The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff was immediately apparent on arrival, and the food turned out to be excellent. My son and I were on a short break - we stayed at The Slate for four days - and I had assumed that we would have to go out to local restaurants in the evening, and I had already checked what was available and not too far away, but we decided to eat in The Slate on our first evening (it had been a long drive from London!) and we were so delighted with the food that first evening that we never bothered to go elsewhere during our stay. As you can see from the photo, Oliver certainly dug in!

I can genuinely say that was nothing we did not like. We could have easily stayed longer.,

It's got a great feel of locals it has a good restaurant, we were the room next to the train track and despite this slept well both nights. Rooms beautifully decorated and liked the style of rooms.

Inconsistency during the weekend cooked breakfast was great during the week not as good. We chose this place because we've eaten at the restaurant previously and always said we would like to come back to stay. First night we checked in at 5pm told kitchen closed and then asked could we book the next night for restaurant which they did. A menu provided in rooms of restaurant went down to have our anniversary meal went to sit down to then he told Monday and Tuesday is curry night. Not once was this communicated to us

Room very well appointed and clean. every thing you could need as well as tea making facilities. Restaurant has excellent menu reasonably priced and the staff are polite, attentive and great at their jobs of looking after customers. Breakfast included in price with the room was excellent with a good choice for that early start. The Slate is in a beautiful location and is very well managed. A really enjoyable experience.

The beautiful location of the hotel and ease of road networks to get to and from. The hotel staff are well coordinated and efficient whilst being attentive at the same time. They make your stay at the Slate a very nice experience. Good friendly atmosphere. Lovely restaurant, bar and outside seating areas to sit, relax and enjoy the surrounding vistas.

I liked the situation of the place and the staff were excellent.

I had a single room which was tiny in comparison to the other double rooms. I enjoyed the food very much on my first night. ( a superb fish platter) and my first full Welsh breakfast but my second breakfast was poor in comparison. The omelette was okay but a bit dense in texture; the toast was hardly toasted at all and the tea from the urn was lukewarm at best. Why, when we had individual pots of tea on the previous morning? The sink in the bathroom was the smallest that I have ever seen and did not hold enough water or would have easily overflowed as there was no plug. The basin in the shower almost overflowed onto the floor of the bathroom as well.

The staff were so friendly and welcoming and the owners dog came to greet us too which we loved. The room was clean and had everything you could need, not to mention the bed being so comfy we slept the whole night(which is unusual for us). The full welsh breakfast was delicious too and although we didn't get dinner as-well the menu looked amazing. Overall couldn't think of anything to improve other than staying for another night or two!

Nothing to add as everything was excellent.

Breakfast was superb, fresh and quality ingredients however the latest we were able to book was 8.30 am and this on a bank holiday which was a little early for us. Not sure why breakfast cannot be served until et 9.30am The young man on breakfast duty on 8 May was exceptionally polite and helpful Bathroom spotless and modern.

Perhaps replace the pillows which were very thin. Also only toiletries was a small bottle of shower gel. Shampoo would have been helpful too We were also telephoned by staff at 8pm on day of check in to ask what time we were arriving ( had indicated already that we weren’t sure as depended on itinerary for the day) advised we were 10 mins away. Staff member was polite and friendly but told us she was waiting to finish as had worked long hours that day. Felt that we had kept her waiting, although check in is between 3 and 11 pm. Not sure what sort of reception we would have received if we’d been much later!

Staff were excellent, hotel was excellent. Rooms, Bar, Food & Prices - all excellent. Individual breakfast requests (Spicy omelettes etc), all carried out without issue. We actually googled Hotel Star Ratings during one of our breakfast discussions, as we couldn't understand why this place wasn't higher.

The single fault we could find is that some could feel the springs in the mattresses. Some of our group had back/shoulder problems etc, so this impacted sleep slightly for a number of the group.

Lovely stay at the slate. Staff were so friendly. We stayed for 1 night after visiting zip world. Our room was lovely and clean, plenty of free parking on site. I just need to mention the food though, it was INCREDIBLE! I had the lamb and my partner had the briskett. I'd go as far to say its the best meal ive had. As soon as we walked into the restaurant the room smelt delicious! It was very decently priced too. Thanks Ben & team for making our stay so welcoming. Would 100% recommend a visit.

Could hear a train (i think) from our room but it didn't keep us up.

Staff really friendly, room was spacious and food lovely - good value for money. Decorated very modern and stylish. Bedding was comfy and black out curtains. Good level of cleanliness. Proximity to zip world was brilliant for us.

For a deluxe room expected the little extras like shampoo/conditioner and a more modern TV (just had basic freeview channels not smart TV.) After a long day and stuffed from.our meal we just wanted to chill with a film but couldn't. Heating was broken so blasting out all evening and as a result we were sweaty Betty's - tried to turn the radiator down but didn't work.

The rooms were clean and tidy and well presented. The staff sprinkled Happy Birthday confetti in the room as we celebrating my husbands 40th. The breakfast was delicious.

It was disappointing to be booked in for a meal (which was pre-planned with a birthday desert) to then be told it was a limited menu consisting mainly of Curry. We then had to find somewhere last minute for a n evening meal. The ceilings were quite low (I'm 6ft 2 and had to duck a lot!) It can be quote noisy with passers by outside your room too but I suppose you get that anywhere.
