This venue is exceptional in every way. From the stunning garden, amazing views, excellent breakfast and fantastic rooms we cannot recommend this venue highly enough. We stayed in The Annexe which has more in common with a 5* hotel than a bed and breakfast with mini fridge, microwave and a digital thermostat shower. The sliding patio doors take you out to your own private area of garden and decking commanding a stunning view of fields for as far as the eye can see The host was exceptionally accommodating and friendly The Smithy is a short drive from Hay-on--Wye

The Smithy is a gorgeous B&B just 10 mins drive from Hay-on-Wye. My husband and I stayed there for the annual Hay Festival and it was a real blessing to have a home away from home. Christine & Chris were the perfect hosts - friendly, kind and welcoming. They had fantastic suggestions for local restaurants, countryside walks, and activities. Apart from our wonderful hosts, the biggest highlights for me were the stunning garden, flourishing with plants and flowers, and with a spectacular view of the rolling hills that typify the area, and the incredible breakfasts! Our stay at The Smithy exceeded all expectations. We will certainly be back and cannot recommend it enough

The Smithy was everything we had hoped for in a beautiful Herefordshire countryside retreat. Our tastefully decorated room with a balcony had sweeping views and was perfectly appointed. The hosts, Chris and Christine could not have been more delightful and accomodating and the breakfast, which came in a variety of choices, was delicious. All of this plus a stroll through their perfect english country garden each evening! Absolutely no hesitations in giving this property our highest recommendation.

Situated in stunning countryside with the sound of tranquil birdsong and bleating of sheep, this B&B is a short drive out of Hay-on-Wye and run by gracious hosts Chris & Christine. You are assured of a generous breakfast with fruit and cereal and yoghurt to start and plenty of hot food options. The eggs come fresh from their flock of chickens in the field outside. Delicious! The bedroom was immaculate yet cosy with French windows giving onto a little balcony overlooking the garden and field. The ensuite bathroom was furnished with a roll-top bath and separate shower. We loved our stay at the Smithy and hope to return.

A lovely warm room and a good bed. The breakfast was delicious and varied, using local produce - it was also ample! Chris was very welcoming and helpful - we arrived on a Monday (not an easy day to find somewhere to eat out) and he gave us the information we needed to find an evening meal locally - which was very good.

Although there was an ensuite lavatory and small basin in the room itself, the main shower room etc was down the corridor - albeit for our own exclusive use. The drive for parking was a bit tricky, being on a slope off the main road. But a convex mirror helped a lot with seeing traffic to get out again.

A very comfortable and stylish room with a lovely freestanding bath, mini fridge and lots of little touches. The view was also gorgeous looking out over peaceful fields. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming without being overbearing at all. Finally - the breakfast! How fantastic to have such a choice and it was superb - great, locally sourced food. The Smithy is incredible value for money and I would certainly recommend to anyone wanting to stay locally to Hay on Wye.

No faults at all! Everything was perfect for our needs.

The breakfasts were amazing - marvellous choice, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Table settings, crockery, cutlery etc exceptionally high quality. Chris and Christine were perfect hosts - friendly, efficient and very helpful in terms of local knowledge. They made us feel very welcome from the outset. The view from our room was wonderful - excellent location.

We really enjoyed our stay but we did miss having storage space in our room for our clothes. There was a little hanging space in an alcove but other than that we were living out of our suitcase which was a nuisance. A small chest of drawers where the drinks table was would have been a better use of the available space. The only other problem was a hot tap which had virtually no pressure.

Very comfortable and clean B and B. Cosy room, lovely garden, excellent breakfast - one of the best I’ve had, with wide choice. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Very convenient for Hay on Wye and other local attractions. Recommended.

Scary getting from the drive to the road as on a blind corner. Luckily my sister was able to guide me out. Nothing the owners can do, but worth knowing if you’re not a confident driver. Did not spoil our stay though.

Chris and Christine were polite and friendly from the moment we checked in until the moment we checked out. Our room exceeded expectations and the view from the balcony was incredible, especially watching the sunrise. The room has everything we needed. Breakfast was amazing, we had the full English and we both struggled to finished it! Chris and Christine were easy to talk to regarding places to go nearby, as well as just general chit chat about the area, our trip, and their experiences! Cannot fault the stay at all.

Chris and his partner were great hosts and really looked after us. Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice and big portions. The room was spacious, clean and had everything you needed.

Would have been nice to have an earlier check in without the £40 charge as 5pm is quite late or a later check out so we could have got to spend more time in the room and got to enjoy the patio more.
