The size of the bath was brilliant, great for a relaxing bath together. It was very, very clean, and we were given plenty of tea/coffee/biscuits, towels, everything. The staff are really friendly and very helpful. The bed was really comfortable, and the sofa was great for a quiet reading session, while my partner had to work a couple of hours in the morning. The breakfast was almost perfect! The garden was absolutely stunning too, we were sceptical about the location on the main road, but the room was facing the garden so it was very peaceful.

The room was very stuffy but you do get given a fan, and I am really sorry, but we did have it on all the time and opened the window quite high to get some cool air into the room. The breakfast was almost perfect. It was just the bacon was a little too cooked, so it was very salty. Apart from that, these are our only complaints and if we ever decide to visit the area again, we will definitely stay here!

Check-in was pleasant and friendly. A young man showed us to our room and was professional and friendly. Our room was clean and fresh. It was very warm but it was a very hot day and a fan was provided. Breakfast was very nice. Hot, fresh and well presented. We ate in the restaurant which was pleasant. Nice garden to sit in for drinks.

Dinner in the restaurant was hot, tasted very nice - would have liked a bit more on the plate. Not enough veg. In our bathroom we had a shower over the bath - very slippy bath surface. Could do with a bath mat.

Excellent location and a good base for trips further afield. The staff are lovely, very friendly and helpful, and the rooms spotlessly clean - we had a ground floor room with a garden view which was nice. The breakfasts were included in the price, with a good choice, we opted for the full Yorkshire breakfast each morning of our stay which kept us going throughout the day! We also ate in the hotel 3 evenings of our stay and each time the food, presentation and service were first class and full value for money... We would not hesitate staying here again in the future. Oh, and the garden at the back of the hotel is lovely, a tranquil place to have a drink in the evening!

To me the hotel had a "classic" quality about it. I loved the patio the garden it was so green, pretty and quiet. The public rooms where you could order a drink was nice. The dining room, the size of it, and the staff was excellent. The breakfast was good size and delicious. My room spacious, and loved the bath tub after a long day of hiking. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend the Forest and Vale.

I was slightly disappointed by the Roast Pork dinner. I guest I was expecting a thicker piece of pork and to me it was too thin. But, perhaps this is the way most prefer in England.

Location is excellent and this hotel is maintained to impressive standards. Offered a discounted upgrade to a superior room and enjoyed a super comfortable king sized bed. Bathroom had underfloor heating.

I think the hotel can be noisy during an event, which we were warned about by the hotel management. It didn’t happen to us, but a business friend experienced this. Would only affect early-night sleepers.

The property was in a great location which made it easy to use public transport to travel to York, Scarborough and Whitby. The rooms were comfortable and the staff fantastic. Breakfast was the best I’d had in a long time. All produce locally sourced. Great also to have free parking on site.

I booked this executive TWIN room for my best friends 60th birthday present from me, we were so disappointment when we were shown to our room it was looked like a double bed in the middle of the room,the double base was just unhooked with two separate mattresses but one headboard, we expected the beds to totally separate I just Might as well booked a double bed!!!! We push the beds apart as much as we could which we about 3inch as there wasn't any room. As for the room it was nice but wouldn't call it an executive one.

Very friendly staff, lovely relaxing bar area. Cooked breakfast was very good.

The shower in our room was extremely small, an average sized man would find it impossible to have a shower. The choice of fruit, cereal, yogurt, bread etc was quite poor if you didn’t want cooked breakfast.

Friendly and very helpful staff, especially Suzanne and Harri Have mobility issues and the ground floor rooms were all booked, but the hotel quickly sorted out an upgraded room on the first floor , with more gentle to climb stairs. Location was great. Easy walking distance of the town centre. All the staff were lovely and friendly. Good breakfast with plenty of choice, all cooked to order.

Unfortunately with it being an old building, alot of the floorboards are a bit creaky. We had someone in the room above who was an early riser (5am) on the 2 nights we stayed who just seemed to walk from one end the room to the other constantly.
