The room had a comfortable bed and an efficient shower. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice. All the staff we came into contact with were friendly. There is a large car park and with a disabled passenger we appreciated the disabled car spaces very near the hotel entrance. It was our third stay in as many years which indicates our overall satisfaction.

We needed a step in rather than an over the bath shower - but all rooms with that facility are on the first floor and there is no lift or stair lift but that is a function of the building design.

The property was clean, nice and reasonably modern. Ample free parking. It is well situated a reasonable distance from Gatwick, and convenient to other sites in the area. We had arrived at Gatwick in the early afternoon on Saturday, and were intending to spend only one night in the area. It is a little difficult to find a place for only one night in the area of the seaside on a warm weekend and this was the perfect fit. There were some service issues in the bar/café in that evening, mainly due to understaffing, but breakfast the next morning in the main dining room was excellent. We went to nearby Nyman’s, a National Trust property, and to Brighton to see the Royal Pavilion, the next day before continuing on to Kent.

We asked for a quiet room and the hotel gave us a lovely room at the back in the old oridginal wing of the building it was very nice.

The food. We had an evening meal in the bar/dining area. Both meals were less than average. Bland tasteless curry and a chicken burger of pressed reconstituted meat worse than school dinners. Also is there a need to have background music and TV going in the dining area? We ate with 4 other tables of people all over 60 and yet there was disco/funky/rap music playing that was the obvious choice of the staff and a TV playing that not one customer was watching. Is it really necessary?

Comfortable bed and mainly quiet room. Even though there was a wedding reception on the second night we heard no noise of disco etc. - Great choice and quantity of food at breakfast. - Plenty of parking spaces. - All appeared to very clean. Attractive and comfortable lounge and dining room

Would have liked a larger room. The room was pretty characterless but functional. Grout etc cracks/gaps in bathroom would have taken 10 minutes to repair. Bathroom fan was very noisy (like someone using a slow drill on the wall) with no override switch independant of the light. No encouragement to try the restaurant so we ate out both nights but no restaurants nearby. Door closing was noisy and as other guests left the wedding party on the second night we has a slow succession of doors being slammed throughout the hotel at 2 am . Breakfast food was not hot enough.

Arrived at the hotel at 7am after a 17.5 hour flight from Australia. Joe had our two rooms ready and we were able to do an exceptionally early check-in. So appreciative of this as we were quite tired and hungry. We were able to freshen up in our comfortable room and then have a delicious full breakfast. Service was very good and a great selection of continental breakfast foods as well as a hot breakfast cooked to order. The beds were very comfortable and it was great that we were able to open the window to let in fresh air. The hotel is a good 30 minute walk uphill from the station so if you are coming by train grab a taxi. There is plenty of on-site parking for guests. We only stayed one night, but were very happy with the service we received at The Birch Hotel.

Didn't try out any meals, pretty busy to get my work done during the days. Meals are very reasonable prices looking at the offers on the cards. I was too busy and didn't like a full meal early in the morning.

Supplies like a pair of slippers for the bed room to keep the feet getting cold and keep clean from infections many ways. Tooth cream are not on sale in small tube at the shops. At the custom check point, tooth cream would be removed. These items are available for offers for hotels service.

Very good range of hot and cold ... vegetarian, but the meat available looked superb quality. Got food beautifully cooked. Would not be possible to barrier the car park because of sharp bend in road...it may have CCTV.

Could do with a lift, or Porter to help some people get luggage upstairs...we did not need and may be they do offer that if guests ask. Lounge area could do with updating and making a little more private, may be with plants, but ok.

Breakfast was very good and food served in the bar area

Room was a little dated, view was terrible - overlooking a dirty flat roof with a dirty aircon unit and a road. If roof was swept and the junk removed, perhaps a few pots of plants, it would help. Wasn't a deal breaker, just not a good first impression. Room was very hot, we left the door jammed open for as long as possible, the fan helped a little, but being so close to the road, the traffic noise was late night and early morning with the windows open

The choices for breakfast was out of this world. The room and hotel was spotless. The staff very friendly and helpful

The Sunday night we arrives we ate in the bar/lounge thinking this was a one off because it was Sunday. Monday's evening meal was also in the bar/lounge which was unexpected as the restaurant was laid up which we assumed was for the evening. The quality of this particular meal , a curry, was very disappointing. This was mentioned to the barman and manager at the time. Such a shame on an otherwise great break.
