A lovely quaint coaching inn from the 1100 ‘s .. updated of course. Super comfy beds, great breakfast and staff. It’s the only inn/pub/ restaurant in town. Food is excellent best steak and ale pie… my fourth visit from nz and I love it. 10 mins to steel rigg best part of Hadrian’s wall to visit too.

The room was awesome, with everything we might need: from a iron board to the coffe machine. The bed was a true bed for two people and not a small double bed. Nice bathroom as well and good Wi-Fi. we had dinner at the restaurant and the food was amazing (portions are quite big, so keep it in mind). Great location, very close to Vindolanda and the Hadrian’s Wall path!

The location, Newbrough village, was picturesque. The room was very clean. Breakfast was good.

The idiosyncratic single tap made it difficult to control the pressure and temperature of the hot water. Not very welcoming on first arrival, although this did change.

Situated directly on the Stanegate and dating to the 1100s with Scottish roots. Quiet road parallel to Hadrian's wall, so good for bikes. Brilliant little touches: a make up mirror by the window, make up removal towel in grey. Lovely meals- we ate in every night (x 3) and even took some guests who were staying in a different pub. Electric car charger outside hotel. They moved the breakfast time to accommodate us, and it was very good. Quoits pitch among the sheep over the road -allegedly a Roman market place. Church also on Roman foundations. Newsagent in next village.

Though billed as a B&B there is a separate entrance to the rooms upstairs, so you can nip in during the day even if the pub is closed. Pub has real stove fires as well as a separate private dining room.

The red lion is well located for visiting Hadrians wall and Hexham old town by car.The village has lovely walks passing through the area and was beautifully quiet when we stayed , we stayed in room 6 which has a shared separate entrance which is useful (Upstairs) with one room opposite - Our room was very nice and well equipped with Tea and coffee making facility plus loads of other extras, very comfy bed and nice view over fields to the front .Evening meals are served in a very pleasant room and were of a very good quality- as an aside the well stocked bar also has inches cider on tap..........

Only staying for two nights.....!

The food was absolutely fantastic and well worth the money. The owner was also willing to re-arrange the date at no cost due to a last minute train strike ruining plans.

Although everything was clearly high quality, there wasn't a choice of pillows, or at least we couldn't find other pillows in the room. Neither myself nor my partner found them very comfortable.

Sue was extremely friendly and made our stay quite wonderful. I had been expecting noisy and run down and was I ever wrong! The bed was quite comfy and the little bathroom was more than adequate. Parking right out front was a plus. Breakfast was excellent, from the fresh fruit to the extra toast. We stayed for dinner which was well prepared and quite tasty, from the starters through to dessert.

It was all fabulous.

It's a great location and a well presented Inn. The steak pie we had in the evening was exceptional with quality lean steak in a delicious rich gravy. A feast in itself, without the vegetables. The room had all the touches of a 5 star venue with robes, slippers, toothbrush, toothpaste, soaps, shampoo and a coffee machine, well above the norm for this price.

Nothing.
