Staff were incredible. Cathy in the restaurant is always so accommodating, jovial & warm. Check in lady was great and Glenn/ Glynn (the gent at reception) totally fabulous, great local tips & advice & nothing too much bother. Really appreciated the upgrade & adore visiting. Gorgeous little town & I love coming back here.

Room gets really hot. It’d be great if the window opened higher. If breakfast was an option until 10am that would be amazing. ~ Otherwise loved everything

Excellent location. Charming and well-appointed house. Our "classic" room was comfortable and a good size, but with very small bathroom. Breakfast good, but not exceptional.

Steep steps from car park quite difficult with luggage. Not easy to make use of kettle in room - no socket convenient for a table suitable to put the kettle on. We were surprised that there was no actual bar, but drinks were available on request late evenings (e.g. on returning after Glyndebourne) if you could find a member of staff.

There were two complimentary macarons under a little glass bell, sitting pretty in our bedroom. Charm also oozed from the well decorated living room and exposed beams in our room. The restaurant with its low light, low jazz, low ceiling felt cosy and elegant. The menu was safe but well executed, particularly the vegetarian option. I loved it. We were also brought deep-fried oysters as surprise amuse bouche and that was a first. Thank you so much! (Ps: Do not miss ‘Much ado books’)

There was a copy of the daily mail on offer and that felt unnecessary. Also, a footnote to say that the shower temperature was quite temperamental.

Everything was very pleasant - very pleasing decor [if occasionally very slightly OTT], staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts perfect, dinner very tasty and nicely presented. Bedroom spacious, beds very comfortable. plenty of drawers! Bathroom was large with walk-in shower, and spotless.

I would just mention the shortage of hanging facilities in the bathroom- no hooks for clothing, and only one radiator for towels - inevitably very difficult to dry two large towels once wet. And the door stop - this did a good job when door was open, but once closed left a nasty little item to stub toes on!

Very friendly, helpful staff. The room was comfortable, and the breakfast very good.

The hotel is not disabled-friendly, though that is the nature of the building and there’s nothing they can do to remedy that fact. There are many stairs, from the car park to the house and along the ground floor corridor. The staff helped me with my luggage etc, so I could manage. It won’t put me off staying again, but I think it should be made clear.

Lovely house on the edge of town. Very clean and well cared for.

Front of house staff were a bit confused and somewhat tense. We checked out and asked to settle the bill. We were told it was paid. We had booked a long time ago and so couldn’t recall one way or another and didn’t have any extras so we left. We were then sent very curt messages re having taken the keys (we handed them in on check-out) and for payment. Turns out the wrong person was on reception. We weren’t to have known but felt as if we were. Room was lovely. Can see in clearly with curtains open. Bathroom exceptionally small to move around in. Perfectly fine but definitely one at a time!

The location at the edge of Alfriston is excellent. The building has an interesting history. The room was relatively well equipped, but had no safe or refrigerator or robes. We had a very good dinner in the restaurant one night. The breakfasts were excellent, with hot items chosen from a menu. There is a very nice outdoor terrace and and a very comfortable indoor lounge. One night we walked on a small path (marked close to the car park) to Deans Place Hotel next door for dessert and drinks, which was interesting.

The hotel makes full disclosure about this on its website, but there are a lot of stairs involved in going to the upstairs rooms.

Well-cooked breakfast with the classic option and nice pastries. The room is well decorated and very well clean with a pretty nice modern bathroom design Love the launch area, lovely to relax and have a conversation. To be such a small villages, is plenty of activities for walker and cyclist, and eating out

To be honest, was nothing a fault, the price and service provided is one of the best in the region. Perhaps they should have a dedicated bike storage room as they are so close the the South Downs Way

Comfortable bed. Spacious, modern bathroom with large walk-in shower. Large drawers/storage if staying long enough to unpack. Little porch with 2 chairs and table, nice to sit and briefly relax. Large outdoor terrace with tables for afternoon tea/drinks. Large indoor guest lounge space. Daily papers available. Lots of free parking on-site. Lots of nice walking from hotel. Close to Birling Gap and Seven Sisters.

No problem for us but be advised there are steps to get into hotel from parking lot. Though we were on the ground floor, we even had to navigate stairs up and down in our hallway! There are some rooms without extra steps so be sure to ask if you need one of those rooms.
