It was the perfect location, the staff are rare.. it’s hard to find hardworking, friendly staff and they have them all on point. All working together just a great set up. They went above and beyond for us and made our stay truly memorable and can’t thank them all enough

Nothing at all. The reviews I read before our stay made me really optimistic and worry slightly but ignore the negativity that’s being posted. The pool does need a paint but that’s all cosmetic and ot certainly isn’t dirty as stated in many reviews. The only down point which wasn’t fault of the hotel or staff was the coach full of Germans staying. Like vultures at the breakfast buffet, incredibly rude but the staff handled them with pure professionalism.

Room was comfortable, clean and spacious. Cleaning staff even posed our daughters cuddly toys which was cute and she loved it. Reception, breakfast, bar and cleaning staff were very nice and helpful. Breakfast was nice and the pool was an added bonus. Location was excellent.

Decor could do with updating. Great pool in which our family really enjoyed. Unfortunately, the changing rooms are in desperate need of refurbishment with barely any of the lockers functioning properly. However, the biggest disappointment was the attitude of the lady on reception in the fitness suite. We were made to feel like an inconvenience and other guests even remarked on how rude she was.

Initially communication was lacking in regard to confirming that we were travelling with a dog However, the reception and service we received from Paula was excellent and any miss apprehension where laid to rest The room was clean and comfortable for our one night stay. We ate in the Brassiere where there was space, allocated for guests with dogs. We were served by an excellent team of staff, including Lucy, Steph and Chloe they were very helpful, attentive and caring towards our needs, and the dogs needs. Service at breakfast was excellent. Choice and quality of breakfast items was good. Something for everybody and my sister is diabetic her needs were catered for with the help of Lucy. Lucy was on duty again, along with Daryl Both could not do enough for us. This was a one night stay on our way to Belfast and would not hesitate to use the hotel again. The only criticism I would have would be relating to the building and the surroundings. It looks a little tired needs a little care and attention, but the staff more than made up for that

It need a bit of maintenance/ TLC

The location was perfect for visiting Chester. It has a large car park and is just a 5 minute walk from the Park and Ride bus, which is only £2 for a day rider ticket. Ideal to leave the car behind and go into the city by bus. The hotel was clean and comfortable, and our room and bathroom were a good size. The bed was very big and comfortable. There was a good selection for breakfast. The pool and spa facilities were very good.

There wasn't much that we didn't like. The room was rather warm, and no air conditioning (probably because the building is a little aged?) There was a tower fan provided though. It didn't really cool the room down much, but was a nice thought. We had 2 windows which we kept open for a bit of fresh air. The hotel was generally clean, but there were some areas where the carpets looked slightly shabby and could possibly do with replacing. Several of the lockers in the pool changing rooms were broken and need replacement locks. There were still plenty usable ones though, so not an issue. Only minor 'dislikes'. Nothing too serious.

Excellent location. Staff super friendly and welcoming, unfortunately didn't get their names but the lady on reception, young lad behind the bar, young lass in the restaurant & the guy on the swimming pool reception deserve special praise!! Brilliant free to use facilities (gym, pool, sauna, steam room etc). Will most definitely be staying again next time we visit Chester.

Nothing much at all to comment on what we didn't like. If we had to be picky and put something, then maybe the couple of dusty spots in the room (top of the bed lights & inside cupboard), but that's it, and certainly nothing really worth mentioning or to deter us from returning. Excellent stay!

The room and breakfast were great. We had booked 5 rooms for an overnight stay to attend Chester Races with requests for at least two rooms to be on the ground floor which was accommodated. The staff were brilliant, Sue on reception was so welcoming and helpful, she very kindly printed off our tickets for the races due to an oversight and also assisted us with locating an item that was left behind in one of the rooms and put it safe for us to collect at a later date. The hotel was approximately 10 minutes taxi ride from Chester centre.

We had slight issues with the water pressure and temperature for the shower in the evening but it seemed fine the following morning.

Reception staff and staff on for breakfast were friendly and helpful. Breakfast area is really nice and overlooks lovely gardens. Only £12 extra for myself and a toddler with a great selection. Catered to my sons gluten allergy. Hotel was clean. Great that it has free parking. Pool area was lovely. Rooms recently renovated. Bed big and comfy. Slept well.

If I was going to be picky, the room renovations (which I have been told are finished) don’t seem QUITE finished. The wardrobe entrance type area is all the old dark red wood furnishings, whereas the bedroom is the new grey/glass effect furnishings. So it’s a bit mismatched. Even repainting those old ones white/grey would make a huge difference to the room. There were 3 bulbs missing from the ceiling lights.

Such a lovely receptionist she was a true sweetheart. Amazing value, the room was lovely and clean and you get full use of pool facilities included in the price. They have a jacuzzi and sauna too, it’s absolutely lovely. Upon arrival there was a guest of the week card in the room with two free drinks from the bar- which was great. Would definitely come back and stay for longer!

Isn’t super close to the city centre, however it is right near the park and ride which only cost us £4 each to park and for a day bus ticket into the city centre, which was about a 10 minute bus journey.

The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was lovely, hot and fresh but I'm not sure I would want to pay almost £18 per person as an add on. The beds were comfy and the room nice and quiet. The shower was hot and powerful enough. It was especially nice to have use of the leisure facilities throughout the stay. We had to hunt for the second set of towels but found them eventually in a drawer. TV and wifi worked fine.

A wardrobe would have been useful as the small open hanging bar was only OK for shirts, tops and jackets etc. Anything longer would end up crumpled around the iron and hairdryer! We were only given a relatively limited menu then saw other people having burgers and pizzas etc. I presume it was because we had booked for the Brasserie but having been moved to the bar it may have been nice to have had the choice of menu. What we had was tasty though. Car park was overflowing at one point so had to park off site.

My friend and I had a fantastic stay from start to finish. Firstly greeted by Sue in reception, who was very helpful with information about the gym etc...also signed us up as members which gave us 2 vouchers for 2 free drinks in the bar. The gym was sufficient and the pool area was great (needs some TLC but it does look like they are currently working on this). The bar had a great atmosphere and the house white was very nice indeed! Easy enough getting a taxi into Chester. The beds were comfy and the room was clean. Enjoyed a tasty breakfast in the morning. Overall I would stay again for a night away for a relaxing break and change of scenery. The Hotel overall can do with some work in some areas, we stayed in 215 a very comfortable room but shower pressure was weak and does need looking at. If you want bells and whistles then maybe it wouldn't be the best choice but I have to stay from check in to check out we had a fantastic time. I would definitely stay again. Thank you to Sue and all the team at Mercure Abbott Chester.

Shower pressure was weak. Some pool/gym upgrade/maintenance is needed.
