The staff were friendly and very helpful with taxis. The room was clean and comfortable. The Black Boy is an easy bus ride from the centre of Oxford from the bus stop on the main road costing just £2. Don’t miss the Malmaison Hotel converted prison where you can see what the cells were like. Open to the public without staying at the hotel (as in the photo)

Breakfast was good with lots of choice but there could have been a ‘and’ for yogurt / fruit / granola plus English breakfast / eggs etc rather than an ‘or’. Fresh orange juice would also have been good

When we arrived it was very busy in the restaurant but the staff still booked a taxi (and recommended the bus to return) into Oxford which was a great help. The room was a great size and lovely and warm after the cold weather. The bed was very comfy and the room had everything we needed. The bathroom was large and the shower was one of the best we've ever used at a hotel. We only stayed one night and ate in the restaurant. The bar is very comfy and cosy with an open fire. The restaurant was brilliant with great choices to eat. We both had 3 courses as we were celebrating. The food was served quickly and was all very tasty. There was also a great selection of wine and drinks at the bar. We'd told them that I was celebrating ending my chemotherapy treatment and they knocked the price of a bottle of wine off the bill which was a lovely touch and really made me feel special. Breakfast was also very good. Lots of choice and cooked fresh, to order. All of the staff that we came into contact with were welcoming and helpful. We will definitely return.

Everything was perfect.

The Black Boy is located in a very quaint residential street. There are bus stops and shops and restaurants about a five-minutes' walk away. The Airline shuttle stops at Headington Shops bus stop too. The rooms were renovated in 2019. The bed was comfy and the bathroom eas very modern and clean. They restock mineral water, coffee, milk, tea and cookies every day. We took the bus into town and back and all around Oxford and even to Woodstock. The bus drivers are very helpful and buses come quite often. We never waited more than 5 minutes. At breakfast there's a choice of 5 delicious dishes (including full English!), hot beverages and orange juice. Everything we had was fantastic. The staff is really friendly and helpful. We'd love to stay at the Black Boy again!

We liked that The Black Boy was in a residential area, with a shirt bus ride into Oxford. We prefer somewhere quieter than a busy city. The Staff were great. Both friendly & helpful. We dined in the restaurant one night & the food was delicious. The rooms are clean & comfy with a good shower.

We would have preferred a buffet style breakfast. It is difficult to chose from a menu when you don't know portion sizes. Breakfast portions are large & it was good.

All very tasteful. Nice atmosphere pub below. Not rowdy during the weekday. Food was excellent. Extremely well presented and flavored and locally sourced. Room was clean and everything that you could possibly want. From own nespresso machines. Super clean and comfortable bed. Quiet nights sleep. Organic and responsibly sourced shampoos etc

Old style house. So all room very close together and a warren of old stairs and ahllways unsuitable for disabled. Old Chittle single pane windows could be chiller in winter.Simple forecourt parking. But I'm nit picking as all that palls to an excellent stay

Wow! I wish I was a travel blogger so I could tell everyone about The Black Boy. It is a wonderful place to stay or just visit for lunch. Gorgeous decor and amazing, friendly staff. A little bit outside of Oxford, but we managed to walk there and back or less than £10 to taxi to the station. We arrived before 2 so had a lunch special, which was 2 courses with a glass of wine for £16. The food was phenomenal, high quality, and worth more than the price advertised. The bedroom was lovely, tea/coffee, biscuits and bottled water. All toiletries were provided, and the shower was good. The best part was the bed, so comfy!! We would definitely stay again and have recommended to all our friends.

The pub is beautiful, warm and welcoming. The staff were outstanding - really friendly and helpful. The room was lovely, with thoughtful personal touches that really make it unique (the bottle of vodka and shot glasses on such a cold day was appreciated). The location is perfect only a 5 minute cab ride to Oxford which makes the option of paying 100% more per night to stay in Central Oxford at a comparable hotel (not including parking or breakfast), absurd. I had dinner in the restaurant...wow! The pork was delicious. I then had the the Eggs Royale for breakfast.... oh my, the Scottish Salmon was out of this world and the hollandaise sauce was so good, it took all my strength not to lick the plate.

Nothing. The only thing I can mention is the sink in the bathroom was slow to drain. Not a complaint by any stretch of the imagination, merely something to put in this box.

Lovely pub in a very convenient location for our needs. It is located in a small village on the fringe of Oxford but with good bus links into town or even London via the Oxford Tube. Headington is a 6 minute walk where you can find lots of amenities. We stayed in a double room above the dining room and couldn't hear anything from the pub when we retired. Room was well furnished and the mattress/pillows were very comfortable. Had dinner in the pub, food was very good indeed and they had an offer on Berry Bros & Rudd Crémant de Limoux Brut for less than £23. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of tasty options on the menu. Friendly attentive staff too.

Ensuite could probably do with a deep clean.

The Black Boy is an absolutely lovely and charming hotel located about 20 minutes from the heart of Oxford. As first time UK travelers we had to guess on the location and it turned out to be perfect. A short drive away is the incredible Blenheim Palace which should not be missed under any circumstances. The town of Headington is quite beautiful. Free parking right out front was a real plus as well. The Black Boy is a real winner!

Great location, easy to find, close to ring road yet looks like a pretty village, off street parking, easy to get into city centre by bus. Great local amenities, shops and cafes 5 minutes walk away. Lovely, light, spacious room, very clean and comfortable with quality toiletries and coffee pod machine. Staff were very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. The breakfast was delicious, good selection. Didn't eat dinner there but the food looked very good. The pub and room had a very attractive interior and the beer garden at the back is a green oasis. Very happy and would stay again.
