I love the cozy atmosphere in the old building and the helpful reception staff. It is a very friendly place.
Some of the amenities are a little worse for wear.

The location is excellent with a bus stop for buses from Islington and central London just opposite an a stop for buses into town a short distance to the left. Bus tickets are easy to manage now as they accept payment by card. There's no underground stop by the hotel - it's about 10-15 minutes away from Angel on the Northern Line but a couple of bus routes go pas the hotel, include the 73 which runs down to Oxford St. Essex Road is gentrifying and there is no shortage of cafes and shop close to the hotel. I could reach my room on the second floor which having to go upstairs. There is a platform lift available, a bit slow and ponderous but it gets you there (you just have to remember to keep the button pressed until you've arrived at your floor, When I was there (even on a Friday evening), the place was calm and quiet (don't be put off by the "Inn" in the name, it's no a pub as I initially thought (I was prepared for a noisy evening but it's calm). It's one of the few hotels in Islington where the price of a night's stay is closer to 100 than 200 pounds. I had a small single room but it was big enough for me and very clean. They don't serve breakfast at the hotel but there are plenty of places to choose from along the Essex Rd I'll probably stay there again next time I'm in the area
O There was nothing that i had any issues with,

I enjoy very much the cosy and homely atmosphere that you get from these older houses. It's in a good place, not snack dab in the hustle and bustle but not too far away from shopping, food, and entertainment, such as the amazing Garage club. I would stay here to get a taste of real London, away from tourists and manufactured image.
My main grief with hotels is usually water pressure but this time the pressure was fine though the water was a bit too hot. Maybe it's a matter of tweaking but I didn't bother this time as I was only staying the one night.

The staff were lovely, and upgraded my room for free without me even asking which was a very pleasant surprise. The location was also very convenient
There maybe needed to be more lighting options as my room felt quite dingy. I plugged the lamp in on the other side of the room for a bit more consistent light

The staff always said hello coming in and out of the building, the rooms themselves were quaint and stocked perfectly for the length of our stay. The bed was comfy, it came with a fan in the room which Is a big plus for me.
It's such a small detail but the cold water pressure was very poor, as someone who enjoys cold showers and my partner getting a glass of water from the tap it takes quite a while. Also the main light barley lit up the room but it didn't really bother us too much.

Staff was always friendly. Night clerk saved the day when I discovered I had left my phone charger at the office and set me up with a loaner. WiFi was good enough for zoom calls. Bed was super comfy. Kettle in the room meant I could make my own aeropress coffee.
I read a lot of negative reviews of this place. I don't think the reviewers had much experience of London hotels in this price range. This was clean, safe, friendly, and we'll situated. The room was not much bigger than the bed, but I don't expect much more for this price in this location. I will happily stay here again.

ignore the bad reviews…. yes it’s not the ritz… but you’re not paying for the ritz. for what I paid I was incredibly pleased, I would stay again and would recommend to others looking for a budget stay in London. -the staff were friendly -bed super comfy -telly in room -fresh towels provided -relatively close to underground and overground -lots of local shops (incl. Sainsbury’s and Tesco), bars and takeaways -next door to a taxi company
this didn’t affect my stay in anyway - but to ensure an honest review - carpets in Hallways would benefit from replacing as stained

My Mum and Brother had stayed here in February 2017 and it was exactly like I remembered it. Friendly, easygoing staff, very available, rooms are clean and essential and the location is great. I checked in at midnight and they were very flexible about it, they don't make you pay to leave your luggage after check out time- which is at 12, very convenient! They were a warm and safe space to retire to after a bad Booking.com experience, and not trying to rip you off and take your money for any additional service, as I fell people often do in London. I will definitely be back! Grazie
