing to complain about - seriously, nothing at all

Dinner and Breakfast was excellent and most enjoyable. Room was a bit small and the bed was a double, but that's my fault for not booking a room with a larger bed (king size) and more room. Again our fault, the room was really warm as we forgot to open the window (its been a while since we have been away from home LOL ) But in general we would definitely look to stay again if we were coming to the area as its quiet and set in pretty surroundings.

Lovely quiet location. Good room size. Some friendly staff.

Lack of full length mirror in bedroom. Nowhere to put anything in bathroom except on narrow glass shelf. Off colour bath mat and wooden toilet seat that let down standard of room. Broken glass outside patio door. Patio area not well kept(weeds and not swept) No door hooks . Good quality breakfast although service very slow and on both mornings had to ask for butter.

Only my second stay at the White Horse and I was greeted like an old friend.... check in was fast and simple my room was clean and well presented... particularly loved having doors which opened out to the garden area the staff yet again accommodated by request for an earlier breakfast time so that I could eat before leaving for work evening meal was lovely as always and Emma was attentive and kind throughout the service the people who work here really are lovely and always go the extra mile

Nothing - really disappointed that due to staffing issues I cannot stay again next week when I visit but I will definitely be back at another time.

Lovely cooked breakfast Generous portion We stayed 2 nights and ate in the restaurant both nights. My partner is vegetarian and possibly the menu slightly favours meat eaters. On the first night I ate the burger which was great. The second night I chose a North African flavoured dish.

I am quite tall 6ft 2 the Bed was comfortable but the shower cubicle a bit tight as the doors opened inwards.

Stayed here for 2 nights due to working close by in Devizes. Check in was easy and fast.... Sam showed me to my room which is in a separate building at the back... this means it's exceptionally quiet which is perfect. The pub is located in a small village the whole place is very peaceful. Everyone was very accommodating.... I asked for breakfast 15mins before the advertised start time so that I could get out to work for a meeting and this was no problem at all. All of the food served during my stay was fantastic.... This is a small pub which is frequented by locals which can sometimes be a little daunting as a lone traveller, but everyone I met was very friendly. I will certainly be looking to stay again when next in the area.
