This was quite a lovely little place and far more than the pub with rooms, which is what i foolishly was expecting. The room was really quite impressive, with a very comfortable bed, great bathroom, generously provisioned tea & coffee tray and truly impressive tv. I did not use the later but was definitely more than suitable for use relaxing in bed without the need for binos; definitely not your normal office monitor bolted to the wall type job. Whilst there wasn't an iron in the room one was provided with ironing board when I requested. The hotel restaurant/bar was well lit and welcoming, and I had a lovely evening meal and a local ale. Really far better than my wildest expectations and I can thoroughly recommend the pad thai which had quite a good zing whilst keeping its flavour; really very tasty. I had to leave before the included breakfast start time and so i can't comment on that, albeit not for the want of the alternatives offered by staff; I just wanted to grab an extra few more minutes of shut eye. Also for such a small village location i was surprised to see 2x EV charge points directly opposite the hotel. I don't have an EV but they both looked serviceable and with good access and probably more importantly not occupied by a gas gusler.

nothing other than I didn't have time to stay for longer.

The Bowes Hotel has the feel and atmosphere of visiting a happy family. We enjoyed the breakfast and appreciated the fact that we were allowed to take our time finishing our meal past the stated time. The cooked breakfast portions were large and I was able to order just a small part of it. The dinner menu was good and we especially enjoyed the Thai dishes. On the day we arrived, the hotel was able to accommodate us plus four guests for dinner at short notice. We were pleased that the owners and staff were so friendly and chatty - it made us feel ‘seen’ and welcomed!

Even better if the breakfast time was set for 8:00 - 9:30am.

Lovely hosts and staff. Open plan eating and bar area with real coal/log fire. A obvious community asset welcoming young and old alike. Good range on the food menu (Thai curries and traditional meals - fish, pies & chips etc.). Excellent cooked breakfast. Village is off the main road so the road outside is quiet. There was plenty of kerb space to park on the road - and there are a couple of parking places over the road (2 reserved for EV's). Convenient bus stop outside for travel to Hexham or Carkisle in the other direction.

When you think about rooms laid out over a tavern in a historic building, it's a little difficult to conjure an experience that's anything more than nicely rustic. The Bowes Hotel rooms and experience completely blew away that preconception with modern and extremely clean rooms, the most comfortable bed and linens, great amenities, and a wonderful stay. The only thing remotely rustic was the check in experience, handled by the barkeeper. This shouldn't be read as lacking in any way; rather very personal and comforting. Our room was large enough to be very comfortable, and offered a small kitchenette, a small meal table, and two club chairs which relieved us from having to watch television or read in bed. There was good closet space, and a bathroom with enough space to store our personal items, something that wasn't always present in other properties in which we stayed in Scotland. As Bardon Mill has no real amenities other than a limited opening tea room and small store, a train station, and the Bowes Hotel and tavern, breakfasts and dinners were eaten in the hotel tavern. The staff (who seem to each have a multitude of duties they perform with a smile and great engagement), were thoughtful about getting our estimated times for breakfast and dinner so they could be sure to hold a table for us. The food was very good, whether the regular Scottish breakfast, pizza, fish and chips, or the surprising Thai food offerings the tavern serves. It was really nice to have meals in the tavern, surrounded by photos of the largest leek growing winners over the years, and occasional locals who gathered for a chat over beer. We felt so at home, though we were only there for a few days. This was actually my spouse's second time at The Bowes Hotel and we came this year because of his wonderful experience there last year. For anyone wanting to walk around Hadrian's Wall, or visit Vindolanda, this is a great place to settle in.

At my very most picky-ness, the only possible thing I could suggest is a luggage rack (or two). While the room had plenty of space for us to open our suitcases on the floor, a couple of luggage racks in the closet would have been appreciated. This did NOT detract from how much we loved our stay.

The property was excellent, fresh and modern, very clean and well maintained. Really comfortable . Great location. Within good distance to the local places of interest. Definitely good value for money. The food was delicious. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. The young lady working there was clearly very busy during our stay yet she never failed to smile and show willingness to help/assist everyone she spoke to. Nothing was too much trouble

We walked Hadrian’s Wall and it was hard at some stage to find the accommodation near the walking path, So we had to get off the path to come to this hotel in Bardon Mill. We got warm welcome the moment we went to check in. Our rooms were on second floor. We were so happy with our choice, rooms were nice, spacious, comfortable, airy and big. Nice bathroom with good natural light. Downstair has bar and restaurant with big screen TV that my 2 nephews were so happy to watch the football match while having cold beer that night. We eat dinner here and it was so delicious. Breakfast was included and we had to choose the menu the day before, also breakfast was delicious too. We also so happy to meet “Sa” that morning, she was the wife (her English husband and her own this place)who was from Thailand and we were Thai, she was so gentle, polite and with spirit of hospitality. We wish to stay longer, we strongly recommend this hotel to anyone. One of our favorite hotel on this trip.

None. It worth that we walked 2 hours out off Hadrian’s Wall path to the Bowes.

My friend and I stopped here overnight on the Hadrian's Cycleway. Welcoming staff and a secure storage shed for our bicycles overnight. Great room, with tea and coffee and biscuits most welcome after day in the saddle. Wifi excellent, large room, large bathroom. Staff really friendly and we ate our dinner in the pub downstairs, hearty meals and good value for money. Breakfast was enormous and delicious and again great value. Would thoroughly recommend if you are walking Hadrian's Wall and especially if you are biking Hadrian's Cycle Way as it is right on the route!!

Breakfasts and evening meals were excellent. Good variety of meals to choose from. Bedrooms were clean and beds very comfortable. All the staff are friendly and accommodating and helped make our stay an enjoyable one. Very good atmosphere in the public areas and we felt very welcomed from the time we arrived to when we departed. It is the perfect place to explore the local area with access to many nearby walks and very convenient for visits to Vindolanda/Housesteads and Hadrians Wall.

A lovely place for a quiet break. The scenery around the area is breath taking. The walks were superb. Regarding the hotel, the staff were very good and couldn't do enough to ensure you enjoyed your stay. The food was delicious. The breakfast certainly set you up for the day, with lots of choice and cooked to your liking. The evening meals were varied and very good, with large portions Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and well worth the visit.

Nothing of any note. There was one little shop which doubled as a tea/coffee room and stocked all sorts of varied items. But we were informed that the owner was trying to sell up so that would be a sad loss for the area.

The room clean and comfortable. The pub friendly and food delicious. We were there 7 days and worked our way through the menu. All food was great. The owner Ian Millar was very hospitable. Has expert knowledge of the Roman history of the area and was kind enough to drive us to the Roman Fort. The staff could not have been more attentive and kind. I highly recommend The Bowes Hotel. Locals congregate at the pub and we befriended several of them.

Nothing. We loved everything!
