July 2024

We stayed at The Crown for 2 nights in July whilst we were in London for a short break. The Crown was absolutely perfect for us. From the friendly, warm greeting from Natalie on the day we arrived to the day we departed we couldn’t find fault with anything. We enjoyed atmosphere of a pub that obviously enjoys a good ‘local’ trade while managing to provide a good service for its’ guests. The rooms are clean and comfortable with everything you need provided or available on request. The added bonus of a fan was a real plus as the nights were still warm. We were warned about noise from the bar but it didn’t actually disturb us at all and the traffic noise is at a level you would expect in a busy area of London. We thoroughly enjoyed the diversity of the area. Hackney has undergone a resurgence since the days when I was a student nurse here but it has still retained its East End charm and character. There are a couple of excellent cafes close by and if we had had more time we would have happily explored further. Narrow Kitchen and Paelette are both deservedly well reviewed, especially for breakfast/brunch. Transport to central London is fast and easy, even late at night, via tube and overground rail. The Crown is very good value for money and we will definitely stay again when we return to London.

There wasn’t anything not to like!

The location was great only a short walk from the tube station. Also ideally placed with local shops and a park. The room was nicely decorated and the terrace was so lovely to sit out on in the sun whilst enjoying a drink, the flowers on the terrace were very beautiful. The lady that checked us in was very welcoming and explained how to get in after hours etc very well. Very happy that there were toiletries provided in the room as we were only staying for one night so didn’t want to have to bring everything with us. The room felt very secure with all of the locked doors to access.

It would be nice if there was a separate check in area so you aren’t being watched by everyone in the pub. One of the towels in our room had a dirt mark/stain so I had to use a hand towel for a shower instead. The shower drain must also be blocked so you can only have a short shower without it overflowing. There was a very strong cigarette smell coming home and in the morning as there was a window open above the beer garden in the pub. Overall I wouldn’t say any of these things ruined our stay and I would absolutely book to stay here again.

Friendly welcome by the staff in the pub. Room was very clean with nicely made up bed and towels. The decor was smart. The bed was extremely comfortable. Despite being on a main road in Hackney, above a pub, the room was quiet and we slept very well. Disappointed that we didn’t get the clawfooted bathtub that’s in the promotional pictures on this site, nor the little rooftop terrace. Never believe the advertising!

The shower was extremely temperamental and water flow would just stop completely. Pressure was low even when working making the shower experience quite frustrating. Better tea and coffee facilities would be nice please.

Great location in the heart of Hackney. Room was comfortable and clean. The staff was very helpful, cheerful and friendly.

The smell of cigarette smoke at night from the pub directly below. The smell wasn't intense but I have an acute sensitivity. Once the pub closed the smell lessened. Perhaps having a room on a higher level would have made the smell less impacting . Also, the guesthouse ensuring that the window over the smoking area that connects to the guesthouse is closed during pub hours might help control the movement of smoke into the guesthouse.

In all honesty, I’ve stayed in five star hotels that weren’t as good as this place! A warm welcome, incredibly comfortable bed, room and en-suite spotlessly clean and the pub downstairs is fantastic. Also one of the very few places to find a decent pint of Guinness in London. The manager and her staff go above and beyond and it shows. Walk in as a stranger, leave as friends. (Breakfast wasn’t included but there’s a lovely old fashioned breakfast cafe next door with a huge menu, so all good.) We had a five star perfect stay and will definitely be return customers for years to come, for sure.

I would definitely recommend this guest house and book it again for my next trip to London. The hosts are so incredibly nice, sweet, warm and helpful, no matter what. It is located directly above a pub and can be entered either through the pub or the courtyard. In either case, you are greeted warmly by the guests present. The atmosphere is very relaxed, sociable and almost family-like. I had an overall very large and nice room with a private balcony, which was especially nice in the evenings. It was also very clean. I felt very comfortable in Hackney. It is a colourful, cool, hip and cultural neighbourhood. There are also many shopping opportunities, including market stalls with fresh fruit and vegetables every day, a park and nice cafés and restaurants are also around the corner. The nearest tube station is a 3-minute walk away, and in a few stops you are already in Stratford, from where you have a direct connection to Stansted Airport. I will miss my time there and am already thinking back to the people. All the best!

I stayed only one night and everything was nice. The room was clean and cozy. The lady was helpful (maybe her English was a bit too fast for not native speakers). I liked the pub downstairs, there was a nice atmosphere. Also the hotel is in a big street with many shops such a groceries, banks, etc.

They don't have adapters as people used to never return them. You can get one at a convenient shop downstairs for 3,50£. The hotel is not in the city center, but there's a tube line nearbt (I was in London not to visit London so it was ok for me)

Loved the beds & bedding very comfortable, I loved that the rooms came with working fans as the room was quite hot so that was brilliant. Lovely size rooms & bathrooms ( 4 & 7 ) loved that you also provided hairdryers & extra heaters ( if needed ) lovely decor & loving the glass bottled water nice touch!!!

The only issue we had was in room 4 with the slight step into the bathroom we all trip up it as was no warning that is was there. This is a major trip hazard & there should be some warning or bright tape let you know that the floor is uneven. And it would of been nice if a continental breakfast of some sort was included. Apart from that everything was great.

Loved the room, my 11 yr old & myself stayed in room 7. Very cosy, nice & clean, and a bed to die for very comfortable & great quality bedding to go with it! Perfect amount of furniture which was also lovely. Also loved that it had a fan in the room as the room was quite hot and yes we could open the window ( which was also great ) but due to it being very windy the open window rattled the doors so we used the fan which my son loved as he is autistic & sleeps with a fan on anyway so that was brilliant. Great night sleep for both my son & I. Would definitely use again & recommend. Also free WiFi is fantastic a must if you have an autistic child, & had no problems activating it. Definitely 10/10 for us! 😊

My friend stayed in room 4. She loved the room, bed & facilities ect but kept tripping up when going to the bathroom as it has a sort of small step. Maybe you could have a mind the step sign or a fluorescent bit of tape on the step???? Also the drain in the shower in room 4 was backing up with water. It would have of been nice if there was a continental breakfast available. Very minor issues but otherwise great!

The Crown is in an excellent location, lose to transport links. The premises is a hive of activity in the evening, great atmosphere in the Bar, everyone having a good time. The noise doesn't travel up to the rooms. Enjoyed the access from the room to outside balcony, overlooking Hackney. I would have liked to have spent a little more time enjoying the Bar Atmosphere, but just couldn't find the time. If you are visiting London I would recommend this property.

Coffee making facility would benefit from an upgrade.
