The hotel was beautiful, the staff attentive and very friendly, the walk up the canal path to the Kitch was lovely the next day also. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, the linen and towels were super quality and in general we were nice and cosy in all parts of the hotel on a dreadful night weather wise. We would definitely stay in the hotel again but we would go elsewhere to eat.
The evening meal. I'm afraid it rather spoiled the event we were celebrating. We had rump steak which was tough. I couldn't finish mine although my partner soldiered on through his. The chef's comment was apparently that it was cooked exactly how we asked for it! Not especially the reply I would have expected. I didn't complain about the cooking ....the meat was tough. The waitress suggested maybe the cut was too thick? I regularly eat rump steak at lots of venues thank you...she did offer a complimentary pudding. However, I personally wanted to go out for a nice, romantic dinner with my partner and as we are not pudding people it didn't offer any kind of compensation for us.

I loved the decor, it was clear the hotel embraced the vintage feel of the building and modernized aspects for the comfort of guests. I loved the environmentally-friendly schemes - such as the separated waste bin in the room, the motion detecting lights, the EV charger, and the opt-out of housekeeping incentives.
The size of my room was smaller than expected, especially the bathroom. It was okay for a solo traveler, but if I had been joined by my husband we would have been on top of each other. The water pressure of the shower was excellent, but the water was not very warm. The wifi was very poor - it was difficult to connect to and the speeds were low.

The Stonehouse Hotel was a sight for sore eyes, (a pleasant surprise) after walking 5 1/2 hours on the Costwold Way. We loved the hotel, the grounds and our room. We also found the staff, specifically the young man checking us in (sorry didn't catch his name), a waitress named Asuka, and the bartender Yaughtski. Hopefully we spelled that right. Lol. Yaughtski without a doubt made our stay welcoming and fun.
We had a situation in the dining room. We arrived 10 minutes before our reservation at 7:00 pm and were turned away. We went back 10 minutes later and were ignored for some time. We left, went to the bar where Yaughtski took care of us. We believe the dining room was simply understaffed. We overheard Asuka being sent home, but she actually should have stayed to help the one woman show in the dining room.

Good well appointed room Breakfast generous coming and going was unhindered. Very pleasant canal side walk just outside the garden
On second day it was disappointing to realise, by overhearing others asking, that freshly fried eggs were available at breakfast. On the second night the people in the room above us were talking loudly and moving around way after midnight and again at 2.30am Boots being dropped on the floor etc made it very frustrating and disturbed our sleep more than once. The term "Herd of elephants moving around" would not be too much of an exaggeration. Surely if these people had arrived late or stayed up to the small hours in the bar, the staff could have implored them to have consideration for other guests.

Beautiful building. Our room was small but bathroom good size. I think we got what we paid for .
NO lighting over the hotel sign which is along a fast very dark road. Sat nav totally confused and kept sending us onto an industrial estate. We drove up and down the road at night until a taxi which also ended up on the industrial estate said to follow him as he thought he knew where the hotel entrance might be. He found the entrance but very poorly lit car parking area left me exasperated. When reporting this to reception, the response was many guests saying the same thing. When I phoned for help previously there was no reply from reception.

The main building of the hotel and the grounds are lovely. The standard rooms are off to the side in a newer extension but these were still clean and comfortable. As we were staying for two days, we were offered two drinks tokens each for the bar for agreeing not to have our towels changed which I thought was a nice touch. All the staff were really lovely and helpful.
The breakfast on day one was decent, standard things available like cereals, pastries and hot food, but they were a little slow to refill things when they ran out. On the second day some of the food like the mushrooms and eggs were undercooked.

Staff were really lovely and friendly and the breakfast was very good and lots of it. Last time I stayed with my husband we came down late and there was hardly anything left. Lesson learned lol. Gardens are beautiful although we didn’t have time to explore.
Been a few times over the years but I booked in June with my husband and we were given room 29 which looks out onto a brick wall and a cemetery. This time I came with my sister and was given the same room. Just wondering if only staying 1 night you are given this room or because I booked a bit late. Anyway I’ve been told by the lovely staff to ask for a different room next time maybe a garden facing room.

The room was in the old building and we paid a bit extra for a room with a 4 poster bed which was lovely.
Our only issue was breakfast. When we arrived in the dining room the food was very depleted with no egg, no orange juice, very little bread. It was replenished eventually but it took almost 30 mins. There was one girl doing her best to stock things up but when I complained about the delay the person did not apologies but instead tried to defend the situation saying it was restocked at 8.55 - no help when we were waiting at 9.25. They know how many people are due for breakfast and need to get it organized better. Also the drinks were very expensive - paid £27 for a double Disserano and a double malt whisky!!

Lovely hotel, nice setting and convenient for M5 and A38. Staff were friendly and helpful. Grounds and setting are nice, with lovely canal walk and gardens just behind the hotel. A good location for Severn Estuary visits, including Berkeley Castle, Slimbridge Wetlands and Purton 'Boat Graveyard' (a lovely walk along the Gloucester to Sharpness canal). Restaurant was good, hard working staff and enjoyable food.
Nothing really to fault. The shower was a small challenge, having to set the temp via the bath taps but this is only a minor point. A bit dusty around some of the furniture but again in the real world this isn't a big issue.

The hotel was lovely and reception meet and greet was truly amazing. We travel for a living and I can say the welcome we received is just as good as walking into the Hilton in Dubai. what a credit to the hotel and then the staff on the bar again made the welcome very good. It really felt home from home and time was against us with only 2 days. Restaurant manager great really nice and hand in hand with reception
Couple of slight changes to be honest room 15 going up can be slightly cold until you reach the room Restaurant prices do not reflect the quality. -Lamb shank over done mash that tasted of starch and the quality was not good for the menu price. Breakfast Slightly oily and small plates ? The food side needs attention to shift from a 6 to 8 or 9 Portion sizes especially for cheese and biscuits ? if its expensive do not offer as the slithers cut were an insult to be honest. Almost lets the whole experience down slightly. Somebody seriously looks at this and you will have one amazing place.
