The room (family room with sea view) was lovely, well laid out, had everything we needed and more with a stunning view of the harbour walls and Tate Hill Sands. The included breakfast was delicious and there was a huge range, our evening meal was wonderful and great value for money and the staff were helpful, attentive and just downright nice. The fact it's a dog friendly property made it even better with lots of lovely friendly pooches to pet.
The only thing that might be an issue to some guests (but didn't bother us in the slightest) is the fact that the sound from the live music in the bar carried upstairs to the rooms.

The hotel was lovely, we had an evening meal there the one night and it was lovely. Breakfasts were also pretty good. The room was big, very comfortable and had everything we needed. The best thing for us was the view out of the bedroom window of the harbour and the harbour mouth, it was fantastic.
Most of the staff were great. A couple were a bit miserable. The 2nd night there happened to be the staff Christmas party so the bar closed for guests at 10 but the staff party went on till the early hours and it woke me up a few times. So that wasn't the best. We would definitely stay again, preferably without the staff party though.

The location is absolutely amazing and in the heart of Whitby. If you aren’t already in love with the town, you will be after staying here. The staff were so considerate and friendly and the pub itself had great food and drinks! The heating went off for a bit but before we had even noticed this, the landlord had arranged spare portable radiators for us to keep warm if needed. We will definitely be back!!
Parking is a bit of a faff due to having to park in public car parks. Can’t be helped and in my opinion is worth the stay anyway but something to consider, as we were surprised at how busy it was to park at all times of day!

The warm friendly greeting was a great start. Our room was clean, comfortable and well equipped with a great view across the harbour. The beds were very comfortable and gave a very good night's sleep. The breakfast was very good with a fair range of cooked and uncooked food. The meals in the evening were also very good, the lamb shank especially so. The staff were always cheerful and did everything they could not only to make you feel welcome but also to ensure that you r stay was a memorable one.
The facilities provided by the hotel were as described but it was inconvenient to have to access our room from outside, Rain and wind made this somewhat inconvenient as did the number of stairs both external and internal although the location of the building makes this inevitable. This was made quite clear before we booked and caused us no problems but could be an issue with someone of more limited ability.

The room (a small double) was lovely and equipped with everything we would need - well-stocked coffee machine and tea-making facilities iron and board, hairdryer, plug-in heater, blankets if needed, luggage holder, hanging space. The bed was extremely comfortable. There were plenty of mirrors for getting ready, lots of sockets for hairdryer, straighteners etc - and a big plus for me was the addition of a magnifying mirror for applying my makeup - an excellent extra touch. The en-suite was huge, and all towels, shower gel, hand-wash, etc. were provided (and as an added bonus, were our favourite brand and fragrance -The Scottish Fine Soaps Company, Sea Kelp). We had a key for the front door and could therefore come and go as we liked. We were out quite late, so this was great. Staff were really pleasant and helpful in giving clear instructions for our stay. Breakfast was amazing - lots of choice on the continental table - and then a cooked breakfast too! I had obviously read the listing wrong as we weren't expecting one! It was delicious. The bar had a great singer on the night we stayed (Marc Atkinson), who we stayed to enjoy for a while. We wouldn't hesitate to rebook The Duke Of York for future stays, and would certainly recommend it.
The only negative about the room was that there was no form of window covering for the ensuite. The window fronted onto the street. It was, of course, frosted - but I did send my husband outside, and he said he could see me in there with the light on. This put us off using the amazing-looking, huge shower properly, unfortunately - and instead, we used the room without the light on - just lit from the bedroom light.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay here it was fabulous! Perfect location straight out onto the beach which our dog loved! The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean, all staff friendly, helpful and efficient! We ate here both nights and the food was excellent, breakfast was included, I had eggs benedict one morning and smashed avocado the other, my husband had the full English and even our dog got her own sausage! All beautifully cooked and lovely ingredients!
Couldn't fault the place except for lack of parking but that couldn't be helped and didn't spoil the trip

The room was spacious, amazing view, very comfortable bed, good sized bathroom with nice smellies. The room had good facilities including coffee machine, ironing board and iron, hairdryer etc. Staff were absolutely lovely. So welcoming and helpful at check in, breakfast and check out. Really enjoyed the Sunday night pub quiz. Fish and chip dinner was delicious, crispy batter and really good chips. Breakfast was tasty and staff were happy to keen to accommodate everyone's preferences. The room was clean and good value for money.
There was nothing we didn't like to be honest. Only thing to bear in mind is that if you have mobility issues then you might want to check with the venue which room would be most suitable for you.

Staff were excellent; friendly and welcoming. Room clean and comfortable, with a great view over the harbour. Ensuite clean and a good size. Bed a little firmer than our own BUT comfortable never-the-less. Cooked breakfast was excellent and tasty. Rooms were above the bar area, therefore could hear some noise when customers were there, but not a problem and after hours was very quiet. Would very much consider a return if looking for hotel accommodation again in Whitby. Recommended.
There was nothing of any real significance to be unhappy about. We enjoyed our stay at the Duke of York Hotel, Whitby.

Friendly welcome on arrival, prompt organising the key and shown to our room. Clean room with great facilities, large spotless bathroom. Breakfast was always a friendly welcome, the staff remembered us on our 2nd morning. Good atmosphere in the evening when we sat in and had a drink. Superb view from our room, quiet sea front location.
Heating in the room took a while to figure out and then was very noisy, there was a plug in electric heater that we used as a back up until we got the radiator figured out. Breakfast the first morning was not that great, I ordered eggs benedict. When it arrived, the sauce was like scrambled egg and far too much of it which made it look worse. The muffin that it was on was so hard that it couldn't be cut up. I scraped off the sauce and rescued the eggs on to a new plate so I could eat something. No one checked on us to see how breakfast was and I didn't alert anyone as I didn't want to wait for a new breakfast. Breakfast the second morning was lovely, well cooked, hot and tasty.
