Within 30 seconds one is on the Chess Valley Walk, within 30 minutes away from Little Chalfont (with the beautiful Rex bakery and an Italian deli) - ideal for solo travellers from London without a car. The staff were really nice and went far beyond what one expects from a hotel categorised at 3*. They seem to really care but not in an overly imposing manner It is particularly quiet during the week and in the mornings one hears the sheep from the nearby field, as well as some roosters and a few birds.
Mind that the property is divided into the Main House (on photos) and two other buildings - the feel there (outside the rooms) is much more corporate/conferency. If you do care about the whole experience, make sure to book a room that is in the Main House (and slightly more expensive)

I booked this last minute as attending an event nearby. This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in. Aaron greeted me at the second reception desk, as the main desk wasn't open and was so friendly and gave me all the information I needed about using the leisure facilities & bars etc. There was a drinks station at this point where you could pick up coffees (I didn't realise there was a drinks tray in the room possibly!) I loved the whole style and theme of the hotel, was like being in a museum so much to see around if that's your taste, but putting that aside the rooms are top notch, I was lucky to get an upgrade to a double room, near to the leisure facilities which was handly. They have a 11am check out which is so good.
When I arrived the car park was really dark until some lights came on, guess the timer is on British Summer Time, foot cleaning brush near entrance would be good especially if you explore the area and go for a walk nearby, as I did.

I was upgraded on arrival, as a woman travelling alone so that I did not have to sleep in the Mews block where I had been placed, which was isolated from the main hotel block. The receptionists were particularly kind, thoughtful and helpful. On one occasion ordering room service for me so that I could go and have a swim and it would be delivered on my return.
The changing room for the swimming pool is rather small, and users clump in from outside with muddy shoes which makes it difficult to get dressed without getting one's clothes either wet or muddy.

Spent 2 nights in this beautiful hotel for my boyfriend's birthday ! What do I say, the location itself it's absolutely stunning, nature walks around the hotel and the hotel itself is set in a beautiful location ! The room ... WOW! Clean, tidy, huge and comfy bed, bathroom absolutely spotless, honestly couldn't fault a single thing ! There was also a gym & swimming pool in the hotel however we didn't use this. Large carpark too. I cannot thank Sarah enough for the birthday decorations in our room for my boyfriend, you went above and beyond and made us really happy! The communication between myself and the hotel / Sarah are great! Everything you could ever want when staying in a hotel. I will definitely be returning! Honestly didn't want to leave this place! Thank you again to Sarah for everything you have done !

Location was stunning surrounded by beautiful grounds. We stayed in a deluxe 3 bedded room in the main building was comfortable and spacious.
I’d booked 2 other rooms for my family. A superior double and a standard double. These were located in a newer building above the gym. They likened the rooms to a premier Inn. Pretty basic really. The building is also quite vast so getting from A to B was quite the trek with steps here and there along the long corridors. If you have mobility problems you should think hard before booking this hotel. We ate in the hotel restaurant which was very average. The buffet breakfast was good.

Interestingly not able to get a better rate from the hotel by calling direct to their reception a few months in advance. We stayed in the Mews block for an event, it was a compact functional room. Main lighting was from the "Anglepoise" style lamp and lights in the bathroom. Exemplary bar service during the evening. Impressive breakfast selection although a very limited range of cold meat and cheese.
Room seemed quite dark. Neither extractor fan or towel rail were working in the bathroom although every fused switch in the room was set to "on".

Its a fantastic location near the River Chess in beautiful ancient countryside, great with a dog as the grounds and connecting 'Chess Walk' couldn't be better situated and for running. We changed rooms to the old house, bigger room with dog and quiet. Vey warm in rooms in summer but fan helped a lot. Staff very helpful. There were 3 weddings whilst we were there but didn't bother us - its wedding season mid summer! Would really like more history on the house and the Latimer history, before WW2.
Like all these old places, a £5m investment wouldn't go amiss, such an historic place. Grounds bins need emptying more frequently an early morning clean up of wedding rubbish outside. Breakfast was Chaos but it was very busy.

Room and view were lovely. Small bathroom but manageable. Leisure facilities were good. Hotel is a beautiful building.
Breakfast was not quite up to scratch. Seemed disjointed with different bits everywhere; cooked food was processed (mushrooms/scrambled eggs etc). Not much continental selection. Both mornings the tables were not laid out fully and lots of dirty tables, so having to grab cups etc from other places. The coffee machine was always empty so first cups needed replacement. Evening meal was really good other than "greens" does not mean vegetables. I asked if there were vegetables with the meal and was told yes, but it was watercress but resolved by ordering a side.

The building is beautiful and the setting is magnificent. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful as were the bar staff.
We dined in 1838 restaurant on the first night. The food we both agreed, was delicious and cooked with love and care. But sadly the service let it down as it was slow and was very difficult to get anyone’s attention even though there were approximately 8 staff on at the time and it wasn’t very busy on our arrival. We had to get someones attention to get the water (which we were asked if we’d like at arrival) and equally as long for our bread (which we could see was drying out on the chefs pass). We observed 2 ladies in particular that were dressed in more formal attire, so presumed they were managers, walking around with their heads down so you couldn’t catch their eye which we found quite frustrating. Overall the food was delicious, setting was beautiful but let down by the service.

Reception staff were spot on and allowed me to arrive early. Breakfast was immense room was ideal and comfortable building was well kept and clean catering tray in room was very nice too and a stocked variety of liquids and biscuits to chose from.
i do not have any complaints the only thing i noticed (which was no bother to me at all, but maybe to other "picky people"), was the telephone in my room was dusty, nothing that the cleaners cant give a wipe of every now and again. this is not a complaint, i did not use the telephone, i just noticed it.
