Beautiful property with lovely gardens even in November. Room was nice, bed very comfortable and our room was quiet. Food was great and the public rooms were fascinating and filled with interesting stuff. Staff very friendly & helpful. Delightful resident cat although he didn't interact with guests much.

There was a wedding reception. It was kept separate but the disco could be heard in much of the hotel. Some other guests were kept awake by wedding goer's well into the early hours.

An enjoyable stay . Lovely surrounds. Staff attentive and nice to meet a fellow Australian full of fun and obvious enjoyment in his role.Lovely historic building with beautiful relaxing gardens . Out of the way location in a green neighbourhood. Food and waiter service impeccable.

Could use more staff. I am used to having staff in the garden taking orders for drinks while I relax. Shouldn’t have to line up at the bar Not impressed with Halifax township. Best thing was the journey out through leafy suburbs and the Derbyshire dales.

Beautiful building maintained to high standard and keeping original features and grandeur. A real feeling of old style peace and comfort.

Being charged £21.00 for a glass of wine at the bar without warning !! Bar prices very reasonable actually but after waiting for 10 minutes to get served I ordered a glass of wine expecting it to be in same price bracket as previous drinks, including wine my wife was enjoying. A bit if a shock to be charged £21 when bill came !!! I think bar man should have checked I was ok with price - I wouldn’t have been !

The house is lovely with lots of historic items. The room was very clean and comfortable.

We found that overall the hotel (described as luxury) did not live up to the standard we were expecting - we had much better food and service in other much cheaper hotels that we stayed in during our holiday trip. We were expecting better food - the breakfast was OK but we had much better quality food elsewhere on our travels. The wifi was intermittent at best and the TV in our room did not work one day. There did not seem to be an environmental policy and towels were replaced daily - unlike the water in the room.

Lovely period property with beautiful grounds, to enjoy especially at this time of year. Receptionist was very welcoming on arrival.

The staff in the breakfast room were too the point of rude and were very grumpy, it’s never nice to hear staff complaining together! It’s just our personal taste but the bed was one of the firmest I’ve stayed on we both found it very uncomfortable. We also made a hot drink in the room it wasn’t until I got to the bottom of my mug of tea to find about a 1cm squared piece of broken glass in the bottom, luckily I hadn’t swallowed this it could have been extremely dangerous. For two people the toiletries could also do with being a little larger, or two of them. Sadly we would have liked a drink on returning to the hotel in the evening around 11ish but there was no staff and closed up.

It reminds us of our house in Southport it creeks. Lovely gardens although weather horrid.

bed very uncomfortable one face cloth! One very small shower gel one very small shampoo no cream three tissues in box. Tight on your croissants got told that’s all we have but they did warm some up for us. Butter what’s all the slices about? Jam being filled clearly you can see they are being used by others ours was half full and all pots sticky?! Service tooo long. Meal fantastic when arrived. Nobody explained your breakfast routine felt like we were not welcomed. Some very stern staff🙀

it was a beautiful setting with traditional features. The food was fantastic. I loved the resident cat who would be sleeping on a nearby chair or greeting you at the reception desk. our room was very comfortable and nicely decorated with a good selection of tea and coffee making facilities. the staff were the best part of the experience, they were very professional but also very welcoming, friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody and definitely intend on returning soon.

the heating was on a little high on the first night as it was snowing.

Old charm. Original features. Famous history. Beautiful setting. Convenient to other places

We found the bed and pillows to be un comfy. The walkways around the rooms were dated and blinds in the room would have been better alongside curtains. The carpet didn’t meet the edges! But our dining experience was exceptional

Breakfast , the food was was absolutely fine but portion size seemed small for a full English breakfast in comparison to other hotels I have stayed at in the past year, but it was well cooked and arrived with minimal delay.

Overall it was a lovely stay, the rooms were clean and we were there for a wedding. Due to icy conditions I found that not being allowed to walk back through the dining area meant a walk over an icy surface, and one of the other guests fell over due to this. Only other thing that wasn't great was the attitude of one staff member at breakfast time as they seemed most unhappy!

The main reception, bar area & hotel is like stepping back in time in a great way, it’s really rustic & the grounds are stunning.

I feel the bedrooms could do with some TLC & the £211 we paid to stay seemed slightly expensive, I feel with how amazing the hotel is, the bedrooms need a slight refurbishment to match the glory of the rest of the hotel.
