Self catered I was in private room in long barn with amazing roarin of road vehicles like being on a race track When I had a private room with a friend a few years ag there was no nois as we were in a different building so would ask about that next time but it would be a private room for 1 so I hope it could be elsewhere than noisy long barn which sounded like vehicles about to crash int building!
Only the noise mentioned above I mentioned it and was given ear plugs by staff but decided not use them in case if fire alarm and not hearing it

The location on the South Downs Convenient access by train Friendly and helpful staff Spacious and airy
When I booked, I requested a lower bed. I was informed that this request could not even be considered and a helpful suggestion was to book a single room. On arriving, the bed next to mine had been reserved. My booking name and actual name were not the same. Another YHA hostel, just noted this at check in. But this hostel made me cancel and re-book Just pure jobsworth. Not good customer service at all, by the area manager The check in and outs times, are most inconvenient A poor selection of beer

Stopped here for a night to go on a hike in the local area. We really enjoyed the vibe and feel of the hostel, it feels authentic to the countryside but well designed and equipped. The staff were all very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was good, not loads of choice but more than enough and exactly what you'd want from staying in a hostel. It got a little busy, but things moved fast and food was replenished often so it wasn't an issue. We didn't eat in the cafe in the evening, but did have some drinks and it was very reasonably priced, especially in comparison to local pubs in neighbouring villages.
Sadly, we found the beds to be really uncomfortable. We were staying in a bunk bed and the mattresses felt very hard. We had been out hiking so I'm sure that contributed to our aching muscles, but I don't think I'd enjoy staying for more than one night in the bunk bed.

Location, next to Southease station is really handy (easy travel to Brighton, Lewes, etc). Having free parking so close too was also useful (my friends travelled by public transport, but I drove). There's a big kitchen with everything you need for self catering. The beds are comfortable but they have a vinyl cover and I got very hot in the night. The reception staff were so friendly and amazingly helpful - I can't praise them enough.
The vinyl covered mattresses - although I can understand why.

Great location about half a mile from Southease village and directly on the South Downs path. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly. Great food too, we were spoilt for choice at breakfast. We’d booked a camping pod for the night and were concerned there might be some noise from the busy main road that runs past, but they’re set back from the main bunkhouse a short distance and it wasn’t an issue at all.
Only downside was the distance from the camping pods to the toilets in the main building. Otherwise perfect!

We stayed 2 nights as were going to to an event in nearby Lewes so the proximity to Southease train station was perfect plus being able to leave the car at the hostel for free was ideal. We had a shared twin (bunk beds) room with shared bathroom (between 3 rooms) and a shared kitchen. So everything was in place that we needed. There is also the option of buying breakfast and other food in the cafe in reception but we brought our own food and it worked fine. Great to have the use of the communal facilities in the farmhouse too (lounge with TV, games, books and another larger kitchen area). The hostel was in a converted farm so was very picturesque.
The main issue is the busy road that was right outside the window. Although in the night there was less frequent traffic so its possible to get to sleep for a few hours at least if you're a light sleeper. But I wouldn't recommend the hostel if you are looking for a peaceful break. Also there were no storage facilities, just coat hooks in our rooms so we had to put everything on the floor.

we booked a pod which was warm, clean and comfortable. they felt secure as they had a door lock and a padlock style lock too. despite being close together we weren’t disturbed by noise of other pods. the communal areas are well equipped with equipment and crockery, and kept clean too. there are two bathrooms available with a shower which were hot and good water pressure.
upon check in we were given the wrong access code which we didn’t realise until late evening, but this was rectified by calling the out of hours assistance number.

However after seeing the lovely Francis last night about our bed issue as in bugs on it continually, she couldn't have been more accommodating. What a fantastic lady, X the new room was immaculate, comfy beds, and a great night sleep. Breakfast was fantastic, highly recommend this, cooked to perfection, and the lady on reception this morning , Suzie, I believe, was so lovely, happy cheerful chatty! Well done the morning crew x
Unfortunately we were booked to stay in a pod, but there was an awful lot of bugs all over the bedding, as quick as we got rid, more came.the guy on reception when we booked in was not the most welcoming ! Maybe he was having a bad day, but deffo needed a course in customer service skills or working with the public!

Cheap dorm accommodation near Lewes for Lewes bonfire night. Short 3.5 mile cycle in. Opened early so we could book in and get into Lewes before all the roads were closed. Access to farmhouse to add boiling water to my oat pot and a cup of Rooibush.
There is a cycle store there they didn't tell.me about.

Location is beautiful, great if you want something cute and out in the open. breakfast is lovely! Rooms are nice and all that you need for your stay. Easier to access than you would expect given it's right near the train station. Brilliant for access to hiking paths and other cities around Brighton. I went there for the night to hike the Seven Sisters and it was a great starting position.
Showers are small, faint smell near drying room/bathrooms.
