This hostel has been one of the most homely ones I have ever stayed at! There was something about the atmosphere in this place that added to the cosy common areas in which someone would always be hanging out. Central Backpackers offered free tea and coffee, the kitchen was fully equipped for proper cooking, bathrooms and bedrooms clean and tidy. Also the free luggage storage was both convenient and helpful. The staff was friendly and welcoming at all times and tiny things like free sanitory articles or ear plugs as well as the cleaning of bathrooms after every shower showed great care taking of guests. I only wish I could have stayed longer!
My mattress was a little worn out and my room turned to the big street which made an awful lot of noice (but free ear plugs!). Also, the lockers in the room were fairly small.

The staff I met at this hostel are wonderful--super friendly, efficient, helpful and really work hard to make sure everyone is taken care of right away and has a nice stay. I used to run a hostel and I was really impressed with the staff and their work ethic. The hostel facilities are good and the location is excellent but even though the hostel is lacking in certain comforts the staff more than make up for any minor negatives. I highly recommend this hostel for a fun and comfortable stay close to everything you need.
The beds are standard bunk metal so not upgraded to more private modern hostel beds but they are quiet and pretty comfortable with good outlets and lights and the nice bedding and two pillows make up for the old style metal. There are plenty of showers but few sinks for numerous rooms but it's an older building so I imagine it's tough to fit more and you can see where they have. The shower pressure is pretty low but nice to have individual bathrooms rather than stall showers.

Staffs are friendly, in town centre (good location), great facilities (kitchen, common area) and bathrooms are clean. Most importantly, perfect bed spacings (I get to sit up in my bed!), and there is a power socket by my bed to charge my phone when using it (yes, I definitely had that experience when I had to go charge my phone in the other side of the room). Towels are provided and changed daily. Everything is basically perfect.
Minor issue is that the reception and kitchen is closed by 11pm (or 10:30pm, around that time..please clarify me for others' reference). It may be a little inconvenient as I showered late and wasn't able to borrow a hairdryer from the reception. It also seems that the heater and some electricity will also be switched off by 11pm since I noticed that the Hand dryer doesn't work at that time. Also, either I didn't know how to adjust the warm water in the shower or the heater also gets switched off at 11pm. But these are just minor issues to me as I just needed to manage my time a little better unless I finished my day quite late.

I stay in hostels a lot. A LOT. Oftentimes, you've paid £30+ for a bed in a dorm room, and that price makes absolutely no sense. The room isn't great, the bed might be comfy but it equally might not; you have to pay extra for everything. This place was great! Fantastic location, lovely room, incredibly comfy beds, staff were super friendly (except the Kiwi (I think?) girl, she let the side down sadly. Nice enough but didn't really seem to want to be there. Aside from her, everything 10/10! Super cute kitchen, tv room, clean bathrooms - and enough of them! - and towel hire no extra cost! I even got a tour of the place when I checked in, which was a lovely touch. I'll definitely be staying here any time I'm in Oxford.
Probably the only issue is weirdly the room has like that new car smell. You knew the smell I mean. It was very clean and comfortable, room quality absolutely not in question one bit! But that it smelled like new car smell wasn't great, that smell makes me feel sick. So maybe some air freshener or incense or something??

The location was great, you will be in the city centre within a couple minutes of walking. The facilities are good and the hostel is very clean. The beds were also pretty good and they give you two pillows instead of one, which was such a blessing! Besides all these regular things, the hostel also has a great vibe and is perfect for meeting new people. The staff were so sweet and welcoming and I had such a good time with them! I’ve been travelling around the uk for some time now and I can confidently say this was one of the best hostels I’ve been to, and I would definitely come back again.
Nothing it was great!

I t was very clean, lovely to see that the showers were cleaned after every use and the staff were lovely. The common room and tv room as well as the terrace were a lovely place to hangout and get to know others. I was in an 8 bed dorm with mainly volunteers from the hostel which had its ups and down but overall very comfortable.
As I mentioned being in a dorm with majority of volunteers from the hostel I didn't really get to meet many new people which is something i rely on ebing a solo traveller, but overall it was good none the less. Being right next to the club was difficult as having to wear earplugs every night caused me do develop an ear infection unfortunately :(

The staff was welcoming, professional and efficient. Their energy was positive and they seemed happy. The hostel is convenient to the train station and to most of the various colleges. I was welcomed, got on well with the two others in the shared room, and had a good experience.
It is not an issue for me, but for anyone unable to maneuver bags up flights of stairs, or anyone with mobility issues, I recommend alternative lodging.

The place is run by a group of friendly young people who partly live there, so they take care of the place as if it was their own. There is always someone available. Free coffee or tea is brewing, the kitchen is fully equipped, and if you need, you get clean towels. The showers are cleaned after every use, and the entire place is kept tidy. The dorms are secured with entry based on magnetic cards, and the lockers are good-sized. The location is great, only 5-10 minutes walk from the old town, central bus station, and train station.
The place is near a music bar which had wicked loud "entertainment" 2 out of 3 nights. My room was on the same side as this establishment. There is not much you can do about it, I guess, especially during the summer vacation time, although I was surprised that it didn't cease after midnight. Bummer.

Staff are very friendly and helpful - shoutout to Lisa, Ferrericho, Red and Nathan! Beds are comfy, lockers are big and rooms are clean. Everything works and functions well! The bed light, the chargers, the kitchen facilities, the bathrooms. The showers are clean and not clogged! Even provided a soap and shampoo dispenser. Everything, from the kitchen, to the common room, to the bathrooms is clean and modern. Location is also great- walking distance from the train station and centre. Also a very social and well-organised hostel with weekly pub quiz nights and other social events.

I loved everything about this place, and I was made to feel welcome from the moment I arrived until the moment I left. It is very central and near to all the tourist and entertainment attractions in the city. I also like the fact that the hostel is nice, calm and socialable, and not a 'party' hostel. The staff are genuniely fantastic and friendly and so were the fellow guests who socialable and fun-going and being respectable as well to each other.
There is nothing not to like about Central Backpackers in Oxford. It genuinely is one of the best hostels I've ever stayed at.
