Really friendly check in and restaurant staff. Comfortable large room with seating area and big bathroom. Good choice of food in the restaurant... i had the gammon and sticky toffee pudding which was delicious plus Hook Norton beer. I had to leave before 6am to travel into London so was going to miss the breakfast service. I mentioned this to the evening team who immediately prepared a few cheese and ham croissant in a take away box so I wouldn't waste away in the morning.... Recommended

I'm being very picky... as I would definitely stay again with my wife...so these are more observations rather than dislikes.. Lots of stairs and different levels so difficult for elderly guests but they do have courtyard rooms. WiFi wasn't the strongest in room 7 which also suffered with a bit of wind making a rattling noise somewhere above....

Room 2 was very spacious, served by 3 radiators under my control Bathroom was a generous size with plenty of space for toiletries (so often not the case!). Dinner (not included in room rate) and breakfast (included) were very good. Staff were very friendly and helpful in a quiet, low key way.

Although the room was spacious it felt a little bare - even though there were some pictures on the walls. The large bed was somewhat lumpy (felt like a spring?) on one side (nearest the window). Not a problem for me as I moved to the other side. Not an option for couples.

Our dog friendly room had been redecorated & was really clean, comfy & well decorated. The staff were friendly & helpful, the breakfasts were delicious (haddock & poached eggs, full English, vegi) & the village is lovely. No charge for our dog, brilliant!

We ate in the bar every time as we had our dog with us, which was okay but I think the decor could have been a bit cosier & brighter. My evening meal was nice initially & had been specially made for me within the offer, but it was too salty for me after a while (I added no salt myself).

Booked this for my parents to stay for 3 nights to attend a wedding near by. they loved everything about the place . the room is nice and comfortable. the food was really good and they kept taking pictures to send which they rarely ever do.the staff were helpful and polite. Overall they had a good time.

Getting uber service to the location requires planning ahead. Its remote and you would normally see something like no available vehicle so its good to engage the staff early for advise.

Breakfast was excellent and I am vegan and my partner has not pork products and there was quite a variety. There was no vegan option for dinner but we arrived late so didn't know we can eat then but the waitress and chef worked out a vegan option which was perfectly cooked to my liking. The building looked rustic, and posh ( I have not stayed anywhere classier before). The bed was very big and a full lounge in our room. The hand soap and shower gel were vegan which impressed me.

There was a mark on the bedding, you could tell it was washed but had stained so not inspected. But as I said they had clearly been washed and was only small, the rest was pristine. There was a bit chilly but there was a small electric heater available.

Fantastic welcome and hospitality, comfortable and unexpectedly good sized room with sofa and armchair. Tasty well priced evening meal and amazing choice for breakfast. Kim and her team went above and beyond to make our stay special. The dog has already asked if we can go back next weekend.

Decor in the bedroom and bathroom was a little dated with artex on walls - not that it really mattered, we had a lovely time in the bar.

Location was excellent, quiet, village location, not far from our ultimate destination. Front of house staff very diligent and good at communication, took trouble to oblige us. Parking easy and free. Dinner nicely done. Breakfast nicely done and attentively served.

Alarmed by very small first room we were first allocated. Staff intervened and moved us to a much better room without any request from us, phew. We would have been unhappy if we had stayed in first room. Staff said hotel was full, so we don't know how it was possible to move us. Because this was not clarified, we would be nervous about booking the hotel another time. Next time might they put us in the small room? Was that a mistake, or was the second room a premium (extra cost) room? Somewhat limited menu for dinner.

All the staff at The Cartwright were very friendly and helpful, Parking was very easy when we arrived at 4.00pm, but I imagine it could be more difficult later if the hotel is full. Our bedroom was large and the bed comfortable. The food at our evening meal was excellent and there was plenty of choice. Breakfast was also excellent.

The bedrooms do need a 'tidy up', but the price for a room reflects this fact.

Lovely staff, very helpful and kind. Breakfast was great. We only stayed for one night so didn’t get a chance to try the rest of the food. Rooms need a bit of restoration but otherwise they were nice + cost. We stayed in room 6 which was very spacious. Location is perfect.

Lovely hotel and the staff were all really friendly, especially the older lady who could have been the owner? She was serving at breakfast and was very attentive. The food was wonderful, try the rack of ribs. We had a room in one of the outhouses. It was a cold weekend but we were warm in our outside room. Very spacious room with a seating area.

Being in one of the outhouses you heard people coming and going, plus the early deliveries. The bathroom was a bit shabby.
