Fantastic location overlooking the valley and pretty Cotswold countryside. It was also a few minutes walk from Minchinhampton Common. Lots of character inside, as it's a very Old Inn. The food was great. We ate there every evening. The Sunday roast was one of the best I've had in a long time. 7 different vege and the meat was so tender it fell apart. Very friendly, helpful staff. Small shop and cafe across the road inside the church. Free public parking opposite hotel was ideal, but did get full at certain times during the day, especially afternoons when it was used by mums collecting children from school and dog walkers heading to the common.
No wardrobe in the bedroom, just 6 hangers on coathooks. Not satisfactory for 2 people staying a few days. No full-length mirror either in the room. Black mould visible in places on bathroom pipes, bedroom ceiling corner and bathroom windows. Lot of condensation on windows in mornings also. Warm room, but ventilation required. Not sure if these problems could be adressed due to the age of the hotel.

This is a lovely Cotswolds period property located in an ideal elevated position overlooking the Woodchester valley with Nailsworth in the distance. We had premium double room with a nice chunky four poster bed and a frontal view to the valley. Very dog friendly, they even had a special menu for dogs and our pooch was spoilt by the very attentive staff. Food was excellent, especially the breakfast.
The bathroom was a bit tired with a dodgy dated shower fitting and unpredictable water temperature. The rooms are not made up each day unless you request this, which is mentioned in the room book but easily missed so it would be an idea to be told this detail at check in.

Staff friendly. Especially those serving the breakfast. The full English breakfast option came with remarkable little grease. The salmon and poached eggs my wife was also a very good choice. The Hotel is high on the hillside and is a traditional Cotswold stone building. Our room was in the annex at the back with a well laid out spacious room (but up quite a narrow staircase and had an older style bathroom with a metal bath).
Some people may feel the lack of a shower, but the bath was fine for us. If you have mobility issues the rooms upstairs in the annex may not be for you.

The best thing about this hotel is the staff. They are the most genuinely friendly people who make you feel very welcome. I had back pain after sleeping in one of the rooms and they switched us to another room without any fuss. Danny and Jennifer, in particular, made our stay absolutely wonderful. Breakfast was generally excellent and cooked to order (perfect scrambled egg) and our dog loved his breakfast! Located between Minchinhampton and Rodborough commons, it is perfect for exploring on foot. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Room 23 was very small and the bathroom was not well designed or finished. There was a shower, but not wall mounted, the toilet seat was badly fitted. The bed has very uncomfortable and the mattress needed replacement. Although this property has charm, I didn’t think it met the standard I’d expect for £120 per night. Room 20, however, was much better, suggesting you may have a very variable experience at the hotel in some rooms.

Wonderful location. Our room had a marvelous view over the valley and was nicely decorated. The bathroom was compact but the shower itself was spacious and there was plenty of hot water .There was only one chair in our room so the second person had to sit on the bed : I doubt if there was room for a 2nd chair, but then we were only in a standard double room. Television worked and we seemed to be able to get all the major channels, unlike some places we have stayed at! Breakfast was very good. We had our dog with us and were able to have breakfast, and also have dinner in the evening, in the lounge bar where she could accompany us. Very dog friendly/ dog convenient both in terms of location and facilities.
The weather.

Our room was in a lovely position with views over the common and valley - and it was a lovely surprise to find that we had a four poster room. There was plenty of space to move around and two separate chairs to sit in. The bed was clean and comfortable and we noted we could ask for more blankets or non feather bedding. Breakfast was great - both in terms of menu choice and what we actually ordered.
The toilet cistern was extremely slow to refill after flushing. There were no sockets at a user friendly height so we had to put the kettle onto the floor to use it and then there was no room on the little tea/coffee drinks table to place it once it had boiled so this was a little awkward. Similarly the floor level socket was the only place to plug in the hair dryer. This is all ok if you dont have a bad back! When we tried to watch the TV from bed one of the bedposts blocked the view of the TV - whilst this was definitely not a deal breaker I am sure that something could be done about this with a bit more thought.

Excellent dinner and breakfast and very helpful staff. We loved the rustic feel of the place.
Cot did not have a proper mattress and there was a towel instead of a sheet on it. TV remote did not turn on the TV, only the TV's side button (which should be communicated with next customer to avoid having to check and change the remote control batteries). The soap and shampoo in the bathroom were miniscule - not enough for 1 person. These are minor issues that can be addressed easily with a bit more attention.

The location was excellent, lots of walks and places of interest. The breakfast was first class, well presented, local produce and so tasty! We also had Sunday lunch which was also if an excellent standard. The staff and manager were absolutely lovely, so pleasant and nothing too much trouble.
We were very happy overall, but did feel that as an Inn the bar area was limited and not as comfortable as we would have liked, but this is a very minor point.

This is extremely good value for money. Everyone was very friendly and helpful! Room was very spacious and clean and was overlooking a valley that misted up in the morning (if you can, go for kingsize rooms as it's worth the extra)Parking just outside. We had dinner there and breakfast - highly recommmend the lamb for dinner and the hot breakfast was freshly cooked as oppose to help yourself to food that's been kept warm for the last 2 hours. (Pastries, cereal, yogurt and fruit were already waiting for us in the restaurant) The views and surroundings are really exceptional with plenty of places to explore. Thank you for having us, can't wait to visit again!

Good breakfast options, very well cooked too. The service and staff was excellent and very friendly. Great for those with dogs in tow. Good range of beers, wines and spirits. Food options were good. Fish and chips were superb (although no mushy peas!). Communal areas were quite pleasant. Great for walking (if you don't mind hills). I did like the fact that the locals allowed cows and indeed bulls to roam freely around the village. Literally you could walk out of the door into a throng of cattle (watch out for droppings!)
May have just been a one off but wife ordered Sirloin steak medium to well done. Very strange offering of piece of meat that was probably steak, but appeared to be boiled or microwaved? She returned the meal and just went for dessert. The location isn't the most accessible and you are a bit of a captive audience as there is only one other establishment in the village serving food which wasn't to our taste. It is possible to get into Stroud if you drive but I wasn't aware of anywhere else within walking distance. Room was comfortable enough but the decor and furnishings were quite dated.
