The hotel has a central position within Carlisle next to the rail station and within easy reach of all amenities (shopping/leisure). The standard double room was of a good size, clean, comfortable with bath and fixed shower. Ideal for an overnight stay. Buffet breakfast was satisfactory. Staff were all extremely helpful.

The only small point was that the noise from pubs and clubs until 1am is noticeable but we were aware of this before booking and didn't find this too intrusive but light sleepers might... overall it didn't detract from our stay. We did note that earplugs were available if required 🙂

Location was ideal right next to the train station entrance. I stayed midweek and had windows open throughout my stay and no problem with noise. Which I’d read about on other reviews. But I can see this been a problem on weekends as the street next to the hotel is closed off to traffic, due to all the bars and clubs on the street. If you’re wanting a weekend hotels close to nightlife it’s a good choice. Room was clean and tidy, furniture was showing it age with a few scratches but still fully functional. Asked about awake up call as unable to program them. Reception asked what time I wanted the wake up call. I received a personal wake up call and not an automated one which I thought was a nice touch.

Breakfast staff too attentive. I only just put my last mouthful of breakfast in my mouth. Put my knife and fork bad on the plate. By the time I’d finished chewing by breakfast the plate had been cleared away. 2 emails every day asking you if you wanted to up grades

We are not breakfast people so didn't take it. However it smelled good as we passed the dining room. The staff were friendly and helpful. They lent us a phone charger and were happy to refreeze our freezer block for the cooler box we had with us. They advised us on local places to eat where our dog could come in with us. Well laid out room with space to put our bags etc

The room faced to the front of the building which had the sun on it all day so it was very hot inside as the window only opened a few inches but the noise from the bars nearby went on till 4am the first night. There was a fan which we used to cool us.

Unbeatable location literally next door to the main train station. All window inserts contained an extra layer of glass which muffled out most of the noise from the station and surrounding pubs. Walkable distance from all major locations including the music venues of the Old Fire Station (which I attended) and the Sands Centre, plus the Castle and shops. Buffet breakfast in the morning, serving hot and cold food, was laid out in a well presented dining room. The bar area is very comfortable and looks to have been refurbished recently. My room had tea and coffee making facilities (not always a given!) and the reception were happy to replenish if you run out. Finally, the carpets throughout, including my room, were soft and bouncy, benefitting from a decent underlay for a change. Lift access to all floors plus stairs. Good price.

Excellent location. Staff at reception were very professional and friendly. Rooms were spacious and clean with a really comfortable bed and pillows. Nice big plug in fan also provided in the room which was really appreciated as the day/night we stayed was really warm. Thoroughly recommend the hotel and wouldn't hesitate to book again 😊

Two very minor things as in the car park was a bit confusing to find and would have liked an earlier check, although it was no problem to leave our bags and come back.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. The bath towels were large and fluffy, better than the usual hotel standard. The hotel is in a very central location with numerous restaurants and bars nearby and is only a few minutes walk from the shops.

It was rather noisy at times. I was awakened at 5.30am by a loudly slamming door which I'm sure was caused by thoughtless guest rather than anyone belonging to the hotel but wasn't a pleasant experience. The noise level outside the hotel increased from about that time too which is obviously the downside of being so close to the station.

This is our second visit to The Station Hotel, and the overall experience was good. We were a little surprised to find the hotel surrounded by scaffolding on arrival , but there was not a problem once we were inside the hotel. We received a friendly welcome, and this time, the lift was working. The staff are always welcoming and friendly here, and the breakfasts are really good.

The room was comfy but a little tired , and the banging from outside alterations a little annoying.

After being stranded in Carlisle due to the adverse weather, we booked this hotel last minute, and we're so glad we did. The hotel itself is very clean and tidy. The staff were so accommodating after we asked to extend our stay they got the price down for us and seemed to genuinely want to help us. The location of the hotel is very central to everything. It's literally a few feet away from the train station, which is handy if you have loads of luggage. The breakfast there is your usual standard hotel breakfast, hot and continental provided. And the facilities are all there with amenities. They also make sure you have enough toiletries and emenities if you're staying more than a day. Over all its a brilliant little hotel, and we would definitely stay again.

The only thing which I didn't "like," which really isn't something I'm that bothered about is the decor was slightly outdated. However, that doesn't bring down the experience of the hotel.

The location: having arrived by train, the hotel is conveniently close to the rail station, and the city centre. Room was clean, staff obliging, breakfast was good.

The location: the downside being that most rooms closely overlook Platform 4, which is the main Southbound line, in use 24/7. The platform announcements were clearly audible throughout the night. Single-glazed sliding sash windows offer little sound insulation. I imagine little can be done about this, since the hotel is Grade II listed, so light sleepers should consider taking earplugs!
