Set in a beautiful old building very close to the Quayside, charmingly presented with a mix of old and new internally. Our room was spacious, cool and well appointed.

It was obvious that the food service was under pressure at both dinner and breakfast. The staff were doing well, and we spotted the duty manager getting stuck in to help her team, but it was slow- we saw one table with children complain that they hadn't been served main courses after 90 minutes. In our room, one of the bedside lights was not working. We informed reception but they didn't repair it or offer a replacement during our stay.

• comfortable traditional hotel with some contemporary quirky details • good breakfast choices, including vegetarian and vegan options • superb staff member at breakfast (James) who was super helpful and kept a selection of my favourite teabags for me • excellent location, close to the key for boat trips, and in the middle of the old town...that was rescued from the bombing in the Second World War

• possibly too many stairs for some people, so be careful which room you book, as it was 45 stairs from breakfast to my bedroom! This was good for me and gave me more exercise so I was okay.

Everything about this Hotel, if you don't include the parking. is above 5 star or at least equal to the best 5 star establishments in the UK and Europe. The food is clearly prepared by someone who knows their job and the rooms are just great. You can't find a fault you even get L'Occitane products in the bathroom. Wardrobes are lit inside and have plenty of space. the TV is big. the lighting great, the bed is very comfortable and the tea and coffee making set up is just what you need.

Parking is limited so if you get there late you may find yourself parking in the public car park which is basically just to the rear of the Hotel so not that bad if you're in a car.

We had an initial problem with room allocated but this was soon resolved and we had a lovely stay with our little dog. HDV honestly have the best beds and linen along with homely quirky wonderful rooms with little luxuries like Lindt chocolates and L’Occitaine toiletries. Also they do the best breakfasts offering a buffet choice along with cooked items delivered to your table once ordered. Nice outdoor area. lovely little wine cellar too! Great location right near lots of bars and restaurants and the old town, had some lovely fish and chips in the Quayside too! Feeling refreshed - Thank you!

Very comfortable relaxing hotel, we did have the best room so it was fabulous! So much space and comfortable with pretty much everything you could possibility want provided. The food and service was excellent and an interesting choice of wine. Reception staff and housekeeping were tops. Reception was also helpful, especially with parking which is limited but off street and reasonable secure with CCTV as well. The location by the quay is great. It is a smart area and ideal to explore the environs. Highly recomend.

Nothing really, Just to mention breakfast is an almost £40 add on and we don’t go for a big breakfast. There is a continental for a bit less. If you just want a bit of toast and some cereal,, there are many places near by, one very good one 3 minutes walk towards the quay. We did use the hotel a couple of times and it was very good.

A warm welcome on arrival, the suite was superb, the living room roletop bath and drench shower fabulous. Have to say, the super kingsize bed was easily the most comfortable hotel bed i have ever laid on. ..the perfectly proportioned room had 2 back to back TV's serving the bed and lounge area. All in all, fabulous accomodation at an honest rate. The bistro restaurant was excellent. Uncomplicated and uncluttered menu for evening dining - also serving a perfectly cooked, hearty full English breakfast. With all of the above mentioned, it has to be said that the key to this establishment being a notch above is its staff. All, without exception, were highly professional, helpful, cheery, and great fun. A huge thank you to all the staff for makig our stay so wonderful, see yoou guys again soon. Fraser and Aly

N/A - We really found nothing to complain about.

A really marvellous group of staff who cannot do enough for you. They are friendly, helpful and efficient. Fresh clean immaculate linen and towels daily. Bottled water provided daily. The air con was an added bonus due to the heatwave. There is a good choice for breakfast and it is freshly cooked to order. We had breakfast in the garden and drinks were served there in the evening. There are only 10 hotel parking spaces which we never managed to get but there is a huge car park at the back of the hotel with a passage way round to the hotel.

The room was quite small. We were situated in Mill house which over looked the street outside, which was fine except for the pub up the road which had bands performing and the music was very loud. Also rowdy people walking down the street late at night. The hotel can obviously do nothing about this but the room being street facing made this an issue.

Really liked the room, the bath and shower facilities were great. Bar was also good. There was a wedding taking place at the hotel, so it was busy, but the music and event finished in a timely way as not to disturb us too much.

Room Service out of hours very poor in deed. We arrived back at our room about 10'ish, and fancied some snacks, looked at the room service menu, they had the most random things like Coq au vin or similar, no vegan options and you couldn't even order something as simple as a bowl of chips, crisps or other simple snacks, just very odd and surprising.

nice professional staff, immaculate room and all of hotel, good sized room, property close to harbour, very good breakfast with lots of choices , quiet and peaceful

had to park outside on double yellow lines to unload luggage but it was a quiet side street, limited parking at hotel but ok car park nearby, building is a strange maize with lots of stairs. This is not a problem once you got your bearings. Not a problem for us.

All staff were friendly and helpful. We had a problem with an iron and they replaced to the room within minutes then we realised the plug had tripped and again the staff were on attendance within minutes and gave us drinks at dinner to say sorry.

We could here upstairs when in our room very clearly, but it’s an old building so you do have to make allowances
